Responses?"Scion FR-S kill (not surprising...) "

So I was strolling google to find the latest new about the FR-S because I am dying to get one. And I happen to come accross this.

"
Scion FR-S kill (not surprising...)
Well there is an FR-S at a local dealership that everyone and their cousin has been drooling over. Tonight I was out just cruising going to get food and I see it. The guy is driving very "spirited" and theres a dealer plate on it. I figured lets see if he will play. Well he is getting onto the highway, so I decide to follow. He takes off around a bend and up the on ramp, balls to the wall. Well at this time I am about 6 cars behind, I get on it and start reeling him in. By the time I get to the top of the on ramp(1/8 mile or so..) I am already within 2 lengths. I go to the passing lane and proceed to WALK around him. I put about 4 lengths on him up to about 120 and shut her down. I got a buddy that used to work at this dealership so I am gonna see if he can figure out who it was and maybe we will re-run, although I think it would just be a waste of gas. I am stock BTW...

Made me a little upset. Like we say in the south "them are some fighting words". So will someone put on a turbo and beat this guy.lol.

the_3d_man 06-06-2012 11:22 AM

So you were driving 120 on a public highway while racing a guy in an FRS?

Hmm

No.

Street racing is flat out moronic and dangerous. Street racing on a freeway with this car is even more moronic.

hNt 06-06-2012 11:25 AM

i feel like i got dumber after skimming thru that thread

last post said something like "I thought I heard Toyota is coming out with a new FT-86.."

clevrname 06-06-2012 11:25 AM

Let see how well that torque steering monster would keep up with an FR-S around a track, you know, where you're supposed to race cars........

Personally, I hate SRT4s.

Yes that last post made me laugh also. Must have been living under a rock in the last 6 months.

thill 06-06-2012 11:31 AM

First of all, I hardly even see this as a race. The guy in the Caliber SRT thinks he is racing the FR-S, but is the guy in the FR-S? "Walking all over" somebody who is not even really racing you is, well, kinda lame.

And yeah, 120mph on a public freeway is just stupid. Most cops will just throw your ass in jail and you could lose your license.

And lastly, the Caliber SRT has 280+ hp and 260+ ft-lbs of torque. It is going to smoke a FR-S in a straight line race. So I am not sure what this would prove anyway.

And yeah, when I think of fun sports cars, Dodge Caliber SRT is not even on the list... It has the Jeep Compass chasis and you sit up in the car like you would a small SUV... Ughh..

FLHC 06-06-2012 11:34 AM

thats cool and all...

but its an SRT-4.

I don't care if it walks a corvette.

HunterGreene 06-06-2012 11:40 AM

SRT-4 was alright as a car when it was the Neon. Dodge killed it when they made an SRT-4 Caliber. Thing is stupid fast, which is exactly that...stupid.

I heard a rumor that an SRT-4 Dart may be on the horizon. Would love to see the Caliber go away, its a failboat of a car.

To be honest, Toyota/Scion/Subbie boards are always a TON more mature than the Dodge or Civic Fanboy boards.

Why should you be upset at some tard on the internet who is doing 120mph on a highway?

Should never let people push your buttons so easily. It leads to stupid decisions and worse consequences.

goincarcrazy 06-06-2012 12:04 PM

I think everyone in these forums knows and accepts the power limitations of the stock configuration. I think we're more likely to be comparing lateral G loads than straight line times and power figures.

SRT announced a few weeks ago that a Dart SRT4 was on the way. Only 4 days into owning my first ever RWD car, I think it's safe to say I never want another FWD car when it comes to handling factor. I am pretty much blown away by the FR-S/BRZ.

igorot 06-06-2012 12:09 PM

Racing on the highway or streets is stupid. Just plain stupid. What does it show? The ability of being a ****?

mact 06-06-2012 12:12 PM

A V6 Camry would walk the FR-S. Doesn't make me want the Camry more.

Hey guys I saw this 9 year old kid who had a Ninja Turtles shirt and was doing some kicks and having fun so I walked over, picked him up, and threw him across the room towards some other kids. Shit was tight, it was like he had no reach on me, WTF Brah?

The police showed up later and were all "Why did you beat up a little kid?" and I was all "Yo bro he was having fun doing some karate moves and that shit don't fly so I had to show him up."
The kid came up to me later and was all "Why don't you challenge me to Sodoku since I'm good at that." I was like "Yo little kid you're too young to be drinking!" What an idiot right!?

Anyway he has another friend his age who likes Power Rangers so I was thinking about tracking him down and challenging him to a fight to see if this one goes any different. Will post results.

