Car just got repaired - Is this how it's supposed to look?

Got into an accident recently and had to replace the front bumper. I just noticed this after a few weeks and I'm 99% sure this isn't how it's supposed to look. Can somebody please confirm and provide a pic with how it's supposed to be. It looks like this on both headlights.

I wanna bring in the pic to the body shop to have them fix it up. Thanks!

DantKR 11-20-2014 10:23 AM

That has happened on EVERY replaced front bumper I've seen. It's kind of annoying.

malave7567 11-20-2014 10:24 AM

No that's not how it should look. That section should "clip" into under the headlight and be a smooth line. Having taken my bumper off a couple times, it really isn't that hard to get that back on right... I think they got lazy. You could try pushing in right there and seeing if you hear it clip in, but I would definitely let the shop know they messed up.

Really, I only ever see the sagging on the far corners of the bumper, not directly under the light, but near the sidemarker. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Was going to grab you a pic but to covered in snow to see.
That shit aint right! In fact not even close.
Did they even use OEM parts?

Vides990 11-20-2014 10:37 AM

OP, search, this is covered in the issues/warranty topic. Subaru has revised brackets that fix this......

I was wondering if any body shops use OEM parts, unless you specifically ask them to.

A lot of shady ones don't use them but do charge for them!

Could you do that please whenever there's not that much snow? my series.blue looks similar to this, I'm guessing the dealer didn't install the bumper properly.

Can you wait till April?????

Pkush 11-20-2014 10:51 AM

Yeah it looks like that from the dealer. My guess would be that they were putting the aero kit on and didn't put the bumper on properly.

April sounds fun. I guess I'll look around elsewhere :(

Pkush 11-20-2014 10:57 AM

I'll take a pic and post it in about 2 hours

On a related note, I did discover this morning that a lowered FRS with the proper snow tires makes a perfectly fine snowplow on a street with 18 inches of fresh untouched snow!

Pkush 11-20-2014 11:01 AM

With 18 inches of snow anything can be a snowplow lol

My neighbors should enjoy the 3 inch high lane I created. Thinking of billing the city for the plow job.

Knshro13 11-20-2014 03:16 PM

you can remove the bumper, and start with those tabs first when installing. I'm sure its just because the tabs are not in all the way. sometimes when installing the bumper, the tabs will go over, or under the clip, forcing it to bend and not sit flush. It can be done DIY.

The bodyshop should fix this .... not your problem. If you try and crack the paint .... then it becomes YOUR problem.

what? how can it be a defect if it only happens after replacing the bumper? and to only a few people...

I actually just tried pushing it back in and the bumper does bend, but I'm afraid i'll break something too if I push too hard. Anybody else try this before?

If it takes any real force than its not aligned properly. Will need to be taken back off.

samfrs 11-20-2014 09:16 PM

Yeah if you try again and don't get perfect fit that mean dumbass body shop didn't do a perfect job to repaired it. It happened to me a while back, I just try to fit it as best I can and live with it. It doesn't bother me anymore now.

^ I agree, but also agree that the shop should fix this. I actually did this to my bumper after I finished installing my Perrin CAI and silicone inlet. It was in fact due to the bumper not sitting in the prefab slots. Luckily it was only one side, easily fixable by loosening the bumper and reinstalling it.

If you dont feel comfortable, then just take it back to the shop and tell them to readjust the bumper. It's not very hard, Im a girl and was able to do my entire CAI and inlet install on my own. My husband supplied some of the elbow grease on some stubborn screws, but it was an easy install overall.

I don't think so. 50,000 Mile FR-S.

jarviz 11-21-2014 02:12 PM

brought it back to the shop. we'll see what happens.

jarviz 11-26-2014 04:13 PM

Sorry the the late reply. I brought it back to the shop and they were able to fix it. They said it took like 2 seconds and just had to 'pop' it back in to it's clips or something. Either way, there should definitely not be any lines or ridges showing under the head light... Just like the way I remember it when washing the car.

THe funny thing is there is another FRS right on my block and I took a look at his, and he has those lines showing.. I'm wondering if he had repair work done also.

cycleboy 11-26-2014 06:27 PM

Mine has a gap that opens up a little on the driver's side. I can pop it back in but it just pops out again. I believe the little clip got broken, either when it got hit in the parking lot or when the body shop took the bumper off & reinstalled it.

I didn't notice it for quite awhile after I had the work done, so not much I can do.
