Front plate?

Do you have yours on?

Just want to see how many people actually put that ugly mounting bracket on with a front plate. (yes i know its legally required but i dont do ugly)

Akari 12-05-2014 02:55 PM

I have a towhook plate mount, but TBH I end up not running it 95% of the time. It's kind of a pain in the ass to take off for track days.

Sylvas808 12-05-2014 03:03 PM

Yes and no, I did the magnet mod so I can take it off whenever I go to shows or meets and am legal when cruising on the roads.

PERRIN_Chris 12-05-2014 03:09 PM

I have a front plate, but have it mounted on the PERRIN relocator. I'm tired of getting pulled over so I just run one now.

mjh712 12-05-2014 03:11 PM

Nope, only need a back plate in PA. :P

bababooey 12-05-2014 03:21 PM

hell yeah in an effort to avoid inviting the poh into my life!

austinbrz 12-05-2014 03:21 PM

No plate. I drive into work at 5:30am and drive home during rush hour.

No problems yet and today I actually had a cop get next to me, then stare at the front of my car, then get behind me (i thought that he was going to pull me over). He then got next to me and gave me a thumbs up as if he liked my car before he drove off the other direction.

On a side note...I had just finished tracking an F430 this morning and had he written a ticket it wouldn't have made me stop smiling.

isnt that the worst feeling when the cop gets behind you? lol at least you didnt get that ticket. i havnt had any problems so far with no front plate, my arguement would just be this is how it came stock from the dealer... i know i have the mounting bracket in the trunk but i dont want to put it on and make the front end look ugly.

Stang70Fastback 12-05-2014 03:47 PM

For the past two years, I had no front plate on my Subaru Outback. Most of that time was spent living in Virginia, but 6 months was spent in Chicago, and I never once had issues (both of those states require front plates.) I chalk it up to driving around in an unassuming wagon that doesn't draw much attention.

With the BRZ, I got the license plate mount. Not risking it since this car draws a lot more attention. It's kind of an interesting look anyway. I'd much prefer no plate but I can live with this.

Same here. Magnet mod was relatively easy and I like being able to remove it whenever I want. Sadly, though, even though I put felt pads on the back of the mounting bracket, I still have some marring on the mustache. Oh well.

Foobar 12-05-2014 04:07 PM

I use the Skene mount. Two Small screws underneath the bumper lip and some 3M is all it takes.

White&Nerdy 12-05-2014 04:50 PM

I got the factory mount. Didn't want to take any chances. That and I have my ham radio callsign on the plate - I pay extra for that so I might as well show it off. :)

Speed2th 12-05-2014 05:13 PM

I used Skene mount as well. Asymmetry plate placement really bugs me. I got many no plate tickets before from driving and even parked at parking lots. California cops got no better thing to do.

Pkush 12-05-2014 05:40 PM

I got the Grimmspeed mount. I actually like it more than no plate at all :bonk: I'm weird

Put it on after I was pulled over and warned for not having one on at all.
Maybe ugly, but better than the one off to the side of the car. Maybe would look more balanced if they put one on the other side two.
Bottom line one of those in the eye of the beholder kinda deals which is best.

tahdizzle 12-05-2014 06:03 PM

Perrin mount here.

Turbowned 12-05-2014 06:05 PM

Hell. No. Ticket me, IDGAF

My other two cars have front plates; they don't look nearly as ruined with them on.

HunterGreene 12-05-2014 06:08 PM

$80 tow hook mount > $100 no plate ticket.

How many "no front plate" tickets have you gotten?

Tow hook mount is where his plate is mounted to?

ronboogieon 12-05-2014 08:49 PM

Been ridin' dirty since August 2013

CBRZY 12-05-2014 08:55 PM

@Eski
Well, make sure never to drive near Ardenwood/Fremont area then. Cause that's where they gave me a $86 ticket for no plate.
Cop must've been f**king around with me. I mean, $86??

