Do you think there will be another Series.Blue release for 2016?

I really wanted a Series.Blue but just my luck, they are all sold out. Seems like it was a freaking hit! Do you think they will sell another special edition BRZ this coming year (2016 MY)?

Knowing my luck, the BRZ-STI will come out after I've bought my BRZ... I've been waiting for it for 3 years!!!

Fakk 01-21-2015 07:59 AM

Check the Cars For Sale/Trade in Members Classified, I've seen a few in there, if you don't mind one with a few miles. Not sure on the 2016. As far as I know, and don't quote me on this, the BRZ STi isn't going to happen.

Last time I was at the Dealership they had two series Blue. Check Marin Mazda Subaru to see if they still have them. Call and ask for Tomas.

Jfheisenberg 01-21-2015 09:18 AM

I got lucky last week and I was able to get series blue BRZ (i can't wait to pick it up next week! )

As far as the 2016 brz series blue edition, it will be hard to know.... I asked two different Subaru dealers and they are either not sure or dont believe its going to happen.

One the dealers that i went, asked a Subaru district manager and he said that production for all 2015 brz series blue was DONE, so who knows what subaru is going to do next...

So as far as i know all the brz series blue are in the states already and they are either sold or waiting to be.

Stang70Fastback 01-21-2015 09:20 AM

They won't do a Series.Blue again. They already stated it was a limited production run. They'd piss a lot of people off who paid a slight premium for an exclusive car if they turned around and made more.

If anything they'll do what Bugatti or Zonda do and just come out with another, different special edition.

pinski 01-21-2015 09:45 AM

They aren't sold out - you may just no longer be able to order one. Many dealerships still have them in their inventory, I found a couple like this after looking for less than five minutes:

White Series.Blue

Also, contact your dealer. They may be able to dealer-trade for something too.

spicyricecake 01-21-2015 09:48 AM

I'll be real pissed if they made a STI trim more than re-releasing series blue to be honest... I'd have purchased the STI trim over S.B.

Turbo95eg6 01-21-2015 12:34 PM

God, I hope not. They should at least have the option not to have the blue interior.

I LOVE THE BLUE INTERIOR

That's because you like the color blue. Many people like me take great length to avoid it at all costs, especially in a sports car.

tobin 01-21-2015 01:46 PM

2016 will be Series.Yellow. Mark my words!

Jesse36m3 01-21-2015 01:49 PM

Just wait for the Series.Red this year.

Will it have blue calipers?

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 01-21-2015 08:14 PM

I want a rainbow unicorn series next...

I like the blue stitching, but the seats and steering wheel inserts are a buzzkill...

I'd like to see a tan/saddle option, but I guess we're stuck with the black base with inserts...

donoman 01-22-2015 01:09 AM

To be honest, I don't like the blue interior either. But what I DO want are those aero body parts and underbelly panels. Black wheels wouldn't hurt either, and they seem to be lighter so why not?

In 1994, Mazda made an "R package" Miata with no power steering, windows, cloth seats, etc. It came with a Torsen rear diff and it was really coveted eventually by Spec Miata racers looking to stay stock. It had Bilstein shocks, front and rear lip/diffuser, etc. I had one, never regretted paying more for it because when I sold it, someone else also paid more for that package. That's how I feel about the Series.Blue

Luckily for you the aero, wheels, and under panels can be purchased separately. IMO the series.blue isn't really that special to me as there are no real performance upgrade changes.

Eh, it was cheaper than buying a Limited and adding the exterior parts that I wanted anyway. The interior and rarity are a bonus.

x1UP 01-22-2015 03:29 PM

I don't believe they are going to make another one to be honest. I have one and I absolutely am lucky to have one!

Jfheisenberg 01-25-2015 01:53 PM

I'll just ask here just not to make another series blue thread.

I been wondering if Subaru really only did 1000 series blue edition for 2015, Or was it only a marketing type thing to sell the car faster ?

