Guru's BRZ

Hey guys,

Just picked up my new 2015 Subaru BRZ Sport Tech in Crystal White Pearl. And I'm loving it.

The delivery at Otto's in Ottawa was professional and excellent.

I even received a welcoming present with stuff I will actually use

I don't have big plans for it to be honest, although I say that with most vehicles I have owned.

The only things I have done so far is getting rid of those dealer name license plate holders. I am still looking for nice alternatives (tips welcome)

I also swapped some light bulbs for led's

I took it for a little spin today and I am totally in love with it. This is probably one of the best (if not the best) gearbox and clutch I have ever used (and there were many)
If I compare it to other cars I have owned I would rank the driving experience between the Miata and the 911.

Tomorrow it is going for a windows tint and Krown rust proofing, a must where I live.

On the To do list is the Boomerang DRL mod and the TapTurn

welcome to the club!

I hate it. Worst choice you could have made.

Burrcold 03-25-2015 01:10 PM

...oh and welcome! :D

Guru Woodman 03-26-2015 12:16 PM

I had the window tint done yesterday and they Krowned it too.

Did did an excellent job. I hope the end result will be good too because the weather was very nasty and wet so I had to take it for a long drive so the windows got a chance to dry.

Did my first fill up yesterday. 33 MPG, not too shabby.
I am still breaking it in (I am at 600km) but I don't really baby it.

Guru Woodman 03-27-2015 01:11 PM

It is not easy to fully enjoy the car with the weather we are having here lately. I will have to be patient.

I also updated the startup screen on the nav unit. I combined an existing screen with the Nakamishi logo.

I debadged it today (not the Subaru logo's). I was surprised how easy it was to take them of. It is almost freezing outside and i just needed to apply a little heat to be able to op them off with my finger nail.
I then proceeded with cleaning it by driving through a touchless wash wash. it came out relatively clean, apart form the top of the rear bumper. My guess is that the rear wing prevents the full blast of the water.

Package from Otto's, are you from Ottawa? Where is that road?

Guru Woodman 04-05-2015 06:25 PM

No, I bought it at Otto's (great experience btw) but I live in Delta ON, about 1.5 hrs south of Ottawa.

The road is on Highway 15 near Kingston:

I received my Fog Light bulbs today from HIDPowerhouse and the difference is amazing !! Gone are those ridiculous yellow candle lights.

Installing was relatively easy. I will let the pictures do the talking:

I wish my dealership would send a welcoming gift like that, haha. they probably hated me enough after haggling with them on the final price

Fogs look great!

Today I received two packages with goodies.

One from Diode Dynamics with a Tail as Turn mod (incl. reverse light adapter) and Always-On Module.

The other package was from TapTurn.

Both turned out to be great mods. I installed everything today and I am happy with the result. Everything works as advertised. You have to tap into the green wire to get the reverse lights going and the connector is a bit flimsy, but it works.

I still had some reverse led's so I swapped the amber bulbs. The TapTurn is led compatible.
The lower reverse lights and (maybe) the front amber bulbs are still on the ToDo list.

Do the white turn signals act only as back up light or do they flash white as a turn signal ?

:iono:

Guru Woodman 04-14-2015 09:32 AM

The Tail as Turn converts your brake light into a turn signal so it deletes the function of the amber bulbs of the factory turn signal.
The kit comes with extra wiring to modify the function of the factory turn signal into backup lights. It is called a backup module. You wire it up and swap out the amber bulbs for white led's. It is explained on the Diode Dynamics website.
So only the led brake lights do the signalling.

Guru Woodman 06-16-2015 03:27 PM

I finally replaced the amber front turn signal bulbs.
I bought them at HID Powerhouse and I couldn't be happier with their service, fast shipping and price. I purchased the Lumiere CREE Amber Leds Stage 3

The results are more spectacular then I can capture with pictures.
Gone is the orange glow you get in the headlight with the standard bulb. The led is also has a deeper orange and is brighter. The response time is also snappier.

I ordered some new rims. I am going to use these for the summer months and use my stock tires until they wear out. The stock rims will get winter duty.

Slick Automotive will mount them on Tuesday.

I removed the Japanese flag on the license plate holder. On second thought I decided it could be considered as inappropriate because it links to the WW2 history. It felt like driving around with a Swastika on an Audi.
Instead I recycled the BRZ badge.

I received my new Sparco wheels today from Slick Automotive.

Excellent service, Passionate and professional. Highly recommended!

Slick also set me up with a set of weathertechs for the front and the trunk. André gave me a great deal.

Guru Woodman 09-11-2015 03:11 PM

I mounted me some OEM mud guards today.
Slick advised me to buy them at the local Scion dealer, which I did for $60 Canadian. Not bad !

I used this guide and I am happy with the result.

Next on the list is winter tires although I do not want to think about it for now.
