$1500 to spend

Hello,

Need help deciding between two options.

I have a budget of $1500. Would you spend it on:

A) ST coilovers($1100cad) + invidia catless front pipe($300)

or

B) Tomei UEL header($800cad) with openflash tablet ($600cad)

or

C) Enkei EKM3 ($900) + Eibach sportlines ($400)

Having a hard time deciding between all options. I'm also 50/50 between choosing form over function. My car is currently stock.

Thanks

Bobblehead 03-02-2015 07:14 PM

Stupid adult advice: Have you paid for your car yet? If no, put it towards the loan.

Now for what everyone else (including myself) came here to say: I'd get the OpenFlash Tablet, and the Openflash Header. You can get them for a discounted price, at least in the US. That'll leave you more money afterwards for something else.

JS + BRZ 03-02-2015 07:14 PM

17x9 +35 RPFs with nice summer tires.

Jfheisenberg 03-02-2015 07:14 PM

Mr.Impreza 03-02-2015 07:16 PM

I would go with option 2 personally

Chayse 03-02-2015 07:21 PM

I would go with option two as well. I currently have Tomei EL headers on my BRZ and I couldn't imagine having anything else.

mav1178 03-02-2015 07:34 PM

$1500 of Ambarella stock will become $2000 or more within a month.

Just saying.

This was an option but price after everything would be over $2000. ($1300cad rims plus $900cad tires) Plus, not a fan of how it looks with stock suspension

Thanks for all the suggestions/opinions guys.

Coilovers and open flash tablet! Little bit over, but hey.. life is short man

Didn't know it was in cad. haha Good luck!

I haven't paid for my car yet, but that hasn't stopped me from modding my car. Currently waiting for my exhaust system to come in and installing that. I've already installed a lightweight crank pulley and a cold air intake.

While yes, I could have put that towards the loan, it's not like I'm not responsible about everything. As long as you know what you're doing and are responsible enough with your money, then do as you please. With that being said, I'd go for B.

totopo 03-02-2015 09:41 PM

A SA2015 helmet and 3 track days with insurance.

JohnJuan 03-02-2015 09:42 PM

1500/40 = 37.5 autocross events. Driver mod is best mod.

tracerit 03-02-2015 10:11 PM

I would go with the OFT first. The car will just drive so much better. When I took off my Unichip and drove it stock, it felt sluggish. Threw the OFT back on and things were chugging along quite nicely.

I would also look into a heavyweight shift knob. I have the Raceseng Slammer, which is 3x heavier than the stock knob and the shifts are sooo pleasant. And you're always shifting, so you'll definitely reap the benefits here as well. Same goes for the OFT.

NLSP 03-02-2015 10:23 PM

Hard to give you a recommendation when you don't even know what your own goals with the car are. But out of the listed options, I'd go with B.

If you're looking for increased driving pleasure, my own recommendation would be a good set of summer tires and an exhaust. Increasing grip and exhaust noise increased the fun factor for me the most so far.

Teseo 03-02-2015 10:24 PM

I'd spent in
1oz of weed
Package of condoms
A hooker
Cheap hotel
As said before go with open flash combo

Thorpedo 03-02-2015 10:30 PM

A

MikeM7 03-02-2015 11:09 PM

I got openflash tablet first, then openflash header and perrin 2.5" catback. I would do OFT/OFH, but I can't speak from experience as I haven't installed the bolt ons yet.

Also K&N filter just because it's cheap and the stock filter appears to be made of egg carton.

fatoni 03-03-2015 02:29 AM

Wheels, tires, and alignment is the most cost effective combo for both form and function.

Definitely this unless you haven't paid off the car then it's kind of iffy.

Baoturbo 03-03-2015 11:51 AM

I would go for the header and the tune

yomny 03-03-2015 12:10 PM

B or C

The frontpipe wont give you much power and it'll stink a little with no cat. So you're better of with the header plus tune or just go for nice looks and a little improved handling with option C and wait till you could get a full exhaust and tune.

ncmx5 03-03-2015 01:27 PM

Good tires , good alighnment good pads and fluids , then hit up every track and autocross event you can.

