Would this android audio system work in a '13 FRS? http://m.ebay.com/itm/331303483814

That thing us running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. I'd stay away from that thing tbh, just for your own good.

I use the Parrot Android Smart because of 2 things, dual Bluetooth connection. I can use my Bluetooth OBD2 and still have Bluetooth connection on my phone for calls and streaming audio. Old version of android yes, but it works.

It will work but you most likely want to smash it after a month of use.

I purchased a cheap double din like that for my s13 a few years ago and it worked for music and bluetooth but the functionality was terrible. The user interface was terrible. The programming was terrible. It was terrible all together.

Leave the stock one in unless you plan to upgrade to a name brand unit.

That runs a Windows CE OS, so stay away. You will need to atleast spend a little more to get something decent.

This is something that I am looking in to.

Why the concern (really just curious, don't read anything into it)? Just about every commercial GPS, and a LOT of radios, run on CE. I don't have any love lost for M$, but I wouldn't avoid a product just because it runs CE, unless I planned to root it.

My concerns are lack of apps and not much dev going on with it, especially with MS going to the new Windows 10 stuff. Atleast with Android, there is always people trying to make the new stuff work on the old hardware.

Link? And what was wrong that made it not fit without modifications? We need to get stuff like this documented :)

OK, makes sense. I don't have a large need for Apps in my car, outside the basic functionality that normally comes out of the box with these devices.

Yea, I can understand that. Aside from torgue, there are not many apps I use(Airdroid is a good one), but I dont want to limit myself since new software gets made all the time.

Yeah I'm not looking for top of line stuff. I just want one that looks good on the car, can start up with the scion or frs logo, and just normal stuff. Mirroring if possible for spotify

prepare to be totally disappointed in operating system, audio quality, screen quality, and quality of construction.

Just get a stock navi unit for cheap. Getting a cheap POS android HU is like getting a first generation android phone in this day and age. gl

What do you define as a cheap POS android HU? To me, 250 to 300 seems reasonable. Although, anything older then 4 for Android is not a good idea.

Spartiduck 02-11-2015 01:18 PM

It does what I want, Looks good, I spend more time driving the car that playing with the deck. we have laws here that prohibit the use of cell phones while driving. I will problie upgrade the speakers and amps later due to sound is not perfect. its made in china.... what else can i say.

OP's link is to a ~$160 unit. My personal experience with these is that they really suck, and are NOTHING like the pictures in terms of picture/screen quality. Bluetooth connectivity issues are likely, Audio may have noise, RCA outs may be low volt and have noise, etc.

You get what you pay for. Of course, you may get lucky w/ a unit that is satisfactory, but the risk is high that you'll want to rip it out and replace it w/ something else within a week of use. IMO, these are just a gimmik for shady used car lots to put into a used car, and really not worth the effort.

Stock BRZ navi units are about $300... car mount for your cell phone is $15. I just use bluetooth of stock system and a car mount, control everything from my phone. No problems there.

Yea, the OP's decks are not promising. I don't like using my phone as I prefer less clutter, but when I replace my deck it will be for a newer android deck that has a good history/reviews.

For me, once you eclipse the 200 mark, you have alot better chance of a decent deck, just have to do your research.

Is the sound an issue with the deck or the speakers? I have heard just upgrading to these decks make an improvement cause you have more control of the sound.

I havn't had time to play with the deck yet, only just installed it, there isn't any form of equalizer that i have found yet.

Well, good to know. Atleast there are plenty of apps available.

The phrase "you get what you pay for" was INVENTED for Android head units.
