Is it worth buying aftrmarket parts for the frs?

Esp. with the dollar here in Canada......dam expensive. Love the car the way it sits now. Wouldnt mind gettting hids..rims...etc....but is it worth it?
For a regular Joe thats scrimping and saving.....is the outcome really worth it? I struggle with this as Im a cheap bastard..lol

No

Modding only makes sense for personal enjoyment. Presumably you have some sort of budget, so mods would come from your entertainment/amusement/whatever category. You will probably find that it costs a lot to get a little with mods. Also, serious mods like power adders and so forth will hurt the value of the car, which you'll need to budget as well.

Tcoat 02-25-2015 10:00 PM

Worth it if you want it. Not worth it if you don't!
I, for one, despise the sound of the stock exhaust so it is "worth it" in my eyes to change it.
This is really an unanswerable question since it is totally subjective.

Pbrown 02-25-2015 10:13 PM

Modding is Ok

If you take care of all your other responsibilities first. Shame to get a new exhaust and not be able to put your child into their favorite pastime. But yes this is a very subjective and is based on personal preference as you see, I rather enjoy it as I don't have any other vices.

Set a limit, stay within it

subjective yes.. if your well off then no big deal. usually the most valued buys are the ones you scraped for.....maybe not now for me but when I was younger

sledheadguy 02-25-2015 11:12 PM

what exhaust did you get Tcoat? review? Actually thats one of the only mods I am thinking. I live in a condo. Still looking for a mild exhaust at low rpm to not piss off the heighboors..with a meaty sound when revved........choices choices..lol

Mr.Impreza 02-26-2015 12:03 AM

If your going to keep the car forever or a long time and enjoy modding than yes, do it. If your not going to keep the car for long or if the car makes you happy as it is keep it stock and enjoy it.

The main thing is, don't mod for the sake of modding because you see others do it.

Drive the car, once something seems to annoy you or you want an improvement than go for it!

It's what I'm doing. I'm really taking it slow and only changing things once i feel like it's time.

I got lucky and my car was the showroom car for all the available dealer add ons including the TRD parts. It had the TRD exhaust, filter, sway bars, Scion spoiler, full tint, clear bra and RSR lowering springs on it already. I bargained most of it into the price of the car so it was actually "free" (I paid $1000 over sticker for $4000 worth of stuff.
The exhaust is almost perfect for my needs. Gives a great sound but no torches and pitchforks from the neighbours. It is however one of the pricier choices out there so not your best bet on a budget.

Don't even start, one thing leads to another and soon you will be thinking about how to sell you home and live cheaply to afford more and more parts...

D_Thissen 02-26-2015 12:23 PM

It only matters what you think. I think my favourite mods are JDM side markers and Toyota badges. They were inexpensive (I think it was <200 bucks) and changed the look of the car, IMO, drastically. Yes rims and exhaust are nice too but they cost significantly more lol.

As long as your other financial responsibilities are taken car of, do what with make you happy. YOLO ;)

Live cheap, ride fast :p

If you have to ask, then it's probably not for you. Mod because you want to, not because an Internet forum told you it's "worth it"

Bergen23 02-28-2015 10:30 PM

I've dumped a lot more money on my car than I initially intended to. Now I look at it and kick myself, as that could have been applied to the loan on the car. However, with the fun I've had with installing the parts, and spending time with buddies installing stuff, totally worth it. I'll probably keep dumping money into it, but I gotta get it paid off by next winter so I can afford to go to school, so modding is taking the back burner for a while

fatalelement 02-28-2015 10:33 PM

It's as worth it as buying fashionable clothes. If you like it, its super worth it. If you don't, it's super not. Every price is worth it to someone. Even if it's a 3.5k Tommy Kaira exhaust lol

True, but moving up in the engineering firm I work for because of higher education certainly will :burnrubber:

This is a huge part of making it "worth it"! If you are paying somebody to add those parts you could be missing out on a lot of the pure enjoyment and satisfaction of doing it yourself. Granted there are some like myself that do not have the facilities or equipment anymore to do such work so we need to really decide if it is actually the final result we are looking forward to or just the anticipation of getting it done.
Back in the olden days my buddies and I would work on a project for months just to turn around and sell it since it was the project that was fun not necessarily the finished product.
Hell, just look at some of the builds on here that as soon as they were done they moved onto something new.

Spending money to do something rewarding with friends, is always the best use of money. You'll get far more enjoyment from the modding then the finished product. Also, your vehicle will be less valuable afterward. Clean cars are worth more.... Despite what you see on the used car market.

Providing you have a few wobbly pops, I'd be more than willing to bring tools!

If you're really on a budget look at used stuff. I got about 90% of my mods used or via groub buys on this forum and have saved probably $1-1.5k over buying new. Also like everyone else has said find a good group of enthusiasts and help each other with installs. It's a great time, you learn lots about your car, and you get a real sense of accomplishment from it.

I do warn you, it can very quickly turn into an addiction. Sometimes I'm glad I have my wife to stop me from buying more than I need.
