Off topic - what did you mean by no drill? Just no holes for license plates?

I tried to just focus on holding my phone for the video and "ignore" how it was being offloaded.

I agree with the no drill, but no wash? Any particular reasoning behind this?

I'd rather wash and detail it myself knowing it wouldn't be a half ass wash. Those foam rollers make me cringe every time I see cars going through them at the gas station.

Tbxgz 06-05-2012 04:29 PM

Congrats man. Glad you got a good deal after being royally screwed by that other dealer.

Longhorn248 06-05-2012 04:31 PM

So I put about 50 miles on the car during lunch. It's hard keeping it under 4k, I can tell the engine wants those last 3400 revs. I'm waiting to get out of the office in a couple hours to get her back on the road. I'll report back later tonight with a full report and pics!

But it looks so sparkly clean. :D

Actually here's something from Ernie's Touch-Free Auto Wash has to say on home washing.

Quote:

Washing your vehicle at home s harmful to both the finish and the environment. A University of Texas study proved that home washing inflicts scratches as deep as 1/10 of your vehicles finish. Home washing also pollutes our environment by infiltrating groundwater and storm drains. At Ernie's, waste is properly treated an our biodegradable soaps and protectants are gentle to both your vehicle and mother nature. Our washes also converse our natural resources by using far less water than you would at home.
And here's one more.

Quote:

Touch-Free Prevents Scratches
The cloth used at typical car washes, sponges and mechanical brushes can scratch your vehicle's paint. As they clean, these materials grind abrasive dirt and sand into the finish, turning seemingly harmless cleaning products into mild sandpaper. You'll notice the cobweb-like swirls created by this repeated "sandpapering" in bright light. At Ernie's, we use touch-free robotics instead of harmful mechanical brushes.
Figured I share that with you and others. So what do you think?

This is true if your just a reguar Joe Blow that uses his kitchen sponge and some Dawn to do the washing. I believe if your willing to come onto these forums and take the time to research your car properly you would want to care for it properly as well. Even at high end car washes/detailers the sponges and towels are no where near as clean as you can keep them at your house. If you just don't want to be bothered with it I get that, but you can't honestly say any machine wash is better than a proper wash done at home.

+1

Those quotes seem more of a guy trying to push his product.

Regardless if you have hard or soft water, nothing beats taking the time to fully clean your own car and make sure everything is done right. The dirt that's on the car prior to a dealership washing it must be fully rinsed off first. They just drive through their car wash and spray a mist before the soap gets sprayed. Most of the dirt is still on there when the rollers are activated so the dirt is mixed in with the soap acting like a fine grit sandpaper.

That's just my view! When I wash my car/truck it's a several hour ordeal. I'm a Qtip in the air vents, separate sponge for the wheels and undercarriage, engine detail, seats out to vaccum etc.

BTW, congrats to the OP!

I posted my reasons a few responses up.

It actually originated from this thread and the concerns of the PDI and the dealer washing your car vs not.

Love that blue but hate that front!! Congrats again and looks clean! ;)

I wonder if they can leave the white wrap on the hood and roof just like how it did when it came off the truck. That's how I would prefer to take delivery of mine! :bellyroll:

Yeah, I know what you mean! However, at this Subaru dealership, they are linked with the Lincoln dealer a block or two down the road and they do the Subaru car washes over there. It's a first class reputation/high roller dealership, fairly new facility so, assume their car wash is state of the art. Also, met the fellow that details the new cars at the Subaru shop here and he's a good guy. I trust him. I have no hesitation at all letting this dealer prep my car when it comes in!! Longhorn's car was immaculate, had it parked taking up two spaces and one dude came in to look at his car before Longhorn arrived and his salesman wouldn't let the guy touch it or sit in it. Salesman just opened the door to let him look inside. I didn't even get close enough to his car to drool on the exterior but after Longhorn got there was able to take a good snort of the interior smell! Longhorn's prolly addicted by now!! All the weeks of delayed gratification and lust and now he has that beautiful sexy car in his possession and all.

That's cool but me personally, if they allowed it, would rather have it right off the truck, with the white protection wrap on the hood and roof, seats wrapped, plastic wheel covers and no full tank. The thought of renting a U-Haul trailer to load up is a possibility if I decided on buying it in Vegas or LA.