ZmZMWagon 06-06-2012 12:46 PM

You guys shouldnt get too upset over this. It happened to the RX8 guys all the time and it will happen here. I dont think anyone bought this car for drag or roll racing. Just stay out of the left lane to avoid clowns like this.

Agreed!

If you bought an FR-S to win highway pulls.. you're doing it wrong.

If you get angry because someone in a FWD turbo car or V6 car can accelerate faster in a straight line.. you're doing it wrong.

Funny you mention that, my dad has an RX8, and loves the handling on it, even the torque curve, which is great...as long as you get the engine over 3k RPMs.

But, haters gonna hate, and let them blow by you if they want to...its not a race if only one guy is in it.

I came from an SRT-4 Neon that I had for about 4.5 years with a handful of upgrades. I had a chance to purchase another one after my car was totaled, but I decided to go with the FR-S because of the pure driving pleasure ...

Anyone who is worried about beating the FR-S in a drag race obviously doesn't understand what the car is all about.
When I shopped for this car I was looking at some much more powerful cars; 350z, G35, Legacy GT Spec-B, Corvette, GTO and yes another SRT-4.
But I deiced to go with the FR-S because I knew it would be the most fun to drive, super reliable, looked the best and would have ton of aftermarket support.
Plus, I have spent enough time on the drag strip, I'm ready for a road course car.

At the end of the day who can drift around what car XD RWD>FWD

I had my car less than a day when someone was already trying to race. Everyone is going to need to get used to it sadly.

I would so love to see a professional driver's comparison of the RX-8 and FR-S/BRZ. From everything I read, the two sound sooooo similar in design and handling philosophy, especially using an unusual engine that could be mounted low and back farther and building a car around that idea.

And yes, there were countless "I beat an RX-8!" threads on forums back in it's early days. And yes, they missed the point entirely.

Get used to it, lol... it's your turn :)

I am also waiting for a heads up comparison with the RX8, preferrably the R3. I might just wait until Mazda comes out with their answer to the FRS/BRZ......love me some Mazdas....

Well there were rumors of an upcoming RX-7 but it seems this project may be on hold. Unfortunately, Mazda is really hurting right now and just announced another series of layoffs. The strong Yen and the after affects of the Tsunami/earthquake are definitely affecting Mazda.

I have owned many Mazda products and really like the company but at this point I would not rule them being bought out by a larger company. I suspect until their financial situation improves we may not see an RX-7 as they will focus more on their more popular selling cars/segments.

Unfortunately, the RX-8 was not a big success for them, and that hurts a potential RX-7.

Personally I would love to see one. And a Toyota Supra as well :)

Logically, wouldn't the next rotary model be the RX-9? I don't think Mazda would resurrect the RX-7 name simply because each american iteration of the car, starting with the RX-4 (my grandmother had one of those), has been replaced by the number higher. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

As far as comparison, once I get my FR-S, I will let my dad take it around the block and see what he thinks :D

The rumor a few years ago was that they were going to bring the RX-7 name back:
http://www.rx7blog.com/2010/05/2011-...cept-pictures/

But I don't know when or if this car will ever see the light of day. I suspect it will depend on how well the FR-S and BRZ sell and how well Mazda recovers financially. And they also need to figure out how to economically make a rotary engine that can make high HP and get good gas mileage. That was one big problem with the RX-8, that car is thirsty at the pump :)

You came to an FRS/BRZ enthusiast forum to post that you raced against one in a car that's much quicker? I'm sorry, what was the point of your post again? Illegal public exhibition of speed, reckless driving? If you buy an FRS/BRZ for neck-breaking acceleration, you're doing it wrong. I think you're just upset that you own a Neon.

People like the OP make me not want to purchase an FRS/BRZ for exactly this reason. It's like the car puts a stupid spell on other drivers around you.

My point was that as long as I have been waiting (and still waiting) to get the FR-S it is very annoying to see someone in a big ugly POS talk trash. And I know that the FR-S was never intended for straight line. I never wanted a it for straight line.I wanted for going sideways. The only other car I would rather get at the momment is the Nissan Silvia S15. Damn Nissian never imported the good ones.

Where's a Dragon? I haven't seen him recently! I hope he have boosted the FR-S and kick those punks. LMAO

Put the jokes on the side (no joke on Dragon planning to boosting FR-S), but seriously, apple & orange

Dodge - definition when used as a verb. "to move aside or change position suddenly, as to avoid a blow (to the wallet for owning one) or to use evasive measures (what you should do when someone tries to sell you one)
