child car seats that fit behind driver - daddy height 5'10"

hey fellow twin owners, i recently picked up a fr-s and looking for any child seats that have a smaller footprint as we currently have recaro prorides and are way too big to fit behind me. my daughter is 2.5 and on the smaller side.

One I am considering is the Radian R100 considering the steel frame. I also saw one of hte cheaper evenflo but doens't seem as safe as the R100. Any other options from parents of the same height?

For the last grandson my daughter had the Evenflo seat (not sure which model, Majesty or Mactro or something like that) and it was pretty good. Used it in my Lancer sometimes and it had a narrow front to back that fit nicely on the small back seats.

My kid's infant seat however was not near as safe as new ones!

I tried our rear facing car seat on the passenger side (I'm 6'4 and no one can sit behind me) and took my little boy around once.... Then bought a mini-van... bucket seats in the back make it look really difficult to install a car seat correctly, honestly I wouldn't bother doing it I doubt it would be actually safe.

I'm also 5'10 and my daughter is 35.5 inches as of a dr visit a week ago. I just have her sit with her legs crossed and shes fine with that. Unless you're ok with being a little cramped to give her room she needs to sit with legs crossed.

Asked my daughter what the one she had was and I was close! It is a Maestro

The stitching makes it look almost custom made for the FRS!

Why does it have to be behind the driver's seat? There'd be a lot more choices if you fit it behind the passenger seat and move the passenger seat as far up as possible.

I see you have a TSX so its pretty safe to assume your twin is not your main family vehicle.

Well it has to be because my son is 5months and rear facing currently and definitely will not fit behind me, so having a forward facing for my daughter would have a better chance working behind me. And you're right we also own a Subaru outback which is our main family vehicle(fr-s is replacing the tsx). I just need a child seat that works in a pinch if we have to take the fr-s.

That actually goes with the stock interior sort of.

It's times like this in which I'm glad that I'm not a tall guy...one of the very few times anyways...hahaha. If the need ever arose, I could easily fit a front-facer behind me.

As one father to another though, trading in the TSX for an FR-S wasn't the brightest idea with you being 5'10 and not trying to fit a front-facing seat behind you first. Not very responsible, man. For the money, I would've gotten another TSX, 6sp ILX, or WRX if I were in your shoes and much smarter.

That said, you might want to try a Clek convertible seat or the new Recaro Crossover. I've test-fitted them all in the BRZ and they sit lower in the seats than the ProRide, so your daughter's feet might be able to get under the scoop of the front seat. Might need a pool noodle to level off the Recaro and one model of Clek though.

So here it is.. Wifes wagon is getting inspected, I sqeezed the family into my FRS for a short trip. Babies asleep in the rear facing seat, my 3 yr old is behind the driver seat with his legs pulled up a bit (standard Graco seat), and my wife is 5'2. I was pretty much on top of the steering wheel, but it worked.

Cute family. Looks like you even have room for the diaper bag.

quick question how tall are you? so far haven't had to squeeze the whole family in the fr-s yet.. good to see the rear facing works, my wife is 5'2" as well

Do you have any kind of pad between the car seat and seat fabric? I worry about the car seat putting a dent in my alcantara after a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. My Passat wagon has leather and the back seats are permanently marked and dented from the car seats. A few days in the FRS and no signs of any damage. My FRS does not have leather though.
Go for the pad.
