AT - shift from 1-2?

anyone else get a strange jerk from the car when shifting from 1 to 2 in manual mode under 4k RPM or is it just me? :iono:

Yes. How many miles do you have on your car? Have you done any spirited driving with it?

Tye300 11-06-2014 12:09 PM

Yes I get that too. I track my car regularly and I noticed the tranny shifts smoother after I change the AT fluid.

Apparently the owners manual says its for 100k and 30k after that which is extremely stupid, someone got a quote to replace the fluid at a Toyota dealer for $265, but your better off replacing it with a non-oem at every 30k with like Redline High Temp ATF, you will never get all the fluid out of course....

Yeah...I hear you. I really wish this car had come with better transmission cooling from the factory. After a couple spirited drives, my trans starting getting rough on the 1 - 2 shift as well. At only 11k on the clock, the viscosity of the fluid per a Blackstone analysis was significantly less than it should be (thus causing the rough shifts). If you want some good reading, check out this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61498

The only way a person can realistically run the factory trans fluid for 60k per the owner's manual is if they're driving Miss Daisy.

I thought the owners manual said 60k?

Happens to me as well.

I always thought it was normal? :iono: I know it doesn't happen in the higher rpms though

I always assumed I was just bad at manual shifting. The auto shifts perfectly smooth in full auto mode. But in manual mode it can be jerky, especially if it's cold. Once it warms up it's a bit smoother. I'll see if they'll change the trans fluid under my lease agreement, but they won't even give me windshield wipers so we'll see haha

frs10 11-13-2014 01:48 PM

so has anyone changed the fluid and shifts are smooth now?

AT can be jerky when cold

I recently had my tranny fluid changed thanks to @Neal@EQtuning and it shifted smoother, however when its cold it does give a little jerk in the lower gears.

miles?
fluids used?

thanks!

BRZPDX 11-16-2014 11:50 AM

It does mine when its cold. I changed mine out about 15k miles ago, but probably needs to be changed again. I do have a tranny cooler, and by reading some posts regarding AT fluid temps, I highly recommend getting one if you want to keep your tranny for a while.

im not even close to half that... :(

CircuitJerk 11-23-2014 09:37 PM

x2 on jerky when cold. Doesn't do it once warm.

Husker BRZ 11-25-2014 12:15 AM

Mine isn't necessarily a rough shift but after I shift from 1st to 2nd I can usually count to 2 or 3 and the car lurches like it wants take off and go. It only does this once I have shifted and I'm off the gas. Don't know if this is the same issue but this doesn't happen consistently. Anyone else experiencing this?

Lunatic 11-25-2014 12:49 AM

Someone mentioned trans coolers. I installed the Mishimoto fan cooled tranny cooler on my automatic. Inline after the stock cooler. It really made a difference. Always stays below 230 degrees on the track now.
