FRS at VIR

bone stock fast lap is 2:24.83. Driven by Mike Skeen. Put over 80 laps on the car. Stock pads are done. Time to pack out up. One more session tho. I really like this car. But definitely needs brakes. Tires aren't bad for the power. Pics and vid to follow. Got Mike's hot lap and I know its gonna stand for a while here.

Won't be driving my car for a few days now until I get new pads on. Was kinda scary driving all the way back with only rear brakes.

That laptime sounds right in line with what I would expect, having just driven ours at PBIR this weekend. Mike is megafast, I actually co-drove with him at VIR a few years ago.

We didn't try the factory pads, but on a max performance street tire, under 2:20 might be in the realm of possibility.

What pads should I try for the next event. Probably gonna be Atlanta motor sports park or Carolina.

You should come to Atlanta Motorsports Park this weekend as I would like to check out the car. I will be there for the AutoX on Saturday.

Any place to get details about the AutoX. If I'm available I might want to slide by. Do they allow spectators only? Never been to an event.

The ATL region SCCA autox uses soloatlanta as their website for announcing schedules, events, etc.

I'm a fan of Hawk. Not sure if they are making pads for the FR-S yet. HPS will work wonders, but if you want the best go for HP+. Just be aware that those will be extremely dirty and sound like dying babies anytime you touch the stop pedal!

I'm not new to race pads. I smile at the squeal.

80 laps on the stock pads...

**Obama face**

How was the brake feel in the later stages? Any fade? Cooked brakes?

How did you temps look?

BadCompany235 06-05-2012 08:12 AM

yeah brakes are toast. limped home with the rear drums. they didn't fade badly but they lost initial bite. but they never gave up. didn't do acquisition on temps but never had any overheating. only thing that suffered that i can tell so far was the brakes. but that's an easy fix.

Good stuff guys!

Let me know if you need help on brakes. We have options from top manufacturers. You can see my post elsewhere on this topic. We have race compounds, SS brake lines will likely be done later this week...and the full competition brake system shown below will be coming very soon. You can see details on comparable systems for some other vehicles on our site.,.check out our Lancer Evo application as an example. Focus will be on light weight, durability, and low long-term ownership costs under harsh track conditions. More details to come... :D

Forgot to say to the original poster...we are in Charlotte, NC if you guys are interested in visiting and seeing these parts firsthand.

No doubt. We're always here...come on in!

BadCompany235 06-06-2012 08:31 AM

i could have used some pads monday night for sure. i ended up getting some stock impreza pads from o'reilly's for under $30 yesterday to hold me over and have a set of stoptech street pads on the way. will definitely put on race pads for the next event tho.

BadCompany235 06-17-2012 11:01 AM

stoptechs aren't bad. not track pads for sure but they have good bite and hopefully more endurance. will need some pss tires on this car soon. as is now i out brake the tires. really looking forward to what suspension and brake components come out. will be dropping the car off @ Forged Performance in Marietta, GA for R&D. GTR specialists are interested...

I will try to watch the video when I get home. Mike had actually messaged me just after he drove your car to tell me. Said it was fun.
I did a session at Summit Point Main on Friday, as I was there coaching and had a session free. It was fun, but I was echoing Randy Pobst's comments he made in MotorTrend. Funny thing was that I was hanging out with Randy just after the article came out, but I hadn't read it yet and didn't know he had done the driving. Otherwise I would've talked about it with him! D'oh.

As for pads, if you are going for a dedicated track pad, I would use DTC-60 (HT-10 would also work), all around. If dual-use, and sticking to street tires, you can go HP+. Don't bother with HPS other than for street and autox.

I'm lolling here, cos i did check price for the standard pads for every corner. They are CHEAP! This is truly a affordable sports car what you can drive like you stole it..

:respekt:

BadCompany235 07-03-2012 07:59 AM

yeah i ended up paying 25 and axle for oem replacements from oreillys. the good stuff?? price went up a bit ;)
