Insurance questions, and share your cursed experience!

I feel like this car is cursed, i think this will be the third claim I will be making since July of 14.

After second day, I had rocks flying to my wind shield but no Biggs nothing cracked. After a month and a half I was parking outside my gf's work place at 2am and my car was kicked. 7k worth of repair. After getting it back from the shop for a week I got into an car accident with an asshole taxi driver. SF is so damn ridiculous.
Now I'm afraid I will have to claim another for being keyed.

I had a civic before this, no problem what so ever except that one time I got hit. After 2 years of driving. I have a clean driving record never had speeding/stop sign/red light tickets whatsoever except parking of course.

After I got this car I been getting pulled over (luckily never got ticketed for), stared at and followed at by cops.

Here comes the question.
Bought the car in July 20, made a claim for comprehensive claim(vandalism) in September and I got it back after a month and a week later I got into an accident and claim as collision, I got it back around end of November. And now it's mid January, can I claim for another comprehensive claim? Will I get dropped by my insurance next year? I have AAA

Feel free to share your cursed stories below

I feel that this is the 3rd "cursed" thread in a very short period of time!
The car is low it will get hit by stuff.
Why is every single accident on here is always some other "assholes" fault?
People's other cars would have had things happen to them as well you just didn't notice/care.
People buy these cars then complain because they get "noticed"?????
If you get pulled over you had to have done something not the car.
People can be jerks and damage stuff both on purpose and by accident.

It is a freakn' car people if you drive it shit will happen.
Enough with the "cursed" crap already.

jdubious 01-13-2015 10:03 AM

I had a friend with a civic. It got wrecked three times(not her fault), sideswiped while parked on the street by a hit and run driver and the oem wheels stolen off it. All in a couple of years.

I get pulled over pretty often now, I'm cruising 65 on the freeway and cops follow me after I get off and make a turn, their lights come on and ask me how old am I? Did I drink? And the questions go on, then they say you're free to go, drive safe!

Buy a high profile car = getting profiled!

I am 55 years old and the 3 times I have spoke to cops the first question out of their mouth was "is this your car?". There for my avatar statement.

So you look like Flanders and apparently cops think you stole the car every time you get pulled.

Yep that pretty much sums it up! http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80259
Have seen at least half a dozen cops pull in behind me on the road and busily start punching their computers in their cars. When my record comes up and they see age and perfectly clean record they just drive away.
Sort of like reverse profiling!

I have a little cursed story of my own.. (not that the car is cursed.. Calm thyself tcoat! lol)

Anyways cruisn home from work and of course when I am trying to relax with the cruise control set a flippin deer bolts across the road and nails me in the driver side fender and rolls down the side of the car. $6800 worth of damage later and my car looks mediocre.. The body shop did a terrible job color matching the side of the car to the bumper.. I had barely had the car 2 months and then it had it sit at the crappy autobody shop for over a month.. Needless to say I was pretty depressed about the fr-s by the end of it. The only upside was that I got to drive my miata for a month straight and it reminded me how much fun that car is.

Here is a pic right afterwards

Hit a deer with a Geo Metro convertible once. Pretty sure he didn't even notice. Totaled the car though.

Here's mine after 2 only 2 months ownership with 8k of damage from a deer. Also had to deal with body shop issues. Stuff happens. I would call your insurance and see what they say about another claim. I don't think you will get dropped though, rates may just go up due to so many claims in a short period.

fito68 01-13-2015 09:40 PM

love dealing with insurance. Normally have always had the same shop do my cars and they ask for oem parts while instaling some of that good aftermarket parts. Once in my Z I fucked my suspension up and got KW coils for like 300 bucks extra. SO I guess yall just need to hustle better haha

I heard it goes up tremendously, but the shop say insurance won't raise since being vandalized is not my fault.

By the way, that is some massive deer, you must have killed it

From what I've read, comprehensive claims usually won't (in many cases can't) raise your rates, but sometimes having a certain number of claims during a certain time period will regardless of their type. This of course varies depends on so many factors like laws, and the particular insurance company.

It was a big deer. It hit so hard that the left front fender was also bent.

ntron1 01-14-2015 12:04 AM

The problem is not your car, it is the communist state you live in. The solution to your problem is to move to a more civil part of the world.

It depends. Prior to the expiring term, have you had many claims? But it depends on the payouts of those claims. Comprehensive claims USUALLY don't count against you, even if there are multiple ones, just as long as there aren't a string of significant losses. When I was on the sales side of insurance, I'd see people who had a ton of comprehensive claims without it affecting their eligibility.

Owning a FRS/BRZ in California, particularly San Francisco is a curse and a blessing. 95% of it is cursed due to the idiot lawmakers and corruption going rampant in the government. One of the head of the bicycle coalition organization in san francisco also works for the SF MTA. Thus you see "super random" and "lack of common sense" bicycle lanes all over San Francisco.

the 5% blessing are the great roads outside of the city to make you forget about the banana republic everything has become.

WesleyG 01-14-2015 01:37 AM

since deers appear to be so dangerous, Why not get a deer whistle?

http://deerwhistle.com/

It does not say thats it guaranteed to help, only that it 'may prevent deer collisions'

lol on the upside when you going fast enough it may sound like your cah is turbo bruh!

