Factory pioneer headunit.

Has anyone hooked up after market subwoofers and amp to the factory FRS head unit? If so how did it sound?

Great. Don't expect a crazy pimp my ride system, but about 100 watts going to a nice 8" works wonders. Easy as hell to setup too.

Tenament05 01-12-2015 11:35 PM

The FR-S HU doesn't have RCA outs... buuut

I hooked my JL 12W6V2 and JL 500/1 amp to the factory rear amp using this thread:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42239

Running a line converter does not compromise quality unless you're running an ungodly amount of power/show rig/care about cutting into your factory harness.

PM me if you are still unsure as what to do

CatDaddysBBQ 01-12-2015 11:36 PM

Best thing about the sub is that you can lower the bass going to the factory speakers and let the sub handle it all. Once you're not trying to make bass through the speakers, they don't sound as bad anymore.

I also replaced the small dash speakers for some added clarity. Really happy considering a small investment of just a few hundred bucks.

The pioneer one (ghetto looking one) does have 1 rca sub output.

forgot he has a '13. I still say run a LOC

I used the 2013 sub output. I worked. If you have that unit you have to enable subwoofer mode with the secret menu. While you are there, set frs mode

I'm thinking about hooking up JL audio cleansweep to my factory like I did with my maxima. Just wondering if you guys know anything about the cleansweeps

That's what I was planning on doing. Just turning my bass down all the way on my settings and let my subs just takeover.

But then you'd forfeit the separate subwoofer control in the head unit. I absolutely wouldn't do LOC unless I had to.

It depends on whether his amp has a remote sub control (which can be more handy). We've determined thru pm though that his setup calls for 1 RCA only so you are right, the correct course of action will be to go into the back of the HU instead of splicing into his harness :)

This forum saves me everytime. Such great feedback and advice. Thanks guys I'll make sure to post some pictures and videos when I'm done

I understand that the Canadian HU is or at least was different then the US. Does anybody know if the 14 Canadian one is indeed different and if we might have an RCA output?
I can find zero info anywhere.

EightSix93 01-13-2015 12:48 PM

I would also like to know.

Tbh the hu pulls super easily. Remove trim plate, remove 4 10mm bolts, pull hu. I would just go and look. It's about a 5 to 10 min job including reassembly.

What about stripping the panels along the inside of the car for the wiring for the subs and amp from the trunk?

I used a jl PWM110-JXWXv2 with a PAC audio in line gain knob. It's simple and does a very effective job with the stock setup. It's also very affordable by comparison to other.. Probably Better.. Options.

Also not difficult, but requires a little bit more experience.. Or time. Rear panels are a tight twisting experience. Harder to reinstall than remove.. Requires pulling some weather striping. It reinstalls easily. There are videos online.

Nice. I'm sticking with my 2 12in Rockford fosgate R2s. If I can hook it up without my cleansweep it would be great

I looked around on YouTube and Google but couldn't find any video guides. If you know of any I would appreciate it if I could get a link
