what lugs nuts you guys are running?

I completed my first track event the other weekend, and my lug nuts were completely falling apart when taking them off. They were NRG Lugs, but damn.. didn't expect it to be so bad. Makes me wary of aluminum lugs now. I was wanting opinions on OPEN ENDED lugs for track use. I have extended studs so open ended is a must.

NRG uses really crappy materials. If material and finish QC aren't done correctly, bad things can happen. At this point, you are better off running chromoly lug nuts.

I use CSG aluminum lug nuts for 30+ track events so far. Highly recommended.

WedSport steels on ARP studs. Ran alloys at first but kept stripping them at the track because of improper over torque

Chromoly you can be an idiot on torque settings. Aluminum is a little more ductile so torque settings must be careful. When using anti-seize, we back off on the torque settings by 5 to 10 ft-lbs. The resulting torque is about ~75ft-lbs. This has worked very well. :)

Muteki SR48's.

Cheap Gorilla steel lugs.

Cheap Gorilla open end lug nuts. They're steel but still pretty lightweight. I don't like the Mutekis because they're heavy.

Im using McGard lugs nuts, seem to be working fine for me. Changed my wheels probably 20 times last summer with no problems. 10+ autox events and 1 track day.

Do the CSG Lug nuts work with rpf1's to use it on track?

Amuse Titan lugnuts, best lugs and lightest lug nuts on the market.

Have you tied taking the rust off? Just brush off and oil. This reduces your torque seting but rest assured its the best way to keep your lug bolts in the holes.

vroom4 02-14-2015 01:34 PM

The cheapo muteki lugs, we have our wheels on and off 100 times a year, never a damaged lug or nut.

Do you guys have a eta on when they might be available?

Used to use project kics R40s; they all broke after a year of use. Back to steel muteki nuts.

Which ones?

ddeflyer 02-17-2015 04:23 PM

I am using: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QHMS5S"]Amazon.com: Muteki 32905B SR Series Black 12mm x 1.25mm SR48 Open End Lug Nut Set, (Set of 20): Automotive[/ame]

They are nothing fancy but so far they haven't caused me any trouble. I would recommend getting some extras (helps that they are cheap) as all it takes is someone walking by and accidentally kicking one as you work to ruin your day.

Oh the aluminum ones. We're in process of testing out a different type of aluminum alloy so once that's finalized, we'll have them ready to go.

willnigguhwassuh 02-17-2015 06:21 PM

muteki extended lugs!

Sammakko 02-17-2015 06:30 PM

Kics/kyokugen lugs. I've used these for over 10 years on multiple cars with extremely good results. Never stripped or broken any, never broken the wheel key. Highly recommend.
Look up kyokugen on ebay.

Advan chromoly nuts.

WORKS lug nuts

Over the years we've enjoyed the lightweight aspect of several different brands, but have been turned off when they don't last very long, required special tools or the special tool fails with repeated use. These were designed with track use in mind first, but also work for daily driving street cars. We have been selling them for over 6 years and have been used on countless street, track and race cars (such as USTCC racecars).

Billet machined from very durable 7075 Aircraft Aluminum that will not gall or bind like other unknown materials most lug nuts are made of. Then they go through a bead blasting and Type III Hard Anodization process which gives them their satin black finish, corrosion resistance and long-term durability.

Muteki SR48 open, on OEM and ARPs.

Joe-G 03-09-2015 02:49 AM

Kics Kyokugen chromoly open ended here. Been really good so far.I dont think I would ever use an aluminum nut unless its from a reputable manufacturer. Even then, they might last long, but they wont look too pretty after multiple abuse.

I just purchased Muteki 32905B SR Series Black 12mm x 1.25mm SR48 Open End Lug Nut Set and ARP wheel studs. I got these because I broke a couple studs changing my wheels back and forth for autox.

Will these lugs work on my stock wheels as well? If not, what are some open end lugs that will work on the stock wheels?

Summerwolf 11-09-2015 09:24 AM

Gorilla here, they look and work great.

SR48's are fine on stock wheels, I run them all winter for my snows.

CatDaddysBBQ 11-09-2015 11:42 AM

I use the OEM ones on my OEM wheels with winter tires, and a set of Gorillas for the fair-weather wheels.

Gear_One_Performance 11-10-2015 11:17 AM

Cheap gorilla steel open ended nuts on ARP studs, They can take a beating and work well for us doing quick tire changes in pit stops.

Not really. They have a tiny bit of surface rust on the outer surface, but nothing on the threads.

owenxguo 11-11-2015 03:18 AM

taiwan brand aluminum lugs, so far so good on both my BRZ and s2000 race cars, I am surprised, I guess torque setting is important.
