Cut down my 2 color choices to red or hot lava

what looks better in person?, im looking for a head turning sporty color, and i know both will do it, i have seen red frs person, but not hot lava, so how does hot lava look in person. which shows their line the best

Atticus808 11-04-2014 05:16 PM

if i were to choose between the 2 i would choose hot lava

more unique than your typical "red sports car"

i've seen both in person

Lava. More head turning, more sparkle and flake, less likely to fade over time to pink like red does under constant sun. Lighter colors pop the lines more and highlight shadows better for contrast.

that line above the rear wheel = so damn nice

Teseo 11-04-2014 05:20 PM

+1 for hot lava, very cool with sunnyday.
You can flip a coin: heads for hot lava or tails for red

jvincent 11-04-2014 05:24 PM

Hot lava looks great in the sun, so-so on a cloudy day.

It is definitely more distinctive than red. I was torn between hot lava and ultramarine. Seeing the hot lava on a cloudy day sealed the deal for ultramarine.

domtor 11-04-2014 05:26 PM

how does it look on a cloudy day? lol

gramicci101 11-04-2014 05:29 PM

Hot lava. There are plenty of red cars already.

艾洛 11-04-2014 05:30 PM

Hot lava if you want to stand out in the crowd!

I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I think some individuals said that exterior modding is a lot easier with Firestorm to achieve the look you want as red pretty much goes with anything.

MrAnthonyC 11-04-2014 05:31 PM

+1 Firestorm...

They are both great choices imo, but I love how the red exterior really comes together with all of the interior accents. Again..both colors are beautiful on this car, and I will say that i'm sure there are more red cars out there than orange cars. YEAH I SAID ORANGE, SUP LAVAS.

Sometimes lava can look funky..

Go to the dealership, see it for yourself, and decide on how you feel in the moment not on some strangers' opinions on the web. Your taste is your taste, your money is your money.

lantsalot 11-04-2014 05:35 PM

I did not intend to get the hot lava, but it was the only one the dealership still had available (this was when they had first come out and were pretty tough to get ahold of). I will say though, I have very much grown to love this color. I was originally going to just wrap it, but I can't actually bring myself to do that.
It looks very nice in person, and what's even more intriguing is that the color takes on a different personality in low light that in daylight. It's a darker, subtle orange in the evenings/nights.

I think a lot of other cars that come in a similar burnt orange color kind of missed the mark, but this color actually looks very nice. Just beware, you will be very limited in the color choices on your wheels, etc.

I do like the firestorm color, but i've seen much better reds on other cars.

im just planning on changing the wheels to black and tinting the windows, and imo black looks better on orange than it does on red xD

SCharged 11-04-2014 05:40 PM

Agree that the orange looks great in the sun, not so much in other conditions. Almost goes salmon IMHO.. So I would go with red.

You may also want to think about resale.. probably easier to sell a red.

You'll love the car in both colors.

Haeb 11-04-2014 05:43 PM

I've got a Hot Lava as well....and when I walk up to it in a parking lot - day night sunny cloudy, doesnt matter - I cant help but think to myself...damn...thats one sexy ride. My wife who admittedly hates orange cars loves this one...just something about it that pops. That said I've seen one of the blue BRZ's around (is that Ultramarine??) and that one has some serious pop to it also. The black, white, and grey doesnt have the same effect, at least not for me. Havent even seen a red one bombing around yet...so no thoughts for ya there :\

they both looks so dam good lol

Tcoat 11-04-2014 05:58 PM

Go Team Lava!
The Firestorm is nice but is the only non pearl paint and seems to miss out a bit for it.
Right now it is so glumly and cloudy my lava looks brown.
The right light though and WOW!
There is a reason why most of the Toyota advertising uses Lava to promote the sports aspect of the car even though it is the least produced.

Like some other guy said about his lava up there, I look back at my car every. single. day. So fkin sexy..i was washing my car a few days ago and a guy in some newer convertible mercedes was like "DAAAAM look at those lines man, niceeee"..and those kinds of compliments aren't rare.

Firestorm is more "epic" than lava tho. It's science. Plus, look down at the bottom of this thread. Chances are you'll see an advertisement for the scion frs with the firestorm right up front :P

frs10 11-04-2014 06:03 PM

red for sure... if you want tickets

hot lava, still not safe...

go for red... go big or go home

I got passed on the freeway yesterday by a guy in one of those. It really is a good looking car. Grabs the eye for sure. Any thoughts of jealousy were quickly dashed by me remembering...hey...I have an equally eye catching ride ( that was parked at work :\ )!!!! Also my stereo is probably WAY better than his ;) (OEMAudio+)

Texas BRZ 11-04-2014 06:41 PM

It's a toss up, however Hot Lava is more unique and Firestorm is more classic. Both are my top choices for the FR-S.

I'd highly suggest attending a local 86 meet to see both colors in person.

GL.

Ammunition 11-04-2014 06:45 PM

Of the two I would personally go with Hot Lava - I think Firestorm is the only non-metallic paint that these cars come in. On most car I feel like I don't prefer metallic paint, but on these cars I think they look stunning with it, and as you mentioned, I think that sort of paint on these cars help "shows their lines the best". Hot Lava is also the only color unique to the FR-S, so that helps to distinguish it from a BRZ (if that's of any merit to you.)

That's just my opinion though - just make sure to get which one YOU want, and not the one that the majority chooses, etc.

So the moral of the story is, the OP should get Hot Lava and drive around while on fire!

The tinted windows just....I dunno....makes the rest of the car stand out. I may have gone a little too dark with mine.....then again....NAH!!!

calmtigers 11-04-2014 08:46 PM

Go Firestorm, Lava is my least favorite color on the 86.

It's also really hard to make go with other wheel colors/mods

ray7792 11-04-2014 08:55 PM

I'll agree with calmtiger's statement.
Firestorm is very nice looking regardless of the time of day. Hot lava can look kinda blah when its cloudy or anytime at night.

And yea, if you're planning on modding, wheels, skirts, etc. it'll be a lot easier to get a good pair up with firestorm.

Mine are20% and work well for driving but would have liked a little darker for looks. But is was free so I didn't have a say in the matter!

Black goes with everthing!
You are correct with the cloudy days (mine looked like a 1980s K car colour all day today) but at night with the right lights it still rocks and it doesn't matter what colour the car is if there is no light at all.
