money of All my mods = name of item(s) of equal value

Wednesday night I got together with some buddies from the local owners club, and we were trying to guess who had done the most mods to their car from our club. and what they could've bought for the same money for their car+mods.

The point of this thread is not to brag how much you spend but what other "sensible"/"responsible" thing you could've bought. No need to give specific numbers.

For the money I spent on my mods I could've bought:

1) furniture for my house,
2) new kitchen appliances.

The ones who seem most pissed off about my decision are my parents.

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 02-06-2015 09:52 AM

I could have paid for 2/3 of my car when it was new with how far I am into the mods now.

Good thing I am way ahead on paying the car off too.

bigred18 02-06-2015 10:32 AM

I struggle with other activities. I'd like to upgrade my paintball marker, but am building up snowboard supplies. I'd like to invest in car parts, but bought an AR-15. I am now, finally, saving up for car parts.

Decay107 02-06-2015 12:23 PM

Close to a years rent :sigh:

Tcoat 02-06-2015 12:26 PM

Not counting what came on the car from the dealer I have spent about $1.75 so far!

Timmy_Jones 02-06-2015 12:31 PM

Plasti Dip and winter wheels/tires- $550
Exhaust - $300
Tint - $140
Clear Markers - $50
Weighted Shift Knob - $40

Not that much actually. But I paid for the car with cash, so I can't complain.

May spend more this summer.

Flat Black VW 02-06-2015 02:00 PM

too much stuff.....

Really dont even want to try to add all of the stuff up, will just make me think too much about how I spent too much...

campy 02-06-2015 02:03 PM

I've spent about $10k on this car so far. I could have bought an above ground pool full of cheese puffs for that money.

extrashaky 02-06-2015 02:06 PM

I think I've spent about $2000 aftermarket on my BRZ, which is $2000 that could have gone into my Jeep instead. That would have paid for the front half of my lift, or maybe my slip yoke eliminator and axles. My Jeep build is budgeted out on spreadsheets at $22,000. I'm about $10K in at this point. When I'm done, it'll be worth about $15K on a good day. I'm an accountant. I must be crazy.

The BRZ will just have to wait its turn. I'm hoping that by the time I retire it from being my daily driver in 3 years or so, someone will have developed a wicked NA kit for it. THEN I'll spend some money.

malave7567 02-06-2015 02:17 PM

I think I'm close to $4k. Probably should have invested that into the principal balance of the car, but the APR is so low, I didn't. I haven't bought anything for it in a long time though. I honestly feel it is pretty much my perfect DD now, or better said, is how I wish it was offered.
There's only two things I really feel I "need", lower control arms to correct rear camber (reign it back in to -1.0 or -1.5, it changed to -2.0/-2.4 when I put the springs on) and a new front pipe with a high-flow cat to get the most potential out of my tune.

Teseo 02-06-2015 03:26 PM

Just $720 in gas at moment, car came with strut brace when i bough it
still waiting for warranty expire to mod it. I want to hear those who spend about a house in mods

tahdizzle 02-06-2015 03:40 PM

Could have had my CPA done (assuming I passed all sections)

I love the part where my future company already agreed to pay for Becker and the CPA exam costs

tahdizzle 02-06-2015 03:55 PM

Very nice

Kotu100 02-06-2015 04:00 PM

Coulda bought a pound of some medical grade.

Bergen23 02-06-2015 04:11 PM

A down payment on a house so that I can move out of my parents place

BlueDubbinTDI 02-06-2015 04:13 PM

The real question is, how much have I lost in selling my used parts from when I bought it new. I'm at atleast $700 in just that :barf:

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 02-06-2015 04:16 PM

If I break mine down...

Wheels+Tires (3 sets) $4500
Suspension stuff $2700
Brakes $500
Supercharger+Oil Cooler+Exhaust+Tuning $10000
Mudflaps+3M+Weathertechs+Various Raceseng bling $2000

Totaling roughly $19700.

God speed bro. Still need to get the 150, but have starting looking at some problems and I nearly cried.

jvincent 02-06-2015 04:30 PM

Might as well chime in. Looking at @BRZZZZZZZZZZ I don't feel that bad. Sorry man.

Wheels+Tires: $2500 ($3500 if I count the winters, but those are a requirement in Canuckistan)
Suspension stuff: $500 (Only bushings and camber bolts so far)
Brakes: $1000 (Cooked a set of pads and rotors on my last track day of the season or this would be lower)
OFT + OFH: $1200 (Money well spent)
Sharkfin + Raceseng shift knob + OBDII stuff: $400

So, about $5600 so far.

Works out to about what I spend for my golf membership in a year, but most of this stuff will be amortized over the life of the car, so not a big deal.

Akari 02-06-2015 04:36 PM

I'm $2500 or so in between headers, full exhaust, OFT wheels, and a few other mods.

Everything that cheap that I want I pretty much just go out and buy.. It would have just been spent on another car or saved if not spent there.

CPA here. Becker is the way to go. I had to pay for mine myself, but I would spend the money again in a heartbeat because it focuses you in on exactly what you need to know to pass the exam.

Besides, who doesn't want to spend every evening with Peter Olinto?

Having hung out with jvincent, I can assure everyone on this board he will have to revisit this thread many times in the future for an update. LOL.

Defuser 02-06-2015 05:42 PM

Lotta bean counters here. Strong thread topic to thread poster relationship.

I am still under $2,000. Only due to my self restraint. (OK let's be honest; my wife!)

Driver mod is expensive, and a cost I would not have incurred if a drove in a manner the factory would consider "normal usage"

I've got to add at least another $3000-4000 for track days and auto x usage last year alone then...

636 02-06-2015 06:16 PM

I could've bought a 2015 Ford Fiesta, lol
