mudflaps.....yaay lets do it..
post pics away........need ideas, brands, colors, size and usefulness.....gotta pull the tigger soon.
Thinking a flexible flap is the way to go as it would be more forgiving when I bottom it out. And no fugley red ones............... |
I find the Canadian stock ones work just fine for most conditions. May want to go bigger if you are going to do dirt track/gravel roads though
|
I have a set of Rally Armor mudflaps. Black with blue letters.
I really like them, they seem to do a pretty decent job of keeping crap from flying up. Just make sure to clean the snow off of them before it turns to ice. |
Dealer ones are really perfect. I got a set of red Rokblokz for my rocky winter usage. They're stiff but they have a version for lowered cars and the normal. They're not too flashy, they're grey or black for most of the winter months.
The most popular are the rally amours though. I've heard good things about the gorilla flaps too. |
I got the OEM ones as a dealer option. They do the job.

Y i know this is a sports car. just looking for a little more protection! |
If you want solid ones, go for the OEM dealer ones. If you need slightly larger ones and want flexible, go Rally Armour. I love my RA flaps to death because of all the oil field driving I end up doing. Saves my car from rock chips and picks up quite a bit of the crap on the road too. It won't catch everything though, but it does help.
|
Love my RA's. Does a great job of keeping salt and sand from hitting the side of the car!
|
OEM are "splash guards", right? Little cutesy ones? I say go Rally Armor or go home! Those stick out to the sides and really protect the sides of your car, and the expensive ones are super thick and durable. In a pinch they also double as curb feelers. :D
I've used RA ones on my WRX for the past 8 years. Still look great. Of course EVERY Subaru seems to have them. They're rally-sporty, but not sportscar sporty. Of course you can just run them in the winter if you want. |
OEM ones here.

+1 on OEM. Just get it over with.

Wasn't there someone on this forum with the stock splash guards and they ended up rubbing the paint away or something on one side?

I like the look of the OEM ones but my side skirts don't fit with the fronts on. Be careful with these. Put some tape along the edges of the mudflap. I had mine on for a year and had some paint scratches. I am planning on grabbing some rally armor ones soon.

I have a set of Rally Armor mudflaps I put on during winter, since I'm pretty sure the NJ mafia uses the road salt industry to launder money. This means my asphalt FRS turns white for a few months of the year.
I'm not the type to care about "the haters", but ho-lee shit do those rub people the wrong way. A guy on the sidewalk once yelled "you don't need mudflaps!" while I was driving by. Others have expressed a "thank god you got rid of those" sentiment after I uninstalled them for the summer. |
I understand you want to protect your paint, but the Rally Armor flaps look so stupid. Paint chips would actually look better.
At least the OEM guards look like they belong on the car. |

They best way to go about it is to instal them over a clear bra. |
When I was a kid my grandmother had this green floral-patterned sofa in her living room that was encased in plastic. Not only was the plastic ugly, but it was also uncomfortable as hell. And noisy! But it was the only place to sit. This plastic crap was something the furniture stores sold as an add-on back in the '70s to protect your investment from normal wear.
She had that fucking sofa the entire time I was growing up. Yeah, the plastic protected the fabric until it finally became brittle and started cracking. But by that time, the internal structure of the sofa had broken down so that you'd sink right through one end of it if not for the plastic holding you up off the floor. So we ended up taking an out-of-style busted-ass sofa with perfect fabric to Goodwill. These Rally Armor mudflaps are the automotive equivalent of my grandmother's plastic sofa covering. What you're protecting against isn't worth the ugly, when there are OEM solutions that do the job reasonably well without making the car look stupid. |

Everybody's a critic.
Am I glad I have RAs? Yes, yes I am. And they're red! Despite what the pic below might show from the day after Valentine's Day driving around DC. Would I still run them if I still lived in Southern California? No, I wouldn't. But I also wouldn't have ever bought the FR-S in the first place. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pshzlpjq9t.jpg |
