OFT - Two issues (possibility related)

G'day Guys,

I received my OFT this week and have hit a wall quite quickly.

Quick run down on car - Auto GT 86 2013

Plugged in the car and went through through the process of ''learning'' the current ecu - During that process I received an error message, which to-date I cant get past - The error message is something along the lines of Cannot load or Find Module - Tune file not available"

Then when I run the software manager, I get to the point it wants to update and I receive an error message saying "the process cannot access the file '.\\updater.exe' because it is being used by another process

Sorry for noob questions, but not sure how to tackle the each step.

The OFT shows my vin, but nothing else, no tune loaded etc

Wayno 12-04-2014 10:01 PM

The first issue is reading your stock rom. Check the obd2 connection is secure. Did you buy new or used tablet?

The second issue is OFM won't update itself for the past 3 versions or so. You'll have to download OFM 1.15 and install manually.

steve99 12-04-2014 10:09 PM

+1 on what @wayno said

download openflashmanger and tunes from here

http://openflashtablet.com/Automotiv...ads/index.html

also make sure you select vehicle type and toyota zn6 on your tablet before you try to read rom from your car as the oft supports multiple vehicle types.

see links below for more info OFT TIPS link in particular.

If still no go contact the guys at openflash

G'day Wayno - Brand spanker from the US tho there wasnt a protective screen on the unit which made me think it might have been used before?
Purchased direct from US via OFT webpage
Connection was secure I am pretty sure as it went through the steps (ie - Switch on ignition etc)

I am slightly worried about the stock rom, since trying the OFT I have the check engine light and my car doesnt do the autoblip in manual mode.. (again might be a side issue)

Will investigate the newer software right now!

Cheers guys

ARRRRH do you have an existing ECUTEK tune.

Ecuteck tunes are locked and will not allow other devices to read.

You need to load a stock rom back to your car , or at least the ecutek stock rom back to car before oft can read your rom.

you may also loose your ecutek licience as its embedded in "stock rom.

although the OFT will write back your stock rom which will have ecutek licience info in it.

if you don't have ecutek tune ignore above.

the oft will clear / read the cel code although its probably just a can buss transmission code cause when you plugged in oft.

just use oft to clear cel codes all should be ok.

just select toyots zn6 first.

Thankfully nothing added, its a stock other than powerblocks installed and battery disconnect recently.

Had success with the manager software now, reading as follows (pic)

When you get the opdated ofm going plug in oft and see if its loaded your stock tune in the proected slot

go to the "upload data" sction in ofm with oft plugged in. it should say original file/tune "present" if its sucessfully read your stock tune.

The error your getting may be due to no preloaded tunes for your car,

you may have to manually load tune files from the oft site.

not trying to be a "****" but make sure you have ignittion fully on ie all dash lights on (do not start car). Ignition must be fully on (engine off) before oft can read/write a tune.

diagnostics should allow you read ecu info including stock calid of ROM something like ZA1JA01I for an auto if your not either ZA1ZA00I or ZA1JA01I you will have to send your stock rom to the oft guys so they can generate a tune for you

My exhaust guy just called, my UEL headers are in!
So couple this with my powerblocks, what would your tune suggestion be for this set up now?

Cheers dave!

once you get uel headers fitted use the

A01I Stage 2 UEL header tune on petrol

or with E85 fuel only Stage 2 UEL E85.

the mods for crawford BPB don't seem to work well on out crappy 98 ron fuels (BP and shell seem to be best) BP probably the pick)

Talk to @Wayno he has an auto and Craford block and has done a lot of work on getting a BPB tune working.

I sold mine. You really need a custom tune with those blocks, or pull a lot of timing so it doesn't knock which i posted in the block specific thread.

yeah, never knew what the fascination was as it barely did anything well and had way too many negatives.

steve99 12-05-2014 01:34 AM

  • Those blocks seem to work well on a completly stock car but once you get header and a tune their benifit seems much diminished and if your on e85 as well dont seem worth tue trouble.i think follow @Wayno 's lead and sell them once you get header installed

Perth-86 12-05-2014 02:16 AM

Shall follow the lead on that one - I haven't been impressed with them on a stock engine so far, two be honest.
In fact - We did a dyno day the other day.
Mine made 143.5 which was lower than a completely stock auto on the same day which did 144.4
It was pretty embarrassing!!

Peak was not the point of the block in the first place.

as s2d4 said those block are ment to shift the peak power lower in the rpm range not rearly increase peak power.

As our 98 fuel is not much good, the power you make on 98 petrol is very dependant on the brand of fuel your using.

unitedP100 fuel was better but has been pulled from sale.

BP ultimate or Shell seems the best 98 but on stock tune you can still get significant knock which drops your IAM and reduces power.

General conscious then to remove them from this type of set up?
Ive been scoping out for other ZA1JA01I tunes other than the standard Stage 2 UEL tune (which feels good via bum dyno)

The powerblock install cost me two cartons, wonder if I can get them to remove them for 1 :-)

Cheers for the help boys.

I'm also having issues here. Plugged in my OFT this evening. All was going well like the video until after it read my stock tune.

Now it just shows this message.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...cc3f07a6d2e643

Wise 12-08-2014 07:48 AM

After that I plugged the unit into the computer and downloaded the OFT manager latest version 1.15.

I also downloaded the V 2.062 OTS Maps. I can't work out how to put these on the device though. I go into upload data and it keeps telling me that the maps are the wrong size or something.

After this I went back downstairs and plugged the OFT back into the OBD2 port. Now all I'm getting when I select tuning is the message above.

Can anyone help me?

I am pretty sure that means the oft cannot autogenerate a tune for your rom calid, from the preloaded database.
use oft to read your calid under diagmostics ecu info, download the latest complete tune files from oft site and load it up manually

see oft tips link below

make sure you unzip the tunes then go to the directory for your calid series like G series , C series and load up the .bin tune file you want. the oft will not let you load tunes that dont match your original calid.

Thanks for your help mate.

I've unzipped them using rar. The files inside the C and G Bins appear on my comp as VLC files.

When I try to add them into Modified 1 or Modified 2 or so on. I get the message below.

From this sceenshot your calid is A00G so the oft willonly let you load A00G tune files

the tune files you need will be under G series then stage 1 if your stock then the A00G file. the files should have .bin extensions.

Thanks mate. I'll give that a shot when i get home form work.

I'm waiting on my UEL header to arrive and will be installing that in the next two weeks.

I'm guessing in this case, to chang emy tune I'd just select G Folder, then Stage 2 UEL, then the AODG tune?

Yes for uel header Stage 2 UEL, then the AOOG tune unless you going to run E85 fuel then Stage 2 UEL E85, AODG tune

our 98 ron is pretty crap and you can benefit from pulling a bit of base timing out of the map.

Cheers Steve I'll give it a read. I did what you said and it worked fine. Had no issues writing the map onto the ECU.
