Updating Shift Knob?

I could have sworn I saw a shift knob that displays what gear you're in on top, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone else seen it, or am I going crazy?

8R6 02-26-2015 09:33 PM

the knob itself shows what gear it's in?

i'm perfectly fine never having seen that kinda stuff lol

Ec1990 02-26-2015 09:40 PM

I'm not sure I see the point. It shows on the dash why would you want it on the shifter?

Mr Kirmudget 02-26-2015 10:10 PM

I'm not saying it's the most practical thing ever, I'm just trying to find it again. But yes the number on top of the knob changes whenever you change gear.

FRSfan111 02-26-2015 11:28 PM

Does it go to eleven? If it's not one louder I don't want it!

veck 02-27-2015 06:33 PM

It was just a dream.

HachiRo 02-27-2015 06:49 PM

Ill find it, I know what you're talking about.

HachiRo 02-27-2015 07:03 PM

NVM LOL couldn't find it for the FRS. Only other cars.

continuecrushing 02-27-2015 07:04 PM

That's the idea, but no it was specific to the twins. I'm beginning to think veck may be right.

chubky 02-28-2015 01:52 AM

Forget looking at the dash to see what gear you're in when you can see on the shift knob! Lol

Cool accessory idea though

Billion 03-01-2015 05:02 AM

My 86 has the speed on the dash so i wouldnt mind a knob like this actually :)

retoocs 03-01-2015 07:39 AM

If you are looking down, you can already see what gear you are in.

You need to activate it on the manual cars to display the gear in the same digital box as the odometer, mileage, outside temperature.

Billion 03-01-2015 11:34 AM

Yeah i just saw that in another random thread i was reading haha! The BRZ i test drove before i bought my 86 had the gears on the dash so i figured you could do it on the 86 i just never bothered to look into it :P

WhiteFRS69 03-01-2015 11:42 AM

you know you can have it display what gear your in, on the display where your mileage, trip mileage and outside temp is

why have it both?

Billion 03-01-2015 12:09 PM

Maybe he desperately needs to know the outside temperature and which gear he is in at the same time :P

stugray 03-01-2015 12:30 PM

I am trying to imagine how the knob would know what gear you are in.
I dont see how it would work.

Even if you put an accelerometer in it to feel when you move the lever, the car moving around (cornering, braking accelerating) it wouldnt be able to tell.

So sounds like a dream to me.

D.Scrye 03-01-2015 01:21 PM

Wouldn't it just be less distracting to drop a hand onto the knob to feel what gear you're in?

it displays both for you at the same time

Billion 03-03-2015 12:56 PM

Yeah i see that now! Got it working on my car. The brz i test drove had the gear displayed in the top screen in place of the speed so i thought thats what everyone was refering to :P

This is somewhat off topic but does anyone know if the AT and MT knobs are compatible?

I'm wanting to run a AT knob(without gear logo) on my MT.

No they are not. Why not get a replacement logo.

I was hoping to run the AT TRD knob since it only has the TRD logo on it.

MachV used to sell one. IMHO it was a tacky and not very useful. Why would you look at the gear knob for a readout when you could put that readout in your field of view?

It was electronically controlled iirc, something like rpm, speed, etc. calculated to guess??

I covered my stock shift knob in alcantara. That's as upgraded as it is going to get.
