I'm changing my order from World Rally Blue to Lightning Red

Until yesterday I had only ever seen two colors in person, and neither of which on a BRZ. I had seen a silver FR-S at a local Scion dealer, and a World Rally Blue WRX STI at a local Subaru dealer. I've been away in Massachusetts on vacation and managed to find both a Lightning Red BRZ Limited 6AT and a World Rally Blue BRZ Premium 6MT just sitting on a dealer's lot (Clay Subaru for those that are interested), presumably unsold.

World Rally Blue had looked amazing on the WRX STI the first time I saw it up close, but now seeing it on a BRZ, it looked flat and full of orange peel. In short, it was a big disappointment. The red BRZ on the other hand looked so much better in person than in the pictures I had seen. Most of the pictures on this website, for example, have terrible color balance or exposure and don't give any idea of how Lightning Red looks in person.

After mulling over whether to change my order and potentially delay my delivery date, I decided that it would be best to order the car I really want and to wait for it, since in the end I'll have a larger down payment or perhaps even be able to pay straight cash for the car.

Does the change in color effect the order considering the fact your car hasnt been built yet?

The dealership will have to cancel the old order and submit a new one. The salesman is unsure what effect it will have on the delivery date; he's just as much in the dark as we are on this, which goes to show what a colossal screw-up this whole allocation/ordering business has been. I was #7/7 out of my dealership and will remain so, so hopefully it won't hurt me too badly.

lol Im 10/10 so I guess it wont hurt me much either if I switch. I originally ordered my BRZ in black but now Im starting to lean toward the lightning Red cause I figured I add black to it here and there. It was a matter wanting black on red or red on black

10/10...Get what you want, but decide soon. I don't think it will hurt you too badly but make sure you're comfortable with waiting a little longer if you have to.

You're lucky you have that choice. Here in Canada, the BRZ is only available in 4 colors... white, silver, black, and WR blue. No dark grey, galaxy blue, or red.

Why not order from a dealership stateside and ship it? Is it possible and/or reasonable to do so?

You won't be disappointed with the red. It is gorgeous!

It is possible, and not overly difficult to do. If the price difference on the car (between $CDN and $US) was larger, It might be worth doing. It would take a big hit in resale/trade-in value IF one decided to part with it in the future. US spec cars are actually pretty popular in the used market because of this. As an example, we bought a US '08 Acura RDX a couple of years ago for about $22,000, while the Canadian spec ones with the same mileage were going for $29,000+.

I really wanted GBS/Ultramarine and ordered an FR-S.

That is so weird. I can't think of any reason why this makes sense. :iono:

I don't get it either...smaller market maybe? That still doesn't explain it.

I have been to Toronto, and I have seen how smoking hot your women are. I think you guys getting only four colors is fair compensation. You can't have it all, now can you?

dorkymork 06-10-2012 01:38 PM

The chrome fender trim looks really hot on the red. The first one I've seen that makes that look like a worthy purchase.

Lightning Red/Firestorm look AMAZING in person. The pictures on here really don't do it justice. I'm considering a Firestorm FR-S if my Galaxy Blue BRZ falls through.

I think you'll have to change your sig! ;)

Turbowned 06-10-2012 02:47 PM

Nah, I'll just swap out the Scion badges with Toyota ones, lol

rcm47 06-10-2012 02:53 PM

I kinda wish I had gotten red for my FRS. White is a little boring now..

KevinDuMa 06-10-2012 05:31 PM

If I could change to red I would as well...very sexy color. SWP is up there though so I'm ok.

DantKR 06-10-2012 09:04 PM

To be honest I had been somewhat conflicted about World Rally Blue for a little while before you told me about the BRZ in SC. I found another WRB BRZ elsewhere, too, so they're not too terribly hard to find if you don't mind a little bit of a drive. The thing is though, once I got to see both Lightning Red and World Rally Blue in person, I was totally unfazed by the blue on a BRZ. It looked like it would need a lot of work to improve the quality of the finish up to where I would be happy with it, and it didn't draw my gaze like it did the first time I saw it on a WRX STI. It didn't look nearly as pearlescent as I had expected it to look, either; it looked almost flat. Red has always been the color to beat when it comes to sports cars, and seeing that red BRZ in person made me terribly conflicted about my decision to order blue. Since I'm moving in a few days and will be spending a lot of money on furniture it doesn't really make sense to also buy a car right now, so the additional wait (if there even is one) compared to my existing preorder will be to my benefit. The BRZ will be rare enough that having the same color as someone else is a non-issue.

DantKR 06-10-2012 10:44 PM

I feel the opposite, I can't stand red cars :x lol. The granite/asphalt color is really nice. I just love blues.

And this is why we have a whole slew of awesome colors to choose from! (unlike the Canadians :iono:)

DantKR 06-10-2012 10:48 PM

It's all good, I didn't want you to copy me anyways!(lol...)

industrial 06-10-2012 10:56 PM

Weird how people can have totally different reactions to WRB. I've never heard it called flat before though. I think it's an amazing color. It can go from sky blue to really deep blue to purple depending on the light. I love it. Red looks as nice though. This car really does look amazing in red. At least we have nice vibrant colors to chose from!

Subie 06-11-2012 06:26 PM

Has anyone else changed color, trim, etc.? My salesperson doesn't know whether the order can be modified or if it must be cancelled and resubmitted. We're waiting to hear from the district rep. to confirm the steps that must be taken. It's my understanding that the old order must be cancelled and a new one placed but I haven't been able to confirm it.

industrial 06-12-2012 08:18 AM

I don't think you can change your order. I had ordered a premium model and changed my mind the next day and ordered a limited. The dealer seemed a little annoyed and let my first order go through and placed another order instead of changing anything. So 2 WRB 6mt cars came in a row, a premium that went unspoken for and a limited. This dealer had a massive allocation though, if you are going through a smaller dealership, chances are they will have to cancel and re-submit. Your other hope is they can swap for a red.

DP82 06-12-2012 01:59 PM

Sorry dude, wish I could say they can switch the colors and trim levels in the same order, but they cannot. They have to cancel the order and start from scratch... I lost (1) spot in that line because I jumped trim levels - that was back in March though. I would keep a sharp eye on web information as I've seen quite a few delivered cars sit unclaimed. *crosses fingers* The race is on to see if you happen to get yours before me :P (would not surprise me!)
