Bad Luck With My BRZ.
Hey guys, before getting to the most recent event let me give you a little backstory.
Picked up my BRZ not even a year ago. All was fine until around four or five months. My engine blew. Subaru replaced it for me and although the dealer I took it to took a month and a half I walked away a happy man. Subaru made me happy and I was just happy to get my car back. A month or two goes by and I spun out and hit a tree. Okay so that was my fault I will admit. Insurance covers it and it came out to $10k in damages. It still sounds like too much, but what do I know. It's been maybe a month or maybe not even and I end up with a collision with a deer. Here is some pictures. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps8b7751b5.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps7e6ff7a6.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps9dfd6e63.jpg This is another $9k in damages somehow. I don't believe in bad luck, but I feel like my car is cursed or something. Every time I get it back something else happens. Most of it I couldn't even help it happening either. I love this car, but my friends and family keep telling me to sell it. I still owe around $10k. I'd probably be taking a big financial loss, but I feel like I'll have the car again for a few weeks or months and something else will happen. My insurance is going to go through the roof eventually. Like I said; I love the car, but I don't know what to do now. |
Sell it if you can't drive it/don't like it/family pressure. Don't say stuff is cursed, my grandmother still believes in that, but in 2014 (almost 2015) we explain things logically.

Sorry to hear man. http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/sadwavey.gif
Those estimates sound nuts. Feels like $3k maybe to me. No airbags? The car's not gonna gain value and you have a decent amount paid off.. hate to see you sell it but :iono: |
Might I suggest going a little easier on the gas pedal on public roads?
|
Stuff happens.
Ex got a ticket, then got hit twice. second was day after she got the repaired car back. Nothing has happened since and its been years. |
Man, the way that hood is crumpled really shows how thin it is... looks like aluminum foil, lol. Sucks dude.
|
Sorry to hear. Just remember after flipping a coin 99 times and it coming up heads 99 times, the odds on the 100th flip are still 50/50. Same things could happen to you in a new car, or not happen at all again in this one.

The front is a crumble zone. It is designed to crumble to absorb the energy from the impact in a controlled deformation. You certainty don't want the energy from the collision impact to travel through the front and into you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
gota change your mentality. If you keep thinking car is bad luck and that something bad will happen, something bad will happen. my2cents

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias"]Negativity bias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
The negativity bias[1] (also known as the negativity effect) refers to the notion that, even when of equal intensity, things of a more negative nature (e.g. unpleasant thoughts, emotions, or social interactions; harmful/traumatic events) have a greater effect on one’s psychological state and processes than do neutral or positive things. |
Thanks guys.
The car is going to be gone for three weeks roughly. Since buying it I'll have been without it for around three months out of the soon to be 9 months having the thing lol. I don't know. Quote:

Enjoy a venison sausage and realize life has its ups and downs.

I had an almost identical accident with a deer, and the estimate was around 7,500 without airbags deploying, or frame damage. I only had mine for three months at the time. Everyone always thinks these estimates are high, I just don't think many understand how much things actually cost. One OEM headlight alone is listed at $700.
You could have hit a deer in any car. I wouldn't sell this car just because of that if you enjoy it. Also, the resale value at this point has dropped from accidents where its really going to hit your wallet. |

I don't think anyone is understanding what I am saying. I'm not surprised that the hood didn't remain undamaged, lol. I'm just looking at that notch where the hood is bent 180 degrees around and saying most hoods are so thick that it would have just crushed that portion, not molded it into a weird new shape, lol.
|
Sorry about your misfortune with your BRZ. If there's no frame damage and you have a new engine, I say keep it. As long as it drives like new, and the body panels and the hood are all aligned properly, think of it as a new car and enjoy. No sense taking a financial loss.
Last, treat yourself to a set of new wheels and suspension and you'll forget all about these incidents. Love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru. :D |

Lol. Yes. It is aluminum, and very thin. Which is why my original comment in this thread, before everyone tried explaining the point of crumple zones, was just stating how you could tell how thin and malleable the hood was from how it deformed. I even said "aluminum foil" because that's also aluminum.
|
Hey OP, it sucks that these bad things are happening to your car.
You should try to get rid of it before your resale value tanks even further. |
With all these accidents your resale value will suck also the car will never drive the same way as it was new ever again. Common sense dictates if a vehicle gives you problems like this you sell it before it hemorrhages more money

that hood tho. lol ive never seen a hood bend in such an odd angle before but i guess with weak alluminum anythings possible especially when you catch a deer antler in the right spot. glad you werent hurt. as far as your car karma goes just keep on trucking lol if you love the car dont get discouraged so easily and keep the thing for a while. like some of the other posts said, it could happen to you in any car at any time so unless you dislike the car i would say keep it! theyre awesome cars! i know i love mine |
Sorry to hear about all your problems. Makes sense I didn't see you towards the end of the summer. Good luck moving forward
|
Why the hell does nobody else care about the poor deer? Still alive i hope.

RIP deer. And may i now conduct the worlds first online deer funeral. We are all gathered here today to celebrate what a beautiful life Devon the deer had. He was always a kind lad with a bright future ahead of him. It is sad we will never know his full possibilities as a deer of the forest of the op's unknown location. It is on this empty evening that we remember his life and mourn his death. God rest his merry soul.

I was in a similar state of mind last year...
1 fell from my mt bike got concused pretty good...couple of gs in hospital bills. 2 got into a car accident in my old Celica not 3 months later. Needles to say I was terrified of anything w wheels for a while 3 work was brutal...I was doing some ridiculous hours. The entire second half of the year. everything was broken. ...I got out of it by frivolous spending every now and then, if I am ganna spend money might as well enjoy it right? Counter balance the shitty days w fun and joy....cuz life is going to keep throwing curve balls. Some ill see some u won't |
I Donot believ bad luck. just drive more and more carfuly
|
Sorry bro, could be worse. I'm going to have my license suspended
I think I'm going to make it track car only and get a prius or something to DD. I can't seem to control myself when driving this car. But that's my fault not bad luck Hope you get your car fixed well and insurance doesn't rape you |
Howd u get suspended? I just got my 2nd ticket and im not even 18 yet lol imma fight it hopefully win then i think the 3rd is when bad shit happens.

Well you could pull a sean boswell and move to Tokyo ;)
|
Well I'm going to keep it. It would be stupid to sell it.
Thanks for the support guys. And yeah Devon the deer didn't make it sadly. |
I feel your pain. Mine was hit twice while parked (first time within the 2nd month of ownership, and second time yesterday), rear ended on the highway, and had a homeless man break my window to steal an air spencer(prob thought it was a cell phone).
