or just go no plates.

but a relocator kit is your best bet

A lot of us in Socal don't run one and haven't gotten any trouble. But I think it depends on the area. I'm in OC but I've heard LA is a little more strict cause of parking security etc.
interesting thread if you haven't seen:

I'd get the kit if you don't wanna get pulled over.

My solution was one of these:

I've had it on for over a year with no issues. Two little holes (1/8") underneath the bumper lip is all you need.

most people with relocators go with the grimspeed - http://www.fteightysix.com/appearanc.../#.VKhZS2TF838

I have not had a front plate on my last 3 cars, since I started driving in 2002. I've been pulled over a few times for various things, parking tickets, etc., and I've never had a cop mention anything about the lack of a front plate.

Perrin makes a good mount that is a little harder to get the plate on than the Grimspeed, but I like the build quality and its a little lighter.

Seems to be pretty common in Cali.
My last car I needed to change the bolts to put a frame on for my front plate. Left it off as the hardware store was only a few blocks away. Sure enough got pulled over for no plate just before the parking lot. Showed him the parts and he laughed and let me off with a warning.

I 3M taped mine. no problems so far after 20k miles...

willypongtb 01-05-2015 06:41 PM

I used 3m double side tape no problem been over 2 years

Get a thin piece of aluminium (thin but not too thin so it doesn't bend) cut smaller than the license plate. Cut a hole in each corner. Zip tie this to grill. Put layering of some material behind the bottom to make the plate perpendicular to ground if need be. If the plate is thick enough you could drill two holes in each corner and drill a recessed channel between them deep enough for a zip tie (1/16th of an inch or so). Now you have a metal surface that is flat, even with zip ties holding it in place, with which to cover in double sided mounting tape to stick your license plate on. After it's on you can't see zip ties.

Seems like a lot of work but it would look clean a.f.

PS you could also use a piece of 1/8 inch ABS plastic. It's tough and sturdy and easier to cut.
