How often do you powerslide your car?

I seriously do it at least 3-4 times a day. Usually twice going to work and one or two times leaving work.

I leave for work around 430am so almost no one is on the roads in my suburbs, I do it once there almost every morning. And my workplace is in a rural area with very little traffic so I do it again there, driving to and from work. Its so damn fun with this car.

Also, its very easy to do with on an automatic FR-S (with traction control and VSC turned off of course).

Its all about the Scandinavian Flick.

Kryptik319 01-16-2015 06:22 PM

Depends on my mood and how the roads are. There's also the occasional accidental slide (coming from a FWD car I'm not used to the oversteer (awesome excuse to tell the officer who pulled you over if anyone is wondering.))

brandonblt2 01-16-2015 06:24 PM

In before memes...

But hmm yea maybe once or twice a week its even easier in a manual since we can launch I can do it with all the aids on.

Tromatic 01-16-2015 06:33 PM

At every (safe) opportunity. Oddly enough, it's safest after the "pedal dance" because the nanny interferes even if it's "off". Having TC kick in and cut power when you are expecting the slide to continue is dangerous.

Ddreder 01-16-2015 06:45 PM

If I find a nice corner I like to practice my braking drifts while heel toeing but now that I have my winter tires on I try not to spin the tires unless its on snow or ice so that I dont shred the soft rubber.. I am already worried about a rallycross I signed up for this saturday since I was expecting snow but it looks like were only getting rain.. I almost just want to ask them if I can bring my miata since it does better in the rain anyhow.

Also on a point of snow drifting I must say this car gets REALLY sideways and very quickly too. All I can say is thank the toyobaru gods that they put enough steering angle to correct with otherwise I cant imagine how many times I would have spun out.. :(

Jond63 01-16-2015 06:52 PM

Just did it this morning on my way to work! RWD FTW!

Seriously -- when people complain about lack of power, I think, "What? It power slides just fine!" Haha -- power slides were the main reason I wanted this car, everything else is just gravy.

I also do it at 4:30 am like op. My work consist in delivering tofu to a hotel near in the mountains,
so i need to through the mountain pass. Im doin this for about 5 years and i know
every corner and i try to make my job fun so i started to swing the car at every corner.
Yep, i drift without ruin the merchandise. I dont aprove reckless things in the public road

do the nannies interfere even after we hold down the TC?

I was under the impression they do not kick in and cut power..

Sorry, have to go to the manual for the answer, but IIRC TC, even selected "off" comes back at 20(?) mph or when you have busted traction.

The "pedal dance" is the only way, other than pulling the fuse, to turn off all the nannies until re-start.

BRB....

ETA: From the BRZ PDF:

If only the TRAC system is turned off, the TRAC will turn on when vehicle
speed is more than approximately 31 mph (50 km/h).
If both the TRAC and Vehicle stability control (VSC) systems are turned
off, automatic reactivation will not occur when vehicle speed increases.

Hmmm. My car (AT) will show all nannies off, but will take control. Perhaps I have a problem! I did have a recurring trans CEL last year. I do know, however, that the "pedal dance" turns all nannies off.

BlackMonarch 01-16-2015 07:09 PM

Once a day. Big sweeping right hand curve in to my neighborhood.

IS this real life?

ninedice 01-16-2015 07:21 PM

If it is wet or snowy, at least once a drive (I only drive it once or twice a week tho). If it is dry, never.

AtlasMick 01-16-2015 07:23 PM

As often as possible. Just put snow tires on my car though, and its a bit more frightening.

Even with them all "off" with the buttons there are still some overrides that kick in if the car thinks it is slipping toooo much. Pedal dance kills that urge it has. No problem.

Sharp, short, highway on ramps are my friend!

Can you reference that? The manual says that off is off (the three second thing) and won't reactivate. Mine does, in a most obvious way. Somewhere around here is proof that the nannies are never totally "off" (dance or fuse the exceptions) but damned if I can find it.

Could it be an MT/AT issue?

If you just press the TC button quickly, it will deactivate until you hit 20mph(?). Primarily this is used for snow starts and the like. If you hold the button, it will remain 'off', but as you mentioned only the pedal dance or removing a fuse shut it off completely.

Here's your 14-page proof:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25494

Also, it should be noted that even with pedal dance, you can still trigger "ice mode" if you somehow are hard on the brakes and run into a complete loss of braking power (aka going offroad or hitting oil) situation.

Never mind Mav is just that much faster!

Bergen23 01-16-2015 08:26 PM

I turned off my traction control by holding the button, came in hot into a corner and almost spun it into a ditch after starting to slide. Nothing kicked in to save me except for some counter steering and a loss of momentum

Same-same using the owners manual "three second" rule which says all off. Next time I go to the dealer I'll bring it up. And yes, the dude I go to at the dealer is an FR-S owner and hooligan too. Lucky, I guess.

Same here -- hooning around it sure seems that in mine I can slide, spin, and lock up the brakes all day with holding both buttons down until all the lights come on.

Tcoat 01-16-2015 09:30 PM

Hey wait a sec here guys, the only answer to the OPs original question is: Only when I am on a certified track under controlled conditions!

CatDaddysBBQ 01-16-2015 09:37 PM

Constantly. Rarely is it more than a small slide of a few degrees, but I've gotten so used to doing it, it's become habit and just part of the way the car drives. I'm not talking huge sideways drifts, that's what snowy parking lots are for.

But let's just say "inducing oversteer"??? Every single chance I get. It's 1/2 the reason I bought the car.

themadscientist 01-16-2015 10:32 PM

The car has no power, this is impossible.

Yes of course! That is why you have to evoke the power of Greyskull!

themadscientist 01-16-2015 11:18 PM

I'd rather invoke the power of Sparco and Advan.

Not if I can prevent it!
Damned "my car is cursed because things happen when I drive it" threads!

But it's true. Since I started driving mine I've noticed the tread getting thinner and thinner, especially on the back tires.

I thought I saw someone post a TSB but the search function on this site sux.

Now that you mention, it over the last two weeks I noticed that all my windshield washer fluid has disappeared!
Not sure if a curse, defective or if somebody is jealous and vandalizing my car!

I think I should start a thread and see if anybody else has the same issue. Also going to have my wife hide in the back seat next time at the gas station and if she sees somebody pour fluid into another car we will know it was them.

I'll ask my wife if she'll help me. Suggest starting a poll so we can look for a trend.
