THE CURSE ON THESE CARS

Love my Fr-s but man it sure is cursed... I have owned it almost 1 year now.. bought brand new, since that time, within 8 days I couldn't avoid a blown semi tire in highway and hit that sucker, that was 2000$ worth of damage, then I had a issue with the wiring harness was loose took it in for warranty repair, they had it for 4 weeks and during that time it hailed on it and did 2400 dollars in damage, then a guy at work door dinged my fender, then just last week as were on interstate on the right hand lane a Taliban truck driver with probably no insurance in a 18 wheeler just decided to turn into my lane as he was texting and driving and bounce my drivers side quarter panel and bumper probably going to be about 2000$ in damage..

I agree that I am lucky the 18 wheeler didn't hit me so hard as to spin me sideways and go underneath this truck but god dang... when will the curse end? Its getting me so frustrated I am thinking about just trading back in on a Tacoma. Oh and this car only has 14k miles on it.. not like I drive it a lot, its a garage queen.

Just venting.. no response required,, I feel better now

Teseo 01-12-2015 01:15 PM

It can be worse belive me.

Tenament05 01-12-2015 01:15 PM

The curse is all in your head mate.

adamg 01-12-2015 01:16 PM

don't buy lottery tickets

Tcoat 01-12-2015 01:18 PM

Ha ha!
I have felt that way about almost every new car I have ever owned!
Between low flying ducks (freakn' ducks!!!) taking out the bumper on my Lancer GTS just two days after buying it and developing a rabid fear of shopping carts I can appreciate where you are coming from!
The sad part is a new vehicle may be even worse!!!!!

Pickleahoy 01-12-2015 01:58 PM

A what truck driver? lol

raven1231 01-12-2015 02:16 PM

WTF is a taliban truck driver? Is that just a bigoted name for a middle eastern truck driver?

N1rve 01-12-2015 02:18 PM

It can only go up from here!

while i haven't had any of those happen to me (knock on wood), i have found myself having to keep my head on a swivel when driving. it seems people just don't see this car! fortunately i'm used to this given the car i came from (944), which was also not well seen. i avoid at least one wreck a week from someone coming into/attempting to come into my lane when i'm either right next to them or in their blind spot, the latter of which i attempt to avoid whenever possible. hope things go better for you.

Caspeed 01-12-2015 03:11 PM

What ever you do don't get a motorcycle.

DAEMANO 01-12-2015 04:16 PM

Life is really hard for the superstitious.

Akari 01-12-2015 04:39 PM

At least a couple times a week I have to avoid potential accidents. Swerving tires in the road, slowing to get out of truck blind spots as they move over, dodging drivers who aren't paying attention, etc.

It's a small car, you've got to be extra alert and aware.

JB86'd 01-12-2015 06:51 PM

Pretty sure it's the Taliban truck driver. He's terrorizing your life

bababooey 01-12-2015 07:00 PM

within the first week I had a couple people pull out in front of me both during day & nite, and not going terribly over the speed limit. i bought a white car to help with visibility being a smaller car.

since then a rock chipped the windshield about day 60 & about day 100 received a couple inch long gash passenger door from a piece of concrete kicked up by some SUV thru construction zone in houston. certainly could have been worse but i originally thought about a curse shortly after purchase.

White does not help at all. It seems like people cannot see anything that is smaller or lower than an SUV, If they can see over top of you then you do not exist!

Ran over a blown truck tire myself. Couldn't be helped what with traffic on all sides. Saw it and whelped no choice here goes. Made a hell of a racket under the car. Got lucky, it only displaced the grill. Popped it right back into place.

Stick with the car. The karma meter is bound to swing back into the gold zone. Sooner or later.