86Tony 03-03-2015 01:30 PM

Tomei headers and OFT

sixthree 03-03-2015 02:37 PM

Just another fact. My vehicle is fairly new(8000km) and is still under warranty. Would getting just the header without a tune void my warranty?

srizzors25 03-03-2015 03:00 PM

I believe so if they ever found out. Depends on how much you value your warranty.

Personally I'm not going to mess with the engine until the warranty is up just in case. So I vote coilovers and catback instead of front pipe

But based on your options I really like option 3 there. It'll be fun to drive and look at. Springs/wheels/tires make it a very nice animal

You know how that warranty subject is very delicate. Normally they'll have to prove some how that the issue at hand is directly related or caused by your modified part. There are a few factors however that could determine the outcome, how nice the dealer is, if you know someone that could look the other way.. but an ECU flash and a header which replaces or completely removes the cat would most likely "void" the warranty or give them a very good reason to deny coverage. If you're worried about that, then its best to stay away from engine modifications.. then again if you have issues with your control arm or abs speed sensor they could blame it on your spring or coilover drop. So when you modify the car, be ready to have issues with any warranty claim.

yomny 03-03-2015 03:24 PM

If I were you, which I was very worried about warranty till not long ago. I'll stick with suspension/wheels. Its less likely for these bad boys to have any issues with it than with your typical, CEL/traction lights, crickets, disappearing coolant.. and god knows what else lol. I've had warranty work done with full suspension setup and no issues, including a factory re-flash to fix the so called "idle dip".

How are you liking the st coilovers + rota titans? Thats a potential option in the long run

Surprisingly great parts for the money. The ST's may not be the ideal track setup but on the street they're great. These are one of the softest coilovers around, spring rates are compared to those of springs alone. The rota's I absolutely love. I've had them for quite some time and they're holding up just fine. The paint is still looking like the first day, they're very light and feel solid. Ultimately I want RPF1's and RSR coilovers but as I do track my car every now and then.

wbradley 03-03-2015 04:33 PM

Teseo kinda beat me to it. I was going to pick hookers and blow.

Or, if you are in Markham, 4 hand massage, blow and maybe a few more 4 hand massages.

adamg 03-03-2015 04:57 PM

Coils and ebay catless UEL Headers for like $250. then save up for your OFT and/or wheels

akahenry 03-03-2015 05:42 PM

Pay the car off first then go with option B.

Between yesterday and today, you would've made $160+ on a $1500 AMBA investment.

From 5 days ago, would've made over $300.

Just saying... but I'm also assuming you're buying mods with cash. If you're buying with credit card, then good luck.

Why does this sound like a pitch from wolf of wall-street?

Tell me more about this magical place that hands out weekly 300 dollar paychecks for doing nothing...

Ambarella crushed earnings estimates today and the stock is up double-digits in less than a week on strong forecast.

So how much of your money have you invested and what's your return so far?

in AMBA? Up probably $100 but I only have like 10 shares. However, I am in no position to give financial advice, I just merely made my comment since OP was very vague about how to spend $1500 and AMBA's earnings call was this week.

$500 Open-Flash Tablet
$200 TRD Springs
$50 Alignment (after springs)
$150 TRD Quickshift Kit
$10 Diode dynamics interior LEDs
$15 Flyby Forte Glass coating
$10 Bottle of ONR Wash + Wax
$30 Good microfibers + waffle weaves from theragcompany
$1 bucket from walmart
$0 Clutch pedal height adjustment
$0 Clutch pedal spring removal
$0 DIY TRD sound tube mod
$534 towards loan

Don't let anybody fool you, these are the best mods you can do to this car. Not coils, not fart cans, not big fancy wheels. Once you've done this list, work on paying it off.
