Are they allowing Day 2 only sign up this year? If so I'm definitely in (again)

wparsons 03-02-2015 05:35 PM

In the past you could sign up for just day 2 if you had completed something comparable to day 1 in the past, I don't see this year being any different.

What happens at these driving clinics? I am guessing you bring your own car and learn to drive with an instructor? Is there any prep work I need to do before I attend?

in terms of prep work, you need to make sure your fluids are in check, no leaks, and that your brakes work. Also cleaning out your car of all loose items saves time at the event.

the 2-day clinic starts off slow, with people doing skidpads and figure-8s, then on to j-turns, abs/braking exercises and basic slaloms.

The main point of the clinic is to get you comfortable pushing the limits of your car. It is amazing how difficult it is sometimes to get people to brake HARD and to flick the car into a rotation. The exercises help you focus on one thing at a time and get comfortable with getting the car loose.

on the 2nd day they'll be a basic autocross layout so you can put everything together.

these things sell out super quick, and if you've never been to anything like this then I suggest you do, it's a great value and you learn a lot.

infinity21 03-03-2015 01:34 PM

Looks interesting! Any ideas on cost?

BRZ'13 03-03-2015 02:06 PM

Where is registration? JRP?

wparsons 03-04-2015 10:31 AM

Yep, JRP at 11:30am on march 28th!

This sounds pretty awesome. Never done anything like this or even owned a rwd before. So is this strictly going to be a a gt86/frs/brz function or will the be other cars out there as well?

All makes and models are welcome

Last year there were about 6-7 twins, 2 miatas, 4-5 WRX/STis, 2 M3s, etc etc

Even a Subaru Outback showed up

Lorico 03-04-2015 11:11 PM

Cool. I'm a bit confused on how to sign up. very interested in this. I'd definitely be in for the long drive down just for this. Too bad it's a 2 day function.

wparsons 03-05-2015 12:17 PM

Any make/model is welcome.

Registration is at the CASC open house at JRP, opens at 11:30am on Saturday March 28th. You can also register online (also starting at 1pm on the 28th). If you're registering in person, show up EARLY to get in line. Last year it sold out REALLY fast, like 10-15 minutes.

Here's some shots from last year:

Registration time is now 11:30am! Be there early if you want a spot!

Dango1 03-22-2015 12:24 PM

So just to confirm, is it:

1. Sunday
2. March 28th
3. My calendar is broken and its all of the above.

?

Heero 03-22-2015 02:57 PM

I am hyped for this.

This summer is likely the last time I will be able to spend time my my Zed, so I want to get as much out of her as possible :)

EDIT:

Fuck.. Of course i would have my last exam on that day.

Screw Waterloo

Lol. See you on Saturday then!

drewbot 03-24-2015 07:48 AM

I would say 11:30 for both. This event literally sold out in 5 minutes last year

7thgear 03-24-2015 10:33 AM

yeah there's a good chance of it being sold out at 11:31 XD

l think if there was a Justin Beiber concert the tickets wouldn't sell out as quickly.

:)

jk, it wont be that bad... but I honestly can't tell you since I'm never there to sign up for anything. I usually just show up for 5 minutes to show face then leave.

coming at 11 probably wont do much good (since the chances are that they wont even be setup), but just shoot for 11:30 I suppose.

Sorry, looks like it's going to be a rough week for you living on the tough streets of mississaugian suburbia.

11:30am for both in person or online.

I'd aim to be there for 11am just to be safe.

Sigsegv 03-28-2015 03:59 PM

Well I am confirmed going to this...

It sold out in less than 3 minutes!

drewbot 03-28-2015 05:05 PM

count me in for day 2

also signed up a mustang buddy

Dango1 03-28-2015 09:12 PM

I'm registered for both days!

See you all there

wparsons 03-29-2015 12:15 PM

Awesome! I meant to introduce myself better to anyone registering, but it was so hectic I was only able to enter names and yell "NEXT" :D

I did have a few FRS/BRZ come to me, if it was anyone, hi! I was the second person taking registrations, next to the guy standing up.

Rameus 03-30-2015 12:53 PM

Hmm, I came out to this hoping to find you, wparsons, or other GTA FRS owners, but never did. I got there too late to register and ended up talking to the TAC and Oshawa club guys. I just got my FR-S last week and was hoping to get your opinions on autocross and its "relationship" to warranty...

I came in the 2015 Steel FR-S and parked to the left of two Asphalts.

sergiomordo 03-30-2015 01:45 PM

I signed up for both days.. Don't think you will have any issues with warranty, this car is made for this stuff. And Scion promotes racing these cars with contingency programs etc. Just make sure to break in your engine before doing any track days etc..

I was the unlucky white fr-s that parked next to one of those flags, which fell down and dented my roof :( But they are going to fix it at no cost to me which is good :)

When did you get there? If you parked next to the two Asphalt FRS' then myself and @BryceRocket were still there (mine has red tails).

Bryce was doing membership stuff for SPDA, I was taking driving clinic registrations. Once the clinic was sold out I was over at the OTA booth.

In any case, you'll be fine for warranty. Just make sure it's broken in fully first.

Rameus 03-30-2015 04:04 PM

It was probably about 12:15 by the time I got there. Good to hear positive opinions on the warranty topic.

Do any of you guys go to the regular GTA meets? I'd be interested in meeting you guys (or any FRS owners who autocross or have a foot in motorsports in Ontario).

7thgear 03-30-2015 04:05 PM

you can meet us at the autocross events :)

I personally stay away from the generic meets.

sergiomordo 03-30-2015 04:09 PM

We arranged couple meets on Fridays at Chatime parking lot in Markham. These meets went well, no idiots doing burnouts or trying to race, just car guys talking about cars and meeting each other. After haveing meets every week for a while we stopped but might continue.. I heard there was a meet last friday on missisauga side but i was told some idiots tried to race etc..

There will be weekly meets by BRZ World on wednesdays starting in May i believe as well.

wparsons 03-30-2015 04:14 PM

Most of the meets are too far away for my lazy ass :D

Serge (7thgear) is at pretty much every autoslalom event in the area, and I'll be at almost all (or all) of the OTA time attack events. Might check out CSCS when it stops at CTMP since it's only ~25 minutes away from home.

7thgear 03-30-2015 04:17 PM

well, not EVERY.

last year I hit up the regionals and PITL.

This year I may do Regionals and TLMC. Only so much wife points.

Rameus 03-30-2015 05:37 PM

Haha thanks guys. I hope to meet some of you at autoslaloms this year then.

What's the best way to keep myself informed of the 2015 autoslalom schedule? The CASC forums have a draft 2015 schedule up, but as I understood it after talking to people this past Saturday, there should be many autoslaloms run by a variety of groups...?
