I like turbo delay question

The following might be riddled with nonsense but please educate me , thanks in advance, here goes
I know most ppl will probably disagree but
I like lag. Not in terms of throttle response , but i like the delay of boost only kicking in above ~5k rpm and BOOM! I like the idea of having the turbo being semi off and being docile while i m just cruising and having my car feel stock when driving regularly , basically what i m asking for is a really skewed top end powerband turbo , kinda like what aggressive cams would do

So far most kits do a amazing job smoothing out the curve / removing torque dip , but i just want a turbo that really changes the car in the higher rpm and pretty much keep it stock on the low rpms i never really go below 4k rpm during spirited driving anyways

Is this all the tune ? Or is there a kit/ big turbo out there for
edit
update ,
after gaining further understanding i now understand i need a controllable wastegate via ebcs, preferably with a recirculating bov a big turbine is prefered but not neccessary

Tune, probably a "big" turbine

Subbed for interesting question. Oversized yes, but...

Check my build thread. My first tune went from 200 whp to 460whp in only 1000rpm. Very hard to control. That was with a manual boost controller. With an ebcs you could make it even worse.

full blown stage 2 with gtx35r seems to fit what you want.

Again the kit is fantastic , but the midrange is still a bit too much for what im looking for , and i know what i want is ... Idiotic to most but i like the feeling of a power sleeper *

A precision 6766 should have enough lag for you. Your goal for lag is kind of weird, opposite of what most look for lol

dabocx 11-25-2014 11:23 PM

Yeah if a GTX35 isnt laggy enough your going to have to look into a transmission swap because a turbo bigger than that is going to cause a host of issues

I think you would be happy with a gtx3076 or gtx3576.

What you are describing is torque, and a lot of girls I give rides to love that torque as well. What you are trying to achieve can be done with the right size turbo, WG spring, electronic boost controller, and having your tuner keep the timing mellow before that curve. My car has that kick at 4500 that pulls your head back - PTuning turbo kit.

I think I have the most peak torque per peak hp than anyone on a stock engine. Might be wrong though. Gtx2867r. 393wtq 461whp.

what mid range? they made stock power till 5k rpm and then it wakes up, what kind of power are you actually looking to make?

oh i think i looked at a different dyno, i guess the tune and other factors really skews it

I think you have a lot of research to do still. It's not really the "kit" that has a whole lot to do with what you want. It's timing, compressor/turbine size, turbine housing ar sizing, etc. just picking a kit and thinking it will get you there is not going to do it

For sure i definetly wont jump to conclusions like i did with my previous mods, always learning

King Tut 11-26-2014 09:51 AM

You guys are still thinking too small. How about a Garrett GT4094R? That should give you all the lag you want. I am sure LJ @FullBlown can make a turbo kit that will fit that.

mkivsoopra 11-26-2014 01:03 PM

Giant turbo will do it.. hope your motor holds together.

Why don't you just learn to control it with your throttle...? you can make it kick in whenever you want. Design the system to have the most power during ALL of the RPM range and then use what you want with your right foot.
