Vote for GT-86 Lego Idea

A friend/owner tipped me on this. Needs votes to make this ugly beast a reality in stores: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/83970

that's a big fucking shift knob

MrAmalto 11-12-2014 12:42 PM

Wow. I'm pretty impressed with the engine bay and interior details. The scale is clearly off on a bunch of stuff (that shifter!) but that can't really be helped given the size of the smallest lego bits.

Tcoat 11-12-2014 01:04 PM

I see they were smart and did the sound tube delete!

Dadhawk 11-12-2014 01:15 PM

Wow. As a funny aside I was in the toy department of my local Wal-Mart just last night and passed through the toy car aisle. My exact thought was "it's really too bad there isn't a Lego version of the 86". But then I figured it would have to be a pretty large size to get decent curves in it, and let the thought pass.

Dadhawk 11-12-2014 01:20 PM

Supporter #90, only need 9,910 more....

Ramster 11-12-2014 01:22 PM

That's actually pretty impressive.

Mr Kirmudget 11-12-2014 04:20 PM

Are those RPF1s? Not bad.

Dadhawk 11-13-2014 04:15 PM

Need to add the dash hump to the passenger side...

Probaly cost as much as the real thing to get all the parts separate!

Nice effort but doesn't look polished enough. I'd want something similar to the Lego mini cooper's level of detail.

I am sure a production version with custom parts would be just as nice as the mini. That is a beautiful job for just using standard parts and random bits for other sets.
Surprised nobody has said they want that intake, exhaust tips, shift lever, etc.!

frs10 11-14-2014 04:50 PM

but can i get a TRD one... i want quad pipes

Sure maybe a RS.1 version but then everybody will rag on you and they won't like the colour, and why would you pay extra, and why isn't it turbo, and blah blah blah!

Unfortunately, that is a very costly way to go about it. When I designed this FJ and 5th gen 4Runner, it probably cost me $30 in parts alone and they are relatively simple minifig scale cars.

You'd be $60 or $70 in on this car unless you had a pretty extensive Lego collection to borrow. I have well over 100k pieces, but I would probably still have to buy some to build his design.

I'd buy this.

Mim 11-16-2014 11:58 PM

Woa I love Lego! I'd totally buy a quality Lego release of our 86 if it were done in a similar way to the recent Mini. Would look awesome on my desk at work :)

Signed up and forwarding this to all the lads in the office to click support too.

ToySub1946 11-17-2014 02:30 AM

Lego model

I'll buy only the turbo model.

I'm not buying another 86 which has no turbo...need that power ! :iono:

VacantSky 11-17-2014 03:48 AM

I love how the tail pipes are dead on. Now when I look at my JDM tips all I'm going to think is "lego "

I'd pay $100 (like I did for the mini) if it was as well done as the MINI. As it sits, it lacks some of the cleanliness that Lego sets usually have.

This is too cool. Supported! For everyone raising concern over the lack of polish, Lego always redesigns the winning models before releasing them as sets.

im sure when lego engineers get their hands on it, it will be just like the mini but better since its an 86 and not a mini :slap:

Oh great I see a whole new Vs. thread developing!
If the Lego FRS had 2 more curved blocks just behind the rectangular blocks, beside the engine, it would kick the Lego Mini's ass on turns because the Mini's curved blocks are two pegs closer to the inside the of flat base plate.

Yea, as mentioned above, they usually tweak before it is actually released. I do think it will be more of a challenge than the mini due to the low sleek shape and fender sexiness of the 86. They are doing a whole line of super cars, though, so maybe they have some tricks up their sleeves.
