Where's a good place to buy a front license plate kit?
Or has anyone actually been pulled over for not having their front license plate?
What's the magnet system?

Just passed 1,000 miles! Merry Christmas! :burnrubber:

What about anywhere in stores, and which stores?

extrashaky 12-25-2014 02:15 PM

There are about 9,000 threads on this site about front license plate brackets. I usually don't tell people to search, but did you even bother?

Look, here's one:

Protip: Don't use the search option on this site. Use Google instead and restrict the search to this site using the "site:" tag, like so:

site:ft86club.com front license plate

retrosmiths 12-25-2014 06:56 PM

Don't do the magnet trick! I did it and now has this indentation on my bumper from the license plate holder, it's fugly and I cannot go back to the no plate/tow hook option. :(

I only do a google search and restrict to ft86 lol. Forum searches are too restricting. I don't how people are smart enough to use a forum, but not to do a quick google search. Someone sticky his protip!

Lol on that note, anyone else expect something NSFW? Good title OP...

I'm not advocating this but, I've been driving my FRS without a front plate since the day I bought and I have not gotten into any trouble without it.

P.S. I don't drive like a jerk or do stupid things.

strat61caster 12-25-2014 09:12 PM

2 years driving in the SF Bay Area over 30k miles with no plate. Got pulled over once for speeding and no mention of the plate by anyone.

I'm entirely motivated by laziness as I don't want to bust out the drill spending ~hour to make sure it's pretty.

D_Thissen 12-25-2014 10:05 PM

Grimmspeed makes a good kit. It screws into your tow hook.

Awesome.
I'm going to do this. No more front plate...

How easy is it for someone to take it out of your tow hook, hey I'm going to tell the cop my tow hook license plate got stolen.

Then you are going to drive around with the cover off the hook attachment and a big hole in your bumper.
Don't lie to them! If you want to take the risk no big deal, but the more you say if you get caught the more trouble you could be in. Throw the plate in the back and if you get pulled over just say you haven't put it on. No big song and dance and elaborate stories, cops are not stupid and do not like to be thought of as so. Be polite and respectful and the worse case would likely be a fix it ticket.
Or ... just mount it and get used to seeing it there. I bet after a week you don't even notice it.

They would have to take 4 screws out (torx bit I believe) to get the plate off. Allen key to take off the bracket (3 bolts). Then a 3/4" socket to unscrew it from the car. More work than it's worth lol

I lived in Dallas for two years, never had a front plate on my G35 coupe. Never got stopped or even questioned about it.

Ponwh 12-26-2014 09:53 PM

In Cali it is possible to get pulled over without your front plate. (Personally it never happened to me, but it has happened to my family members)

x1UP 12-26-2014 10:45 PM

I wish I had tried to go on without a front plate here in NY. But I caved and I installed the front plate kit.

Regret it much? Yes.

Tcoat 12-26-2014 10:56 PM

I got pulled over once because I had a smoked cover on my front plate so seriously doubt would getaway with it for long here.
There are a couple of threads on the subject on here and a pile of guys from California seem to get away with it if you believe what they say.

I was determined not to put a front plate on. Then I got pulled over and given a warning three weeks after I bought the car. Plate went on the next day with the included kit. I hate it, but I've gotten used to it now.

M12Power 12-29-2014 02:26 PM

My FR-S comes with a matching front license plate kit for the front bumper (uninstalled), but I'm still debating whether or not I should ask the dealer to put it on when my license plates come in in the next few weeks. I risk being fined $200 for not having a front license plate if I get pulled over.

I'm leasing my FR-S, so I'm not going to lose sleep over drilling a couple holes on the front bumper, but I would love to drive it without the front license plate.

Because he is slowly learning that his posts are usually silly!
Really should have said "I posted at my own risk".
In fairness though this is the least ludicrous of the ones he has posted even if 5 minutes of searching would have found about 10 existing threads on the subject.

I got my Perrin relocator bracket from @MAPerformance. Good stuff, and they do free shiping.

He's a little gun shy now. It's pretty funny. He's sticking with it, though. Gotta give him that.

Alexgalarreta 12-29-2014 07:49 PM

I was given a warning twice (the first time I wasn't even told by officer that he had given me a warning for no front tags) I found out when I was pulled over the 2nd time specificly because the officer saw that I wasn't ruining front tags and mentioned to me that it was my second time. I ziptied the tags onto the grill afterward until just recently when I deleted the front grill. As long as the cop isn't able to see the front and the back of your car within that moment in time they won't pull you over. When I was pulled over the 2nd time, cop and I came to stop at a red light right next to each other I then realized that he started to look at the front of my car. Next thing you know light turns green and he turns his lights on.

So happy I live in Pennsylvania, land of no front license plates. Plus I've registered the vehicle at my Mom's house so I don't need those pesky emissions done (her county is emissions free) either.

I think if I had to put the plate on, the only option would be the tow hook license plate holder.

On a side note, with all the technology out there, I think it's time to ditch license plates altogether and go the RFID route.

So Mr Hit and Run Witnesses did you get a plate number?
Yes, my personal RFID reader said it was XXX 1234!

Not once in the three times I have had to deal with hit and runs has a single person got a license plate.

Well I got one of them once, too bad it was a stolen plate that didn't match the vehicle type.

"Dealer was supposed to install front plate bracket and didn't, parts are on order... "

That is my excuse, but haven't been bothered once by it.

How do you get away with a lie? Usually cops know when you're lying!

Marx 12-30-2014 05:00 PM

I got a $75 ticket for no front plate while parked in Denver, ordered the Perrin tow hook kit for the same amount that afternoon. No chance to BS about 'parts on order' if you're not there when the write it up, and I think it looks kinda cool off to the side like that.

We don't get tickets without being present (parking infractions excluded). "Due Process" is what I've been told my a fellow friend/cop of mine

l0aded 12-31-2014 05:27 PM

10 years of driving with no plate. No tickets. (southern california)
