Subaru BRZ sti

Does anyone have information on this car or if it's even going to happen? Heard it was going to have around 290-300 Hp with turbo. Definitely would get this over the STi

Jesse36m3 03-18-2015 09:53 PM

It's actually going to have a turbojet engine with racing slicks from the factory I heard.

gramicci101 03-18-2015 09:55 PM

They're supposed to make it AWD for the 2017 model year.

phrosty 03-18-2015 10:00 PM

I heard it'll have a rotary engine and be powered by red bull.

It's happening. Keep holding out. But don't get the first iteration of the BRZ Sti, because the second gen will have 350hp.

Imagine how much a tank of that would cost

kch 03-18-2015 10:14 PM

serious answer: nothing has been announced, and at this point, it looks highly unlikely. there is no BRZ STi and probably never will be.

DSOmegaX 03-18-2015 11:30 PM

This is STi's car and thats it.

Here we go again!

To answer your question very simply: No there has not been an announcement and there probably won't be.

carma143 03-19-2015 12:56 AM

Just announced:

I imagine you would start contacting redbull itself for wholesale pricing

Yeah, similar engine to the one in the WRX but different turbo placement or something. It also will have a new exhaust (rumoured is quad tip) and a new factory tune. Probably different bumpers and skirts as well ofc. I'd imagine it looking like the BRZ tS but STI's

GreenMonster 03-19-2015 03:33 PM

UGh... I'd rather hear about the incremental changes that the 2016 BRZ limited will have.

In my opinion there won't be any BRZ STi with turbo. Again, putting turbo in this car defeats the purpose of lightweight, balanced, rwd sports car that this is. I recommend you just be happy with your current car because it is more than good enough.

I think the latest rumor is that brz will discontinue and Ft-1 will be awesome.

I heard they're changing all bolts to fine pitch thread, because they will have better engagement the whole car will be stiffer, I heard it was a 0.001 g improvement around the skidpad.

Will be a tough choice whether or not to trade in.

Speedhead 03-19-2015 07:35 PM

If you´re really after a factory Subaru Turbo engine in the BRZ, the only way would be this:

This is about as close to a Subaru BRZ STI you will get I suspect...

sad thing is this could very well be what they do lol

DSOmegaX 03-20-2015 08:39 PM

Just FYI the tS does come from STi, as in the product is developed, engineered and sold from STi; therefore, that car is your BRZ STi. Turbo does not equal STi.

Nono it's not at all, cuz STI still have the EJ25

FA20F (DIT)

Japanese output:
  • Power: 296 hp (221 kW; 300 PS) at 5,600 RPM
  • Torque: 295 lb·ft (400 N·m; 40.8 kg·m) at 2,000-4,800 RPM
American output:
- Forester XT:
  • Power: 250 hp (186 kW; 253 PS) at 5,600 RPM
  • Torque: 258 lb·ft (350 N·m; 36 kg·m) at 2,000-4,800 RPM
- WRX:
  • Power: 268 hp (200 kW; 272 PS) at 5,600 RPM
  • Torque: 258 lb·ft (350 N·m; 36 kg·m) at 2,000-5,000 RPM
So, you need to get one out from Japanese Legacy GT DIT or Levorg! :party0030: or it doesn't count.

Along with Christian Horner, who will be complaining the whole time that's it's not fair that a Mercedes is faster.

Tuned by STI (tS) and a car actually branded STI are two different things. You don't see anyone calling the Forester tS a high performance STI model, do you? tS = lightly tuned sport package. STI = high performance edition.

I mean, aren't all BRZs tuned by Subaru?

tS stands for "tuned by STi" and STi is the one that brands the tS badge on the car because it's a car that was developed, tuned, tested and released by STi. Hence I consider any tS car to be an STi version. STi has been using the tS moniker for the past few years to designate their versions of Subaru's cars.

DSOmegaX 04-01-2015 08:45 PM

Also, STi doesn't HAVE to name their cars "STi". Think of it this way: the STi high performance variant of the WRX STi isn't actually the WRX "STi". It's the WRX STi "tS", "type RA", "S206" and so on and so forth. These are the cars that are actual STi products that were brought to fruition in the company. Just look at the complete car section in sti.jp.

I am well aware. It's still exactly what I said it was. Light sport tuning. Just simple things like suspension. Not drastic changes like using different engines, upping boost for more power, having faster steering racks for sharper handling, etc.... It's just starting with the base car and adding some light modifications.

DSOmegaX 04-01-2015 09:05 PM

The only response I can give to that is that STi hasn't been doing that with any of their cars for years as far as those kinds of drastic changes. They do upgrade the steering rack on the tS cars though with stiffer bushings and reinforced bolts

Just found this: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ews_4editorial

It's a concept car, so at least someone is thinking about it. Let's hope they go ahead with the project.

There is a very long thread about this concept called new brz at nyias just below this one. Short answer is STi is looking at bringing STi branded parts to the U.S. over the next couple of years. No definite answer on whether those taillights will be included or definate time of availability.
