TRD Kit fitment

Good day guys,

Im wondering about the fitment of the oem trd kit. Im looking into getting one and i wanna know from guys who have fitted it if its just a bolt on/stick on or do o need to remove the bumpers and stuff to fit it on.

I see there is no DIY for this so if i can get more info, i will do a DIY for the fitment. Anyone here with a TRD kit have out the box photos of the components (front bumper, rear bumper, boot spoiler, skirts) and how it fits onto the car will be helpful?

Also wanna know if i need to cut or drill into the body of my car for the fitment?

Thank you

Hey

You can access all the installation guides here: http://www.trdparts.jp/manual_download.html (google translate is your friend). The PDFs are in Japanese though but the pictures are pretty descriptive.

I am going with the TRD kit next spring, and I've done some research so I can help answer your questions.

Front:
Bumper removal: not necessary
Drilling: optional, two holes in the plastic grille to hold up the front plate area. the 3M holds up fine, but it's safer to drill the holes.
Cutting: none

Sideskirts:
Drilling: necessary for additional screws.
Cutting: none

Rear skirt:
Bumper removal: yes. otherwise it will be a bitch
Drilling: yes, a minor hole for a mount to re-route the backup light wiring
Cutting: yes, black trim near exhausts is widened

Rear spoiler:
trunk removal: not necessary
Drilling: optional, two holes to mount the screws. highly recommend if you don't want it to fall off.
Cutting: not necessary

Thanks for the info @khan and @kbye.

Still looking for out of the box photos if anyone has?
Gonna get my kit after the December Christmas craziness...

I have the TRD Kit,

0 drilling for front sides or rear. It wasn't required and my kit holds on extremely well.

We have the TRD front lip and sides on our FR-S. Installation was very simple and straightforward and everything lined up perfectly. Highly recommend the authentic TRD lip kit for factory fitment and ease of installation. :D

We offer Genuine TRD Parts directly from Japan. You can purchase TRD Aero Parts individual or as a kit. There are also a number of prepainted options from factory, such as white, black and red.

That looks fantastic. Ultramarine is the best.

I thought you had to drill in the rear wheel well for the sideskirts?

Our FR-S with TRD Japan Front Lip and Side Skirts. Factory fit and finish and everything lines up perfectly

Nope. You don't. There's clips included to extend the fender liner inwards (the metal section). Then you just screw them into those clips. What areas are you guys drilling into? As far as I knows, the replica is the only one that requires drilling.

Another thing is that if the drilling is in the front wheels liner, in Canada our cars come with factory mudflaps (which afaik, requires no drilling for you guys), so after the removal of this factory mudflap, i screw into those existing holes.

Here in SA, we get it directly from toyota dealerships.
It comes unpainted and they not do fitment though.
You can also get it at www.trdparts.jp. I think that a replica though and it doesnt come with the clips for fitment.

Cant wait to get the kit and put it on now... cosmetic modifications only... until the warranty runs out.

How does the back look? Did you add some sort of Apron to even out the lines around the car, or does it look fine naked?

I've been thinking of only doing the skirts and front (don't care for the quad exhaust of the TRD rear), but feel like the car might feel visually uneven. Any thoughts?

For the rear, we added the OEM lower diffuser piece (available as a Subaru option/accessory). For the rear bumper (side), we added carbon fiber splitters.

I bought, painted and put on the entire kit...front, rear, sides and spoiler. Fitment was perfect, couldn't have asked for better. All the pieces have tape applied where its needed. Just make sure when painting that they use a matte finish on the black areas. Kit includes stick on masks for the weird shapes on the front splitter area....although my painter was easily able to mask it without using the supplied masks. Every nut, bolt, washer and screw was included.

Front required 2 small holes into the bumper for 2 screws that help hold the front license plate area to the OEM bumper. Not completely necessary, but they do add some strength to that area. No other drilling was necessary as the kit uses existing holes in the wheel wells.

If you put on the rear bumper part, it requires cutting/trimming the OEM black diffuser area on both sides to make room for the larger quad-tip exhaust. Check the instruction sheets. It's not hard, didn't even have to take off the rear bumper.

Truly nicely done parts, I would do all this again in a heartbeat, looks great IMHO!

did you have everything paint matched before they went on? Or can a paint match be done with it already on the car?
