Detailed GT86
 

I have been experimenting with detailing my 86; reading some books, watching videos and just generally messing around on my own. I one day want to open up my own detailing business but want to learn as much as possible and become an expert before I do that. If anyone has any good tips they want to share that would be much appreciated!

As a question that comes to mind:

What is a detailers opinion on using Armor All for an interior cleaner? My dad works for a Toyota Dealership and he says their detailers say it's terrible and that it makes the dash and interior panels go white over time. However, I have read (in a very cheap E-Book) that Armor All is recommended for interior detailing. Thoughts on this?

A majority of their products are comprised of filler products and the silicone base can dry plastics out. If you want to gain information you can check out some dedicated detailing forums like Autogeek and find local detailers that can help you out.

There is an extremely large amount of information and disinformation in detailing. But it's quite an addiction that can be a lot of fun. For videos I usually stick with ones done by Mike Philips, Larry from AMMO NYC, Roshan517 also makes awesome videos on youtube.

Are you looking into learning the entire process? Wash - Clay - Iron Decontamination optional - Compounding/Polishing - Wax/Sealant/Coating.

There's quite a bit of information on here and multiple individuals smarter than me willing to help out. So ask any questions you have or concerns since I know some of it can be confusing. Black vehicles are difficult to maintain, but very rewarding once done correctly.

For an interior cleaner I like 1z Einszett Cockpit Premium and dressings can be difficult if you don't want one shiny but 303 Aerospace Protectant works very well and is common.

As far as your pictures, can't really tell anything with a black car sitting in the dark. Get the car out in that bright sunlight so you can really see your work.

Greasy, grimy, and not that great for plastics.

Thumbs up to the meguire interior cleaner, im using the samething and leaves ur panel clean and matte finish, not those shiny one

I will definitely check that out! And yes, I haven't taken too many photos in good lighting but I will certainly do so more in future. Here's one I took at Burleigh, QLD.

Any more pictures of our 16" wheels? Ever considered refinishing them in black? Imo it'd look amazing!

Car definitely looks good bro.

I have had thoughts about rim upgrades, but I haven't got the cash to justify it, and if I did, I'd probably spend it on performance first. However I did put some red rim tape on that was really cheap and makes it look 100% cooler.

Actually, I just did some research and I found some black plasti dip on ebay for 50 bucks which comes with four cans. I am definitely going to get that and post pics when I have done it. Thanks for the post man, I would not have looked in to it if it wasn't for this post! :bow:

Armor all is great! Just depending on which you use, water it down. Had a old corolla (20yrs old) still 90% black, solid, bit warped from sun, plastics in interior, but not faded like a lot of peoples cars nowadays. The secret was watering down the armor all, and cleaning the interior with a dry cloth, then them armorall wipes.

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. Watering it down would make it less intense, but still provide that clean needed to remove coffee stains etc :P

Well it's all standard for the 2014 GT86 so I think that's just plastic, but I could be wrong.

Is the stock "T" badge stuck on with double sided tape only? Any holes on the plastic piece with the badge removed?

Yes, it's just tape. I got it off by applying heat with a blow-dryer and then pulling it off with some dental floss. There are indeed a few holes left there and if you are looking to do what I did, you can strategically place the badge so it covers the holes, but you may still slightly see one or two depending on how you place it. On a black car like mine it's not noticeable at all, but I'm sure there's SOMETHING you can do to cover them, I just don't find it necessary to.
