PTUNING: 2013 Scion FR-S R&D Car

Earlier this week we took possession of a brand new 2013 Scion FR-S (White) w/ manual transmission from a good customer of ours for research and development.

The build will include but not limited to:

*Intake
*Engine supporting components
*Turbo Kit
*Full 3" Exhaust
*Suspension
*Wheels & Tires

Before starting the build, we thought we make some baseline pulls.
Below are the result & some added pics of the FR-S on the dyno:

Bone Stock 2013 Scion FR-S w/ Manual Transmission = 160 WHP @140TQ
(The temperature in the dyno was 82 degree F)

This car is soon to be transformed into a PTFR-S

Can't wait to see what number you can get out of a turbo!

Dimman 06-08-2012 11:56 PM

PTFR-S... sounds like a new Enkei wheel.

Serious though, we had a member here a while ago that highly recommends you guys. (Black turbo tC with your decals.)

Can't wait to see the finished product! Sounds like it's going to be a beast!

Where is Dragon, I thought he would be in on this...

Haven't seen him post in a long time. I think when we started to get the huge amount of noobs he started to get reported because they all got butt-hurt over is rather, ...er 'passionate' style of posting. We were pretty used to it but he probably seriously butt-hurt some noobs.

Too bad. He was pretty much the guy that opened my eyes to Scion's REAL grassroots racing, like PTuning here does. (As in not the stupid show cars, and not the ridiculous racing of the twin winged wonder and rwd tC drift cars.)

He was probably the only guy on here who was happy Toyota made the 86 a Scion in the States lol. That brings me back to the day...

Is PTuning associated with Chris Miller, or was it just Dragon? I forget... the twin winged monstrosity is pretty cool IMO.

civicdrivr 06-13-2012 11:42 AM

In for updates.

Thats a surprisingly healthy hp number too, especially on that dyno.

Video will be posted soon.

Lol I was thinking "Cool! Dragon is back!" just like other members... but it's not Dragon

O'well, welcome PTuning! Nice read & can't wait to read/watch more!

New Picture updates.

We mocked up a GT-3076 with a tial .82A/R turbo on the FR-S to start tackling any type of fitment issues. As of now we have a couple ideas for sizing and piping layouts. I will update this thread with more pictures soon.

ft86-UAE 06-13-2012 03:35 PM

great build guys. but if i were you i will go with comp turbo oil-less you can mount it any where even you can put it under the engine and you wont have any problem with it.

opinion only thanks,

I have a couple questions:

*Are you going to take the "let's find the fuse" route with that big turbo?

*How about a more modest turbo, like a GT2860RS? Obviously this would be intended as a lower-lag street application. The chassis doesn't need a crap-ton of power; 300 HP would be very well balanced when pared with good tires, coilovers, and upgraded brake pads.

*Better yet, have you considered a solution that better fits the character of the car; a supercharger?

Thanks.

Oh! I'd buy a Disco Potato setup, someday.

SnapOv3st3r 06-14-2012 04:05 PM

Heard of this shop too. They build some Time Attack Scion that was pretty sick. This looks like it's going to be very Epic! Look forward to the results.

I think you mean Chris Rado. That's a different guy from World Racing with the twin winged one.

I wonder if I haven't seen his car. Lowered, decals in the windows? If so, he was parked next to my FR-S last night.

Not sure if that would actually run out of steam on the top end, since the FR-S/BRZ rev decently high. I would think you would want a slightly larger turbo to take advantage of the high rpms.

Giant rear wing, giant PTuning on the side of his car. Black with black rims (as of last year). Think he was putting on a PTuning turbo last year. Has alot of track day vids of it. As tC's go it's a pretty serious car.

kayhettin 06-14-2012 04:56 PM

i can't wait to get one too! I am patiently waiting.

Nope, different tC then. This one had a rather tasteful trunk lip spoiler and stock tC rims.

mastertech86 06-14-2012 06:57 PM

i can vouch for Ptuning on what they do....its amazing. their work is art, their customer support is unrivaled, and their products are clearly made with pride.
i have enjoyed the ptuning turbo kit on my car for over 3 years now and never had a problem daily driving my car every day even taking a few trips from florida to NC. and anyone who knows me knows there is not a day that goes by i dont go into boost =D
so needless to say i wont be suprised at all to see anything less than amazing come from these guys =)

Thanks.

The reason for the larger choice turbo set-up up right now is to make sure we design and route the kit, that can support larger frame turbo in the future. Once this car moves in the phase of 2nd hand owners, and built motors. The GT-30 and up frame turbo's will most likely be a popular choice.

The following is a list of the turbos we plane to offer with the kit.

GT-2860RS (tial housing TBD)
GTX-2864 (tial housing TBD)
GT-3071 (tial .64/.82 options)
GT-3076 (tial .64/.82 options)
GTX-3076 (tial .67/.82 options)

Yes I do agree that 350-400hp will be more then enough for 80% of the community. But we would also like to support those customers who would like to go above and beyond that whp number.

To answer your final question? Let me just say, we are not a supercharger type company here.

Couple videos of our turbo kits, and what we do here.

10-4, thanks. Good to see the Disco Potato on the list. That'll be the most rational for customers wanting low-lag street performance and not wanting to build-up their short-block [hopefully].

What are you plans or associations regarding ECU tuning?

Yeah, Dragonitti was banned about a month ago. He's a cool guy and he's also very passionate about his Scion which is pretty fast too. I hope he comes back soon. :-/ I think he was going to keep his FR-S as a DD since he already has a stripped tC.

Also Dragonitti is out of Nashville, is Ptuning only in Virginia?