They KNEW what the car was and they probably laughed around with their cop buddies afterwards. Pigs.

Decay107 12-05-2014 09:41 PM

I ziptie mine to the grill in the winter to block off my oil cooler and keep oil temps nice and toasty. Function/Form FTW

Usually I don't run one

kberkel 12-05-2014 09:52 PM

Just moved to Michigan, but had no front plate in Ohio for 8 years.. my brother has had no front plate ohio for 14 years, my dad 10 years. Low priority in some states

I do have the holes in my bumper though since I bought used. I was going to plug them, but it doesn't bother me

No front plate on any sports car I've owned in the last 8 years. No trickets. I do keep the plate under the seat and will throw it in the windshield if I leave the car parked on the street or on the plaza for an extended time.

Itzed 12-06-2014 08:28 AM

I've owned this car for about two months now. One of the main reasons I bought this car was because of the styling. I love the way it looks and I was determined not to screw it up with a front plate. I carried the plate in the car and also a print out of the "New Maryland Law" indicating that no front plate is required if the car didn't come from the factory with a way to mount it. After only three weeks of driving like this I got pulled over by a state trooper and given a warning for no front plate. I told him about the new law and he laughed at me and said everyone tells him that, but it didn't pass, and Maryland would never pass a law like that because of all the money they make giving out these tickets. I hated to do it, but I put the front plate on with the factory mount. I don't want to be looking for the police and trying to avoid them when I should be enjoying my ride.

subyfly 12-06-2014 11:48 AM

Washington state requires it. When I had my WRX, never had it to for 6 years and never got pulled over. Now with my BRZ, not putting it on either.
If I do get pulled over, I'm sure it'll be a warning and if it isn't, I'll fight it as "Profiling" base on my car. All it takes is to look at a different direction and you can be sure there's a car without a front license plate on a RAV4 or some other ugly cars.
"Why aren't they getting pulled over for front license plates?! This is profiling!".

tyrantcf 12-06-2014 01:30 PM

No no no. I don't care if I get ticketed for it.

But I haven't gotten one yet.

cjd 12-06-2014 01:32 PM

I did the magnet trick, so can remove mine. Not worth the ticket, or even the excuse to pull me over.

subyfly 12-06-2014 01:35 PM

Its a secondary offense. Meaning I have to be either speeding or doing something else before they can ticket me about the front license plate as far as I know.

Zero thus far in 13k miles of driving. *fingers crossed*

It's worth mentioning that I have received tickets in the past for this with other cars, but both compounded with speeding tickets; never pulled over just for having no front plate.

same here, was gonna post this

HeadBanger 12-07-2014 11:58 AM

I have the factory mount. I rather just save the trouble of getting stopped, and putting an officer's life in danger just because I want a "cleaner" looking car.

for the record, I prefer factory mounting to the tow hook. Tow hook is ugly as hell IMO.

Police have no qualms about putting your life in danger to meet their ticket quota, so why do they deserve any consideration?

BTW, here are the states that require and don't require front license plates:

Fuck Texas. Counterfeit Southerners.

navanodd 12-07-2014 01:57 PM

Currently in Nova Scotia, where there's no front plate required. Moving to New Brunswick in about 6 months so I've been considering options.

I'm hesitant on tow hook mounts because I really don't like the idea of having a strong bolt directly attached to the main crash structure protruding beyond the low speed impact absorbing part of the bumper. I also don't want to drill holes and have seen how the magnet mount still mars the bumper without drilling it.

So I've been looking into these:
http://skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml

Still have to drill, but the holes are underneath and won't be visible if the plate is removed. New Brunswick doesn't require plates for seasonal cars, so someday the plate might come off the front if I keep the car after I get a new DD in the future.

that doesn't work mate. Judge won't care.. been a Washington resident for 24 years- nothing is worse than King/Sno municipal court judges :bellyroll:

...but I run no front plate as well :P. I have a bugeye rex with a front plate on, though. She has factory mounting holes :'(