Stang70Fastback 01-25-2015 04:00 PM

It was definitely just marketing hype. They actually sold a lot more Series.Blue vehicles, just without the blue interior or aero kit. And they called it the Limited. And they even sold a more stripped out version called the Premium. That's the lightest of all the Series.Blue models.

If caught, they could be fined and sued. I doubt they would chance it...

Now that I have my FR-S, I really love it. I'm hoping they do come out with a 2016 Series.Blue next year, because I'll be first in line to buy one. I've never bought a car brand new but this might be the one.

I honestly don't think that they would make one. That's all Scion's deal with the Release Series. Good luck though! It'll be interesting!

GreenMonster 03-22-2015 01:17 PM

I think the "special editions" will continue, but there won't be another series blue edition. Like scion, subaru will probably continue with their own special editions since they do increase interest and sales of brzs.

carma143 03-22-2015 03:37 PM

Maybe they'll have a Series.White.

zigzagz94 03-22-2015 03:56 PM

Like others have said probably not another "series blue" per se, but there have been "special" editions every year since the car started ( 10 Series, Monogram, Release Series 1.0, Series Blue, etc.) so I expect that trend will continue throughout the life of the car.

As for when we could see something...keep in mind that the Tokyo Motor Show only happens every other year and this year has one.

The Japanese manufacturers take great pride in introducing big things on their home turf. The original FT-86 concept debuted at the 2009 show and the production version dropped at the 2011 show.

All rumors point to the Supra's return in 2017/2018 leading me to believe that the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show will be all about the Supra. Subaru has already shown the new WRX and STi. What else does Toyota and Subaru have to wow the crowds?

The developers originally stated that this platform would be on a longer than usual model cycle leading us here to believe possibly a 8-10 year cycle. If those numbers hold true, then we could reasonably expect to see at this year's show either a face-lifted 86 for next year or a special edition 86 before the refresh in 2017.

More recently, Subaru and Toyota have said that they are preparing an all new model for release in the next year or two. It looks to me like they have basically abandoned this platform in favor of that development.

Originally, they also said this car would get power bumps over its lifetime, but that doesn't seem to have happened. Given that 2016 is the last chance for a midcycle refresh, and given the lack of any news about a big NYIAS release, that again leads me to the conclusion that they will just keep stringing this version out with special eds.

It's a shame to me, as I would have bought an upgraded BRZ or FRS. At this point, I have given up on it.

donoman 03-31-2015 12:10 PM

Let's remember that the S2000 AP2 came out in the 5th year of production. The car went from a 2.0L to 2.2L. Ride quality got better and it got torquier. Then what happened? People bitched that the handling wasn't as good as the AP1, the motor wasn't as revvy, etc. Actually the same thing happened to the original Moata which came with a 1.6L in 1989 and then was refreshed in 1994 to the 1.8L. Still a slow car but some people like the 1.6L better for some reason.

If you've driven a BMW 325 vs 330 you will also understand that power comes at a price. Weight. The 325 handles so much sweeter than the 330.

Personally I do want more power but that's not going to fix this car if you're a speed freak. It's a drivers car and the new Supra will address the power crowd. If the engineers can do it without adding weight I'm all for it.

A limited edition with some functionality would definitely be welcome. In 1994, Mazda released the Miata R Package. It had no power steering, locks, windows. Seats were cloth. It had an aero front, rear lips and rear diffuser. Handling was amazing and they are coveted cars in the racing crowd. Upgraded suspension on Bilsteins.

I had one. That's what the '86 special editions should be like. (Edit: damn it I already posted this 2 months ago LOL senior moment)

ChrisTofu 03-31-2015 09:34 PM

Did you hear the rumors?

DSOmegaX 03-31-2015 11:27 PM

You can always just build your own. It's just the lip kit and the wheels unless you just have to have the blue accented interior.

keonigt 04-06-2015 02:59 AM

I'm hoping theres a new special/limited series again also. I wanted to get the yuzu series 1 from scion but I currently wasn't in the market for a new car. I will be in the market for a new brz/frs in june and hopefully a special series is out again.