One time when I was a kid, probably 10 years old or so, my mom was taking me to the airport to fly to my dad's place. She was driving, my sister in passenger, and I'm in the back. '86 300td mercedes.
We were driving on the freeway with medium traffic, and we all heard and felt a big thump, as if we ran over something or hit a re-tread. We keep driving though as everything seemed to be okay, and I needed to get to the airport. After a few minutes, the water temp starts to rise and the car is going to overheat. My mom gets on the next off ramp so we can try to figure out whats going on. While we are sitting at the off ramp waiting for the signal to change, a highway patrol car pulls up next to us, and proceeds to look over our car and then give my mom some strange looks. He told us to pull over, which we were about to do anyway.
We found a big wooden stick/handle sticking straight out of the grille. Some idiot gardener/landscaper/handyman dropped a fucking axe off his truck (presumably) in the middle of the freeway. it must have bounced up off of the ground because the head of the axe entered the grille, penetrated the radiator and went straight into the engine block. If the axe had been a foot or so higher off of the ground it would have flown straight through the cabin for sure.

edit - also I ran over a fucking giant rolled up carpet in my fr-s going about 55 on the freeway

Damn! I think I would have trouble running over a rolled up Kleenex so that must have been an experience!

it sucked. the car in front of me hit it, I had zero time to react. I thought there was going to be massive damage but it seems to be okay besides some good hard scraping on the underside and front of the lip and a damaged side reflector.

Um, <cough> ultramarine. You're welcome.

AVodka14 01-12-2015 10:59 PM

I plowed through a square bail of hay on the interstate. I had 2 options.

1.) Swerve into the median and run over all kinds of rock, glass, etc.
2.) Swerve into the middle lane and hit a car.

Took the bail head on and never looked back. Shit happens.

Your car is garage queen with 14k. I have 10k on mine and I bought it brand new in June 2012. It's my DD. I really don't drive mine.

No such thing as CARma.

slim blanco 01-13-2015 12:42 AM

i've rarely hit animals while i've been driving...but i've hit so many damn birds with this car in the past seven months, it's nuts. i hit a hawk the fifth day i had the car. who hits a hawk!? haha. it bounced off my windshield after it threw the crow it took down mid flight under my car. it was quite ridiculous. i've hit two birds previously in all of the cars i had before this one. i can't even count how many i've hit so far with just this one. thankfully, that's it for me though...i have no problem picking feathers out of my engine bay and washing bloody poo off my bumper if that's all it's going to be.

pantdino 01-13-2015 01:00 AM

You've had all the bad luck you were going to have in 10 yrs in this short time period. So you shouldn't have any bad luck for the next 9 yrs.

HotLavaChick 01-13-2015 02:26 AM

have you been a nice boy lately? or nice driver? karma is a bitch..;)

Karnzklutch 01-13-2015 02:33 AM

This car is a total curse for me.

I had never had an accident caused by me or any other drivers, but in the first week of ownership I managed to get rear ended while I was at a complete stop at a red light and also backed into by my neighbour. Apparently the neighbour reversed and turned the wheel almost full lock WITHOUT looking back. I was in my house while this happened.

The curse exists!

86geek 01-13-2015 04:14 AM

Hawaiian style is to throw some hawaiian salt around your car and wave some Ti Leaves around it as to bless the car from evil spirits/karma, etc. :)

LANEY487 01-13-2015 10:05 AM

you guys make me feel a little better, thanks...

To clarify I said Taliban Truck driver because literally he is a middle eastern guy who is a 2 man trucking company called "Taliban Trucking" maybe he did it as a joke.. I dont know.. but he tried to tell me he would give me 200 dollars if I wouldnt call the police and file a report.. and refused to show me his insurance information. So I waited for the cops for an hour and half.. great response time from the Amarillo PD.. thank god he wasnt planning on leaving the scene in that time....He got a ticket and I got his insurance info after 2 hours.

I do love my car, and it was the first brand new car I have ever bought and it sure does seem to be cursed with incidents and stuff, never had this issue on my other vehicles, and babied them all the same. Just after every incident I feel like I should of sprung for the T-Force Tacoma I orginally test drove. I'll hold on to my car for now unless something awesome comes up, I've always loved the FR-S the Tacoma and Tundras.. always been a sports car/ 4x4 toyota guy.