I know some of my colleagues that travel alot into the karoo and other mining areas have them on there bakkies ( south african for pick up) and it helps alot with buck collisions, At night it seems they are attracted to the vehicles lights and run straight into the car

As average it's about 7k per claim but I only had one comprehensive and one collision, I need to make another one soon. Insurance is paid from 7/21/14 to 7/21/15, the whole year is set. I heard that the law states comprehensive claim can't raise price on insurance Cuz it's not your fault but... They can drop you.

Not to mention all the one way and busses only lane that everyone goes on randomly. Drivers ignoring the road signs makes driving the city even more f'd up

It is kind of hard to tell in the picture but the fender is mashed which bent the hood and the deer rolled up the A pillar caving in the windshield (and the A pillar). Also it wrecked the door (which had to be replaced) and put two huge dents in the rocker panel and then to finish it all off it left a nice leg imprint in my quarter panel.. They had to paint almost the whole front and side of the car. The only upside was I got them to make the front bumper perfect for only $100. It had two bolt holes from the license plate and the underside was torn up from curbs from the first owner so they repanted it for basically nothing. Although it already has a big rock chip in it again.. I just cant win with new cars.. :(

Deer whistles are proven to be ineffective..

http://www.thevog.net/threads/deer-w...fred-rau.3439/

" ...expert opinions that a Deer’s hearing range is “basically the same as a human being.” In a nutshell, it was found conclusively that common Whitetail Deer hear sounds from 500 to 12,000 Hertz, and, at elevated volumes, sometimes as high as 16,000 Hertz, but never beyond that. Since the absolute top end of a Deer’s hearing range is the same as the advertised absolute low end of the frequencies generated by a Save-A-Life Deer Whistle, the chances of a Deer actually hearing and reacting to one of these devices is virtually non-existent."

Wow 400$?

Cars comes in 3 cylinders? Only heard 4 6 8 10 and so on..

How was mpg on that thing? It looks fun to drive it. And 60hp was not strong enough to hurt a deer?

Wasn't the horsepower that saved him it was the weight. At around 1800 pounds fully loaded there was not a lot of mass to cause damage.
It got around 50 MPG but had a 0 to 60 of 15 seconds and a top speed of 80mph (on a good day with a strong tail wind).
Although it was only 3 years old when I got it there were all ready rust holes right through the inner sill plates, it leaked so much I just left the top down all summer and the engine clattered and rattled so much it sounded like it was gonna blow at any second. I bought it from my cousin who needed the cash right that second so that is why it was so cheap. Cost me another $500 to safety it so really I should have said $900.
It didn't look like the pic there really as he had riced it up pretty good.
Was painted BMW green, had some cheap Enkei rim knockoffs (12 inch) was lowered 1 1/2, all the lights were blacked out and had a spoiler from a Neon on it. It actually looked on the outside like some expensive sports car.
It was a lot of fun to drive actually since even though not fast it was light and handled great through the corners and..... wait a second I have heard this before someplace!

torqdork 01-15-2015 01:31 PM

Sorry for everyone's Bambi encounters. They must be stupid animals, you hardly ever hear of anyone hitting elk around here. Late last year a 400lb.+ black bear jumped out in front of me and started running away but still on the road. After the adrenalin rush I paced him for a few hundred yards at 30 mph staying about 100' behind. He swerved into the forest and was gone.

Tcoat, nice Geo in the pic and a roadster to boot. Those things do suprisingly well in their autocross class in my region but those that show look ready for the crusher and that may be their next stop. Usually only seen 1-2 events before expiring.

Many mfgr's also have or do produce 5 cylinder engines...Audi, Volvo, Ford, Mazda...

snidd111 01-15-2015 04:01 PM

I have the same curse. I've had mine a little over a year but it has spent over 3 months in body shops from being hit 4 times...all while parked.
The first time I was the only car in the neighborhood. She backed out and across the circle and plowed my door and quarter panel.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y...2B19.48.35.jpg
The day after I got it back, hit and run at work.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4...o/IMG_0813.JPG
Then my roommate dropped his motorcycle on the door when he got back from a long trip.
Finally another hit and run at work. I had only had 2 incidents over 5 years with the Camry. One was my fault. Then a hit and run right before I bought the FRS.
Now I'm on my 3rd bumper and the left side has all been repainted 4 times.

Actually, they seem to be almost cockroach durable.
I've seen 4 of them in just the last week still motoring along delivering pizza.
Not as impressive as "The Deliverator", but on the road none-the-less.
Surprising, as it's been a long time since they came out.

You know I would have bet big money that: A) there would never ever be a discussion on the Geo Metro on this forum and B) if there was it would be nothing but ridicule!
There is one down the street from me that is still going strong actually.
The problem with mine was it had been grossly abused buy my cousin before I bought it so had already had most of the life sucked out of it. If it had lasted a bit longer (instead of taking out Bambi's dad) I would probably fixed up the engine a bit more because it really did look pretty cool.

It's a cool looking car even though, I laughed when you said 12inch rims, I woulda kept it too if it was drivable. 50mph, I'll take it over then prius any day! Wonder what will happen to the mpg if you turn that to a hybrid?

Ouch, i feel you brother. When it's in the shop I always wonder what's with the bad luck since I got this car. Then I imagine there's some Fung shui, ying yang crap going on that's not making me and my precious car getting along.

Anything happen to your insurance after all those claims?
