Got stuck in the snow today.
So i went to work this morning with absolutely no snow. And hour at work the snow starts to come down and by 3 pm it's 5 or 6 inches deep. I got stuck tryna get home. I took the traction control off and and engaged the sport mode so I can try to get out of some spots. Can you mess your differential and manual transmission up revving excessively on and off of traction control? It would make deep clunking sounds it seem from the differential or transmission. Can anyone give me some input on this subject.

Have '13 auto BRZ...I have had to do that last week to get moving in the snow (was 4 inches at the time). Spinning wheels/ turning traction control off/ crazy clicking sounds from the front. Also, have had to do this over the last 3 winters each time it snows getting up our driveway since it has an incline.
Car has been fine after each episode so no signs of damage yet. |

Yea a lot of weird noises. It's my first winter with my FRS. Glad every things fine for you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
There is nowhere in Maryland that got 5 feet of snow today, let alone in a few hours. You need to lay off the drugs boy.
|
All the sounds are from a combination of fuel cutoff and brake application from the TC and DSC.
If it snows and you're running summer tires, I recommend you leave it at home or work. |

I don't think I've ever had anyone tell me that what I was seeing was wrong thru the Internet. Your prob in Waldorf or la plata or something but it's preeetttyyyy white down here. But it's prob just like the acid and the Molly or something. Your absolutely right. I do indeed need to stay of these non existent drugs I'm taking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Few days ago, dude in front of me missed his braking point and popped out of the major intersection by just 1 foot and another guy caught him, totaled both cars. |

Wow that's crazy. Hope it wasn't an 86 owner. But either way it sucks. I'll have my winters ready by next year. I prob won't drive my car next time snow is in the forecast Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And yes, on place can have a pile of snow and someplace 10 minutes away. I see it all the time on my 2 hour commute smack between all the Great Lakes. |

Second this. I only have trouble in snow if its deep enough for the car to high-center. The ice in Halifax now has me hoping I don't rip off both bumpers and my exhaust though. |
I think you need to understand the difference between feet and inches...

What he said...I live on a peninsula that juts out into one of those lakes. I've seen it snow here at the rate of 1 foot per hour (sometimes more), while people just 10-15 minutes north only get a few inches total. Wind plays a big part too. 1 foot of snow can easily make for 3-4 foot snow drifts in very little time. I have been pleasantly surprised a few times by just how good this car is in the snow with the right tires. |

Complains about getting stuck in the snow in a RWD car. Has summer tires.
I'm logging off from the internet from the day. Goodnight everyone. |

And it can't possibly be the dumbest thing you have ever read on here! |

Who's complaining? I was asking about the noises. Why don't you finish reading next time bud Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The 86 is not a winter car.

I got stuck for a bit today, took Trac control completely off. Backed up and moved up a few feet 2 or 3 times then just throttled forward and drifted out of my situation. Luckily I was in a stop sign behind a mall strip and barely anyone passed by.
TL; DR mashed on the far right pedal a lot |

Hey OP, I also live in MD and just after getting my FRS in November 2014 I investigated getting those Primacy's off the car. My personal decision was to simply move to All Seasons instead of swapping tires twice a year.
Snow tires are the hands-down most effective way to go, if you want to swap tires to accommodate Summer and Winter conditions here in MD. Short of that, All Seasons are the next best alternative. There are plenty of great reviews here on this forum. I bought Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's and, IMO, not only did these tires introduce a much better and safer wet/dry driving experience, they can also handle some snow. Below 40 degrees, the Primacy's get very hard and are downright dangerous. With the PS3's, I have only driven them in a few inches of snow so far and I have to agree with TCoat, the FRS was very capable and predictable. There were other up-sides to my tire purchase as well. First, my Primacy's sold almost instantly to a really friendly fellow forum member. Secondly, after buying tires for decades at Sears and a local tire company, I found an excellent retailer in Northern MD. They really know tires, they can get you anything fast, and their prices are the best I've found - by a considerable margin. Let me know if you want the recommendation (no affiliation!). Hope this helps. |

no, I'm running all seasons but they still suck (but much better that the stock summers) |

On my old STI, which had a torsen LSD in the rear similar to the Twins, I once got it high-sided on some snow/ice. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to get it un-stuck and eventually triggered a rear differential temperature light to come on. At that point, the manual suggested replacing the rear differential fluid so I did. Apparently the fluid breaks down quickly when the temperature rises above a certain point. No problems after that. |

Also: "DON'T BE A MORON AND USE SUMMER TIRES IN THE SNOW!!!" Lastly: "DON'T POST ABOUT HOW YOU SLID/CRASHED/DAMAGED YOUR CAR WITH SUMMER TIRES IN THE SNOW AND EXPECT ANY SORT OF SYMPATHY. YOU ARE A MORON AND YOU'RE LUCKY YOU DIDN'T KILL SOMEONE." |
