Neighbor calling the cops due to "car shaking ther windows"
Hey everyone I have a Borla UEL header, Manzo catless frontpipe/overpipe combo, and a Manzo V2 exhaust (GReddy Evo 3 replica). I had the cold start high idle tuned out as well (thanks to @Foobar!). I got pulled over while leaving the house by an officer who had been waiting for me to leave the house. Apparently one of my neighbors has been calling his boss daily for two weeks. The cop was really cool and my city has no noise laws, however, I don't want to be that asshole neighbor. I am a pissed however that my neighbor didn't approach my girlfriend or I first however.
Anyway I was wondering on how to quiet the car down the most while still keeping as much gains as possible. I was debating on doing one of the following options and am looking for advice: 1) put the factory catted front pipe back on 2) Pick up an aftermarket high flow catted front pipe 3) Replace the Evo 3 Replica with a more quiet exhaust such as the Q300. So, which do you think would be best? |
go with the Q300.
I'm running a Tsudo UEL Header, Invidia Overpipe, Berks Catted Front Pipe and Invidia Q300. Louder than stock on startup, but not much louder when driving around. |
Quieter catback , the muffler does most of the, well muffling , and cats are where most of the gains are unless your talking about a well designed high flow which wouldnt quiet it down as much as a more conservative catback
I personally have catless and its really not that much louder than stock , the db test was in the 70-80ish range Side note great handling of ur situation! The neighbour shouldve talked to u first |
Another vote on the Q300.
|
I have the q300 and while I don't shake any neighbors windows I do slightly make my own tremble. That cold start is violent, specially at 5am.
|
Definitely go with replacing the catback. The Evo3 (and anything designed from it) is going to be the loudest catback out there.
Q300 or Perrin 2.5 resonated, in my opinion. Also, what did the cop even tell you if there are no noise restriction laws in your locality? Are you able to find out who was complaining about it and maybe make some amends with them to let them know you're not the asshole neighbor they think you are? |

They probably did not say anything because they assumed that you already know how loud your car is, and intended for it to be that loud.
You know those &%@#$ Harley riders who try to rev their engines as loud as they can driving though residential neighborhoods? They bought the Harley and ride it that way because they want to be noticed. Your neighbor probably thought you bought your exhaust because you wanted to be noticed. That's whatever I think when I hear someone with an obnoxiously loud exhaust. |
I ran the Invidia N1 for quite some time with startups at 6 am every morning leaving for work. I cannot believe I did not get a single complaint because the cold starts were nuts. In fact, I got a compliment from my apartment manager saying he used it as his alarm to get up for the morning.

I have a q300 after my stock exhaust got destroyed by road debris. I do not regret that exhaust at all. With your mods and q300 it should be different. Btw no drone for me |

Get a resonated HKS front pipe. |
or option 4)
straight pipe till your neighbor grows a pair (just make sure you have video surveillance recording your car) MUAHAHAHA I would thank you for being my morning alarm. There's a WRX about 2 blocks from me that usually if I hear it in the morning, I know I overslept. |

So you got pulled over for no reason in other words?
|
When I'm worried about bothering the neighbors (cold starts before 7am) I simply start the car, and then IMMEDIATELY idle out the driveway and down the road. I barely have to touch the throttle, and within 10-15 seconds I'm far away from any neighbors that might be bothered.
|
Even with a Perrin resonated exhaust (one of the quieter catbacks), my car is obnoxious on cold startup.
The full setup is UEL catless header, OP, catted/resonated FP, Perrin resonated CBE. I don't want to annoy my neighbors, so I literally start with the shifter in reverse and let the clutch out as soon as the engine fires. Any load on the engine quiets it down, but it's probably still 1-2 seconds of roar when I first start up. My advice would be to get the quietest exhaust possible (maybe Q300) or go back to stock CBE. It's not worth annoying your neighbors and/or dealing with the cops. |

I just hope by replacing the catback it will be loud enough. Thanks for all the input though everyone. |

I forgot where I saw it but some guy covered his tips with some material so it would kill the noise when he had to cold start. Once it warmed up, he removed it and drove off
|
I commend you on trying to be a good neighbor (and a better neighbor than your neighbor who wasn't open and forward with you)...
Since you're trying to actually fix the noise issue I suggest having a bit of fun with your neighbor! I'd send a note telling them that you're in the process of trying to correct the noise issue and that you weren't trying to "shake" things up and present them with a box of these for the "inconvenience." http://www.moldex.com/images/product...s-6800-240.jpg |

Agree, don't stress it or over think it. I'm fully catless from the motor back and it's not loud(compared to others) the bass(drone) on other systems is what causes that window vibration the q300 doesn't have that. |
Go back to stock catback (aftermarket ones have little to no gains), attach JDM exhaust tips. Keep the header and FP/OP for the gains. Problem solved, little to no money spent if you resell your current CBE.

I believe the tsudo catback is at the lower end of the noise spectrum as well.
|
I had the same problem, so now when I start it I quickly put it in gear and it quiet's right down.
|
Sadly some people just don't 'get it' why would you have a loud exhaust it makes no sense?? to them anyway
all it takes is your neighbour having a late night or trouble sleeping and you can see how this type of person would become aggravated I agree approaching them and asking about 'solving' the problem is the right approach you catch far more with honey than you do with a stick |

Update: I found out after talking to the neighbors next to me that it was the one who lives across the street from me. Apparently she is some really old lady who has nothing better to do than to stir up shit. She was also the one who called the cops when we had our house warming party as well. The lady next to us whose husband has a motorcycle and a mustang said she has called on them dozens of times and that they saw her in our yard once looking at my car....Sounds like I should be the one calling the cops on her. Anyway I decided to go with the Q300 as I prefer to keep the peace and respect my other neighbors even if I don't her. Thanks for all of your input, and for your help with the cold start issues Foobar
