Mega Meet Brain Storm

@HATED1 and I were talking back and fourth and We think its time to arrange another mega meet. Since last year fell apart might as well get an early jump start on it.

So, I'm am reaching out to you guys for help.

Dates-
Locations-
Activities (cruise, scavenger hunt, bbq, or just kick it in a location)-
What is the furthest distance you guys would travel-

Activities Suggested-
Swap meet, Cruise, Scavenger hunt,BBQ

(Idk how many of you guys would be up for a cruise after an hour drive. I would hate to drive in the car again for another 30 minutes)

Decay107 01-27-2015 04:36 PM

Dates- Sometime before the middle of September to limit out chances of weather

Locations- Maybe a bit north or west of Vancouver, some good roads around there.

Activities (cruise, scavenger hunt, bbq, or just kick it in a location)- I'd be down for any of the above

What is the furthest distance you guys would travel - Depends on what is planned. Maybe an hour for a BBQ or just hanging out, further for a drive

geezer86 01-27-2015 04:43 PM

Include a swap meet we all have parts laying around.
Early summer at the latest to avoid conflict with the big car events like Monterey

East of vancouver might be a bit steep for the guys up north. But if they are willing to commute.

The 503 loop starting in Vancouver and heading through Battle Ground, Amboy, around Lake Merwin to either I5 or back down on NW Pacific Hwy through La Center is a great drive and takes about 2-2.5 hours. Great side road up to Camper's Hideaway right outside of Amboy too.

That looks like a great route. But for a meeting spot for the guys in seattle. They are looking at almost a 3 hour drive. Trying to make it convent for both Washington and Oregon owners.

Could alternate between Portland and Seattle annually. This year Oregon, next year northern Washington

thehapaone 01-27-2015 07:08 PM

Lunatic 01-27-2015 07:28 PM

THIS!!!

Although we did look into the rental costs for a private track day last year and found the overall price to be far too high.

Depends on how it's set up. I organized a private track day 2 years ago for the west coast Mini Cooper convention and it ended up being $200 a car for the whole day on the track.

I'll look into it.

Lots of imports from Vancouver BC come down. The craze for skylines is real.

So there is always Track Day/Cruise. the trickiest part will be finding a location willing to house the event. Assuming we get 40-50 cars it shouldn't be too bad but more than that we should look into getting a private location set up. Also things to think about are sponsors, giveaways, etc I'm sure a lot of us have stuff we can throw in for raffles and giveaways but its always nice to have Vendors/Shops in on the festivities.

Lunatic 01-27-2015 08:50 PM

Well, I just talked to Brenda at ORP and the cost has gone up quite a bit since I rented the track.
Weed day event with insurance, Medics, and 5 corner workers, Open running all day with lunch break between noon and 1, $5900

Weekend would be $8400.

Yes, that's a lot of money
BUT
50 cars would be $168 a car on a weekend, something to think about anyway.
Organize a 2 day event with a starting points at Seattle, Portland, and Calif, on Friday or Sat, and have a track day on Sunday.

Only thing is, good luck finding 50 guys who would actually be interested in tracking their cars. Last year I think we had 10-12 interested depending on cost.

Or maybe we just need 30 or so guys willing to fund a track day for the 15-20 of us that actively do take our vehicles to racetracks :D

HATED1 01-27-2015 09:14 PM

Just a heads-up guys, I am currently in the process of securing an area for us to have a large meet. The location would be between Seattle and Portland.

This meet would require a 30 car commitment on my part (which I dont think should be an issue) as our regular monthly meets range from 8-14 cars in the surrounding areas.

The ideal plan is to have other groups have "pre-meets" say the Portland group @Chen organize in a local area then meet down at the designated meet spot. There will be other groups that will meet as well. For example @Missy will take care of the Tacoma area then meet at the designated meet spot. Same goes for Seattle, etc.

When all the groups have joined at the designated "meet spot". We will convoy slowly and safely to the area where we will possibly have food, a little car show consisting of our cars, meet and greet, raffles, and just plain old conversing with owners.

This is still all in the works however. I like the idea of everyone bringing parts that they are interested in selling like the "swap meet" deal so that will be incorporated as well.

Ideally, i'm trying to get this to be an 86 meet like they have in California,

I don't want to disclose the area quite yet, like i said, it's still in the process.

Lunatic 01-27-2015 09:23 PM

Sounds good.

Wait @Missy is still alive?

stockysnail 01-27-2015 09:35 PM

I'd love a track day but agree we wouldn't be able to get enough of us. I would say an autox event would be easier and cheaper to get a spot for and am up for that as well. I have various trinkets I'd be happy to give to a raffle. I have various new shirts, a few hats, and other knick knacks I've collected from various companies.

Maybe we could raffle off my car as the grand prize. $100 each and sell at least 250 tickets. All the money would go to me of course, or at least the first 250 tickets sold. ;)

How about a mid point with a Scenic Drive between Seattle and Portland. Like South Bend, WA.

What do you think?

Lol and the people who don't wanna track?

RobertPaulson 01-28-2015 04:20 PM

the hard part about organizing a track day is that you have to worry about the people bailing at the last minute, or the people who commit but don't pay. its much easier to set up a big meet at a location that is free to stop at than it is to get people to show up to something that they have to pay for. Cruises or things like cars and coffee get better turnouts for just that reason.

this is part of the reason I hate trying to set up meets (and why i haven't on here) for ever person who is happy there are 5 telling me how shitty of a job i did or how i could of done better or how i didn't accommodate them.
