Pioneer NEX & Mirrorlink / AppRadio
Hey guys I was curious if anyone can help me out.
I just finished a complete new sound system in my BRZ. I got the Pioneer 4100NEX (with most recent firmware v1.3) because I wanted Android Auto and Mirrorlink with my Galaxy S5 (Lollipop 5.0). Turns out I can't get AppRadio to work or Mirrorlink to work. This was why I purchased the damn thing. I know probably not many people have this radio, but I was wondering if there was an odd chance anyone else was able to get Mirrorlink / AppRadio with the Galaxy S5 and other NEX radios since they are very similar. Thanks |
Mirrorlink sucks I find. Lags a LOT.
I used a HDMI to Samsung MHL adaptor instead for my AppRadio 3. Not sure if AppRadio unchained (look up the app) will work for the NEX series. Also requires a rooted phone. Allows unrestricted mirroring of your phone's screen on the deck. |

USB 2... The S5 doesn't have HDMI.

What happens when you connect via USB? Also, when you say USB 2, you mean that you have it connected to USB port #2 on the back of the 4100 right? You could also mean that you're using USB2.0 so I just wanted to check. |
You may want to hit up an audio specific forum or check out Google. Here is a thread about the older 8000 model and an S5: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/...ing-app-radio/

S5 has what I was under the impression was USB 3.0 which has the standard microUSB with a small adjacent plug to get the 3.0 connectivity with the proper cord
|
Have you seen this?
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...+Compatibility It seems Samsung phones don't have MHL so they need an adapter... I have that same 4100NEX, but haven't installed it yet... i'll let you know if it works with my HTC One when I do |

1. Did the 4100 work with the existing dash facing? I can't seem to find an accurate measurement stat to check myself 2. I'm considering the 4100 but wanted to know how the resistive touch is over going with capacitive touch on the 8100. Thanks! |
@bigdawg86
I have a Galaxy G3, S4 and S5. It does indeed have a MHL (HDMI) plug. You just need the specific Samsung version of it. |
It may not work if your carrier has locked the bootloader as well. I'm on AT&T with a Note 3 and the touch interface will not work. It's a known issue on the xda forums.

No, I don't have a 4100nex myself, but I've done a lot of research. Can't justify the price at the moment. I've got my phone mounted right next to the stereo and can do all the thing Android Auto can do if not more. Doing all that work, spending all that money and still having to plug in my phone doesn't sound like a good idea even to this Android fanboy. |
Does anybody have problems with Android Auto voice functions not working on their NEX devices? Mine connects and the maps and stuff work but when I push the little microphone on my head unit in Android Auto mode nothing happens
|
@bigdawg86 In the market for the same HU, Pioneer 4100nex. I've researched the additional parts needed to complete this install based on the two DIY directory articles. However neither DIY addressed this specific HU. Do I need any additional parts other than the following:
1. Beatsonic BH1 mounting kit & wiring harness 2. Male/Female Bullet connectors 14-16 gauge 3. Scosche LSAAB Lexus Antenna Adapter 4. Axxess AX-TOYUSB 5. PAC TR7 Please accept my gratitude ahead of time for your help! |

Oh and get a parking brake bypass

@bigdawg86 I really appreciate this quick reply and the help! Definitely getting the parking bypass, going with PAC TR7. It will come in handy on road trips when my husband is driving, that way I can pop a movie in and watch as a passenger when we run out of things to talk about!

works for me. Is your TR7 programmed properly and are you using a relay to reverse polarity as it needs to see a ground pulse and the TR7 puts out a power pulse. |
You don't need to use any bypass device. There is a hidden bypass on the units. Just follow the instructions here: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxQDe0osxUA"]How to Enable Video Bypass on Pioneer NEX Units - YouTube[/ame]

@DieselDog I thought having the PAC TR7 would negate having a relay switch. |

I did mine a few months ago and this is how I did it. http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductD...arine-Mode.pdf If the 4100 needs to see the same parking brake/ground as my 4000 does, this works. I programmed it and wired the relay myself and it worked perfect. |
I have the same radio and I bought for the same reason. It just doesn't want to work. I've tried everything and have done it all from the bypass the the mhl adapter/hdmi to switching phones and all. Damn thing just doesn't want to work. Messed with it for 3 months until I gave up. Only thing i didn't do was mess with the settings on the nex itself(how the smartphone connects and HDMI/Bluetooth settings , if ts a ipod or not blah blah) to a point but that shouldn't matter but i almost threw it into the street so i stopped lol. It does recognize the phone but doesn't mirror it and trust me I've tried it ALL...if it wasn't connected to my OEM audio + , I would of ditched it awhile ago..still a great radio though. I wanted to mirror torque from my phone but the app itself just didn't want to work.

This method does not work on AVH-4000NEX. I've tried and i'm not the only one who confirms it doesn't work on this unit.. That bypass is for the AVIC models not the AVH ones. AVH does not have built in navigation. AVH-4000NEX AVH-4100NEX Need the TR7-PAC or something similar Then the AVIC-5100NEX AVIC-6100NEX AVIC-7100NEX AVIC-8100NEX are all AVIC not AVH and it will work on these units. |

I bought mine for Carplay and it works fantastic. I updated the firmware when i bought it Even the text to speech works great. |

Thanks guys for the input, it's much appreciated. I got really frustrated and with my brothers help last night tried a bunch of ideas from the web to no avail. Gonna take some some away, reevaluate the bypass and decide to either try a different set up or just take it into a professional.

^. This part is not optional, the head unit is not smart enough to figure out what is talking to it.
Is your phone rooted? If so, ditch Android Auto and Mirrorlink, they are both half-baked solutions. Get AppRadio Unchained Reloaded. Full screen mirroring for any app, not just the ones modified to work on AA and Mirrorlink. I had Tasker set up to launch a custom home screen and launcher as soon as the MHL connection was made to make up for the poor resolution (compared to your phone) of the head unit screen. |

"When it states with start only with power and ground", does that mean only hook up the black ground wire and red 12 volt wire to the relay? "Then pulse brown wire to ground 17 times." Does this mean take the brown unhooked wire and tap the black ground wire 17 times? Please accept my gratitude ahead of time for your help! |
you start with the power and ground hooked up to your car.
you can tap the brown wire to any ground in the car or the ground you just hooked up. |

For the smartphone connection in setup you have chosen 'Other', correct? Did the phone establish a bluetooth connection? Give me more info and we can get this to work. |

I had a GS4 with a samsung MHL adapter running full screen mirroring on an AVH-8500BT, the predecessor to the NEX series and it all worked fine using AppRadio Unchained when it was still in beta. Let me know when you get the adapter and we will get this set up.
