What Will You Call Your 86?

So there it is. I consider my car to be a crossbreed bastard with too many damn names. I think Toyobaru fits best, even if it sounds funny. Hell, that just set spellcheck off. I think I'l answer the question "What IS that?" with "It's a Toyobaru 86", or just "It's an 86". How 'bout you?

Edit: I'm likin' the great nicknames also. My Firestorm 86 is called "Candy O", after the Cars tune from the '79. She's red, sweet, curvaceous, and a delicious treat to take for a drive:):

I'd say GT86. Personally i think "Scion FRS" is very unimaginative. I feel the same about the name "BRZ," as i've already expressed a desire to rename it "Zenith."

Fish 06-09-2012 02:48 PM

Someone asked what it car it was. I told them it was Sexy.

But really, I told them its a Scion FR-S. Then proceeded to explain it's really a Toyota GT86. But it was branded as a Scion for incomprehensible reasons.

MVJ1975 06-09-2012 03:37 PM

I just call it Midnight. If anyone asks who makes it I'll say it's a Toyota.

Gaiakai 06-09-2012 03:40 PM

I'm going to call it "mine".

phm14 06-09-2012 03:43 PM

I realized right after I posted that I should have added more options, like "Toyota 86" and "Something Else", but I don't see a way to add them now. Maybe one of the mods can help with that. In the mean time, please post whatever you come up with, and maybe save your vote until we have more options.

Why you ask? Because shes kinda black, got a nice ass, took all my money, and can predict what I'm going to do next while driving ;)

I'm going to call my hot lava FR-S Vesuvius. As far as brand, I'll probably just leave it as what it is, a Scion FR-S.

I actually think the name FR-S is brilliant because it follows in line with their previous MR-S sports car.

FR-S = Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive - Sports Car
MR-S = Mid Engine, Rear Wheel Drive - Sports Car

86 doesn't mean a whole lot in America since it was called a Corolla here.

Well, i feel that those names are just kind of lazy is all.

Well I think cars should have fairly basic and logical names rather than super-hero names. But it doesn't matter too much to me either way.

I've always liked creative, imaginative names rather than the types of names BMW and Infiniti give their cars. 'Just what i like, that's all.

IMO it depends on the type of car it is. Typical economy cars, sure I wouldn't care what it's called - but with the likes of Ferraris or Lambos, of course you'd want superhero (sounding) names: "The" Enzo, Aventador, Corvette, Skyline, etc.

Bristecom 06-09-2012 06:34 PM

Yeah, I guess it just depends. But sometimes they sound pretty ridiculous when they come up with a new name. So what if they called it "Hachi-Roku" spelled out? Would that be better?

Calidrifter 06-09-2012 06:35 PM

Bloody Mary

Travis 06-09-2012 08:52 PM

I will call it the Hatchiroku, but scream it loudly each time I say it...

ok probably just the 86 or FRS

86design 06-09-2012 09:00 PM

roddy 06-09-2012 09:44 PM

It was branded a Scion FR-s at the factory, so that is what I'll call it. The Scion brand is not very popular around here (closest dealer is a 1.5 hr drive away), and most people don't even know what it is. I would imagine I'll tire pretty quickly of explaining the Toyota/Subaru link.

Mr.Jay 06-09-2012 09:52 PM

I`m calling my car Steven Seagal cause it breaks necks

synchromesh 06-09-2012 11:37 PM

Age of Aquarius/UltraMarine Blue= Ariel.

Calum 06-10-2012 06:21 AM

Well, I've got an Asphalt FRS, my buddy said it looked like the Bat-mobile. I think I'll stick with that.

You should have added ZN6/ ZC6 to the list. I reflexively call mine an "eight-six" around non-car people (don't mean to confuse them, it's just how I've come to identify the car), and will probably refer to it as the ZN6 around car-freaks.

Moto-P 06-10-2012 09:48 AM

I can't call it 86 (Hachiroku) with ease, knowing well that that is another car that I have worked with for 20 years... :D

For me, it will be FT86 or whatever the Japanese tuner market will call it as general referred model name.
ZN6 seems to be catching on, as that's pretty much how other cars have been named in the manufacturer side of things, by its chassis code in Japan.

nix 06-10-2012 09:51 AM

My car is officially a Toyota 86, I'll call it an 86. I usually call ae86's sprinters anyway.

I posted a question about adding poll options yesterday. Still waiting for a response. I'll add those if possible.

Turbowned 06-10-2012 02:23 PM

Assuming I get a BRZ, I'll call it a BRZ. If I get an FR-S I'm gonna call it an 86, and promptly swap out the badging with Toyota badges.

As for the car's nickname? I think "Artemis" has a nice ring to it; Artemis was known as the Greek goddess of the hunt.

I will prolly call it the zed or the toyobaru, just because i love pronouncing Japanese R syllables "ru, ri, re, ra, ro"

86 doesn't mean a whole lot in America since it was called a Corolla here.

It was a Corolla in Japan too, AE86 was the chassis code which turned into the nickname.

Seems that people are taking to this idea more than when I tried it six months ago http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3251

I will just have to wait and see what the personality brings out. I know what I would like to call it but sometimes it just just time for the personality of the car to develop a suitable name.

phm14 06-20-2012 10:40 AM

Yeah. Kind of tough when nobody owned the car.

F1point4 06-21-2012 11:51 AM

Asphalt FR-S. First name that popped into my head was "Lola" so I went with that.

When I tell people what kind of call i have, i mix it up between Scion FR-S and Toyota GT86. Might start using the chassis code because I can say "Zed-N6"

ChadSexington 06-21-2012 11:57 AM

Pbrown 06-21-2012 01:27 PM

I have decided to call mine "WTF" because that seems to be the consistent expression on people's faces as I drive by.

Dadhawk 06-21-2012 02:06 PM

My FR-S has been officially named "Olivia" which was also the name of my MK1 MR2 and, of course, a certain Brit-Aussie singer that I've had a crush on since the 70's.
