Tint?

Hey guys I am looking into getting tint so I am not blinded by other cars headlights at night anymore and to tone it down a notch during the day. Was wondering where you guys got your tint at, how much, and what brand you got?
I know some tints like the metallics can mess with radio frequencies so I was wondering what brands everyone has and if it does that to our car. Also what percent? I kind of want to go with 20 in the front and 15 or limo in the rear but I'm not sure what shop will install that since its illegal. Thanks

Are you tinting the front windshield?

Boblhead 11-27-2014 01:19 PM

No credible place is going to tint your front windshield without a prescription. If you wear glasses, and you can convince your eye doctor that you need it. Your insurance will most likely cover it.

ask for Mike Candelaria and tell him you're with our car meet. Myself (Jeff) and Sohail use him and he's solid. He did every piece of glass on my vehicle minus for $100 total. 12% all around with a full warranty. I know he does windshields because he asked if I was getting mine done, but I did have a script at the time. (I just didn't want to tint mine)

EDIT:: If you go to the meets on wednesdays I can show you my car. You can see how dark it is at night driving. If you can drive stick, I'll let you drive it or whatever too so you can get a feel for what you're seeing at 12%

I don't wear glasses so I know I won't be able to get the windshield done. I was just going to do the AS1 line on the windshield. I just wanted to go darker than 35 on the fronts because thats not to dark at all and I see so many people who have tint darker than that around here. So I was thinking of going with like 15 all the way around and the AS1 line on the windshield. I just don't know of any shops around here that will install darker than the legal limit.

I will definitely hit this place up if you got it for that price. What brand of tint do they carry? Did it mess with your radio frequency at all? I appreciate the offer of being able to drive your car but unfortunately I can't drive stick haha. I will most likely start coming to the meetups though so I can meet some of you guys.

Cactus Window Tint

This place is really solid and does amazing work. They have McClarens and Teslas in there regularly due to their proximity to their dealers. They also do clear bras. Rick will get you taken care of and be sure to get you exactly what you want and he will stand behind it. I got 20% all around done there and it looks great and I'm planning on going back and getting a very light tint on the windshield to block heat once I replace mine that's currently chipped.

I cannot remember the brand to save my life, but I will take you for a drive if you come to the wednesday meet. That way you can at least look around.

The Cactus Company that was listed is another solid company. I know a couple of people who used them for their cars, I just cannot speak for it since I've never used anyone else.

I had my tint and clear bra done by these guys. Awesome work and had it back to me within a few hours.

The owner even showed me around the shop and the multiple 100k cars he was doing full vinyls on.

I also agree with this. Rick is the man and I don't go anywhere else.

Cactus put clear bra all around my car short of the roof and trunk lid (excessive I know but worth it in the long run trust me!)

Also put on 3M Crystalline 50% all windows under 3M FX 35% all around except the windshield. The Crystalline blocks the light/UV/heat and the FX makes it darker to taste. Combined the tint is 17% and it's the perfect darkness for me including night driving.

And contrary to what the guy on the top says, you don't need a "prescription" for windshield tint, that is TOTALLY untrue, and any legitimate shop that works on cars other than mom's minivan will do pretty much whatever you want on any window you want, but some places will say cash only (no paper trail) or ask for a gentleman's agreement not to tell the police about it if asked. Some shops stay squeaky clean for the average consumer and won't do it, but more custom oriented places will.

My Window tint guy did an amazing job,

all pro window tint, hes licensed bonded insured
David Palmer is his name
phone number is 623 215 3129 He did my fr-s all the way around except windshield (I had a crack in it at the time and was waiting on getting it replaced) and I had him do my wifes Honda odyessy all the way around including windshield... I recommend all my customers that ask about tint to him as well after the job he did for us.

HAWAIICALIVEGAZ 12-04-2014 01:13 AM

On a few of my cars, i've had the windshield tinted with 50% and hadn't had any problems...

MaddBaggins 12-04-2014 08:41 PM

I went with The Specialists Formula One Classic tint, legal limits. $199.

(apologies for the necro-post!)

I stopped by Cactus Tint the other day and spoke with Rick. He talked me through the options and showed me around his shop. Class operation. As such, it takes a bit to get an appointment.

I'm leaning toward the Crystalline, but it's spendy.

@Rota, did you go back to get the windshield tinted? It's a convincing argument, but I worry about the inevitable rock on the Phoenix-area roads.

I actually JUST got my windshield replaced this week. With how many chips were on it after a year of ownership I'm hesitant to spend the money to put any tint on it. I'm also hardly driving lately since I live right next to my office now and can work from home, so I'm probably not going to do it.

That said, Cactus does awesome work and I highly recommend them if you decide to get it done on your car.

Kind of random but I think I saw your car on a website for a Chandler/Tempe car wash. Your tint setup sounds awesome. I would have liked to do the same thing but at the time I really needed tint but was tight on cash and couldn't justify it.

Thanks Rota!

<--- too new for the thanks button

Yes you did see my car, I didn't know they put it on their website but that's kinda cool. I've had my windshield replaced since then and I haven't put tint on it, but it's on my to-do list.
