oil catch can?

hello! ive got a few bucks to spend and was wondering if an oil catch can was worth the buy? not too sure as to how it helps. From what i understand it redirects the air from somewhere in the engine and goes into the can as steam and the rest of the air goes back into the engine.

If someone could give me a little more insight that would be great! and if its also worth the buy.

was thinking of getting myself thecusco one!

IMHO, it's efficient and a should-have if you're running some sort of forced induction system... Otherwise, waste of money.

Wayno 02-01-2015 11:09 PM

The cusco one is unbaffled afaik and is purely for ricers. Try saikou michi or mishimoto or another good baffled type. You need single can NA, dual cans FI.

I have a Saikou and like it. It defenetly catches oil and I don't have forced induction. Cheap insurance in my opinion. I would suggest a quality unit to anyone and everyone.

To be fair, it depends how you drive it. If you're going to race the engine alot then yes, if you just drive it as a commuter, then no.

I don't race my car and I still catch oil. It isn't much, but every drop that doesn't get into my intake is a good thing.

which style can are u talking about? cusco has 2 different styles? im just wondering because im going FI and not sure if this is the right style of can i would need

I have the cusco so I guess I must be a ricer (by the way I find that pretty racist). Despite not being baffled, it is catching a considerable amount amount of blow-by gas and worth the money imo.

I run the Mishimoto catch can, however, i vent to atmosphere, and had the extra port to the intake manifold capped off

Radium.

Are you referring to the new FT86 kit? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76906

If so, how do you like it?

It still catches oil even if the car was driven as commuter.

Yup.

tjohnson104 02-03-2015 01:32 PM

I have the crawford ones and sti strut bar.... They don't fit together at all.. Might have to sell the can

Kotu100 02-03-2015 01:53 PM

Radium's are way overpriced for an unbaffled CC design. If you're gonna spend the money on a CC system get a proper one that's baffled.
Pretty much any catch can that uses "stainless steel filter media" is cheap. Just go get a soda bottle and poke 2 holes and stuff it with steel wool, same thing.

Mishimoto hands down for function, quality, and looks.
