Youngest kid to drive your FR-S?
 

My good friend, Travis, turned 15 about two months ago. He got his driving permit soon after and he has actually put more miles on my FR-S than I have! He is pretty proud of this and he wanted me to share it with you guys.

Where was a cool mentor like me when I was 15 years old!?! Check out his drifting skills in the video. Nothing crazy, but pretty good counter-steering for someone who has only been driving for about six weeks!

By the way, the demonstration of the traction control was kind of a failure... so I never posted it on the site, haha.

My youngest son (15 also) had the opportunity to drive mine, but since he turned 15 in February, looks like you still have me beat out.

I'm 18 and drive mine daily, but I'm not letting anyone else drive it, way too paranoid.

was it understeering because of the new tires / sizing? I am seriously wondering if wider tires are going to suck the fun out of this car or if that's just marketing hype. I mean 200hp isn't a lot of power, but keeping the wheels around 16-17 and maybe 8 inch wide all around should be that bad should it?

Coming from an S14 I never went higher than 17x7.5. I think anything over 8.5 will cause too much grip. At that point you would have to do suspension work to get it to slide better.

Back on topic. The youngest kid I, might allow to drive mine would be my brother, but he's 21.

No one who I refer to as a "Kid" will be driving my BRZ. LOL

Hey I'm 15 too! I'll turn sixteen in a few days. Plan on getting an FRS by mid summer maybe. Hopefully :)

It was the traction control that was causing it to understeer. As soon as traction control was turned completely off the rear end kicked out.

I let my 4 year old steer some while moving the car at the house... Do I win?!

I noticed the tpms light was on. I take the new wheels didn't have the sensors? If so this video proves you can still turn the trac controls off and have no sensors.

feldy, yeah, the TPMS system does not affect the traction control system.

My younger daughter took deliver of her new FRS on 5/23. 16 years 1 month. She likes the car!

As someone who's been following this car since i turned 14, couldn't get his permit or licence yet (i'm 17) due to legal issues (nothing bad; I wasn't born in the U.S. + Bad luck), and wanting to drive for as long as i could remember, I just have to say that anyone that young, to drive or own this beautiful machine, is extremely lucky and blessed. I guess I'm a bit envious, but i know it'll come with time, i want it too bad. :)

i am the youngest and oldest person to drive my fr-s thats cuz i wouldnt let anyone else drive it :D

My older daughter got a 2008 TC for her 16th birthday with every option orderable. Injen and Borla too. Delray Toyota had never taken delivery of a TC with a $26K sticker before that day. We didn't pay that much...
With only 50 miles we added a "Complete" TRD Suspension System, an HID conversion, gutted and insulated the entire interior with Rammat and Ensolite. Blend Mount, Valentine One, Superbright LED's for every bulb, etc ....

That car has 50K+ miles and drives great, Mobil 1 5w30EP and now Penzoil Ultra 5w30 every 5k.
I love my daughters. I don't drive their cars.

I'm 16 and I got an FR-S 2 days before I got out of my Junior year :happyanim: , Drove it to school the next day and seeing the reactions on peoples faces :thumbup: priceless. Hahah most of my friends were surprised because I went from a 2001 Galant to an FR-S :)

Most states in the US you can get a "learner's permit" at 15, which requires a licensed driver in the car with you.

In 11 states, you can be as young as 14.

i turned 17 this year old and this is my daily car.
No one else drives my car. muahaha!

Some privileged ass kids here man... when I was 17 I worked my ass off at some dumb restaurant to be able to afford the $1000 rustbucket FC3S down the street from my church. It was white so I could pretend I was Ryosuke from Initial D, ha.

But then again, I remember some kids in high school having nice cars. One kid had a Supra, and another had a Mazdaspeed Protege. among a few others.

Enjoy the car guys. I didn't have the means to drive a brand new car as a teen, so I'm jelly!

Well, Travis is a great kid who works hard. He earns the right to drive by working for me with yardwork, washing cars, etc. These high school kids that are getting 86s better be earning them with straight As!

If only the BRZ was released when I was still in high school! Prom night may not have been as fun with the cramped backseat, however... :thumbsup:

Damn 16 with an FRS. only in Cali I guess. kids would be lucky to get a full MetroCard around here so they can take their asses to the train.

I thought this was interesting, until I saw you were from Cali. Youngest that has driven my car is my friend and he was 20. No one else will touch it but me. (21)

hahahh well im 17 now, and yeah I was pretty lucky to get an FRS at 16. Have been nothing but grateful for it since i got it :thumbup:

Yea, I have one of those hats to, but like you say hope they enjoy them.

First 3 cars I owned literally cost less than a lot of athletic shoes these days. First one was $300. Next two were both under $500. I had 4 cars between ages 16 and 19. I sold every one of them for the same or more than what I paid for them.

$300 cars teach you a lot about life and build character!

I think it's crazy that parents buy their kids cars. I bought my own first car (1984 Z28) for $600. That car was a POS, so I appreciate the brand new FR-S that I have now.
