271 BRZ's sold in month of May 2012 in US

Hopefully this is not a repost.

Interesting short read. The most important bit for us BRZ owners and future owners is towards the end of article:
"Also in May, Subaru reported initial sales results — 271 units — for the BRZ, a made-in-Japan sports car that is turning some heads."

You bet it's turning heads. Your average Joe thinks the BRZ is a new Porsche

I'm pretty sure I can be easily be in the first 300 to own a BRZ: "Leonidaaaaaas!"

DookDookDGM 06-04-2012 12:41 AM

Mine was #158 off the line, apparently. I like being part of history!

BRZer86 06-04-2012 02:30 AM

Where are they? We may have 10 of them on this forum.

Sportsguy83 06-04-2012 02:45 AM

Astonishing numbers considering I think we don't have 50 in this, I think the most popular BRZ forum.

i think there's significantly more than 10 here.. look on the brz preorder alone and theres way more than 10 and all members here...

interesting though 270 units my guess would have been closer to 400 but <300 :eyebulge:

Wow! That was pretty great news. If there are a lot of 271 BRZ sold in may, it would only mean that most of them love the model.

86design 06-04-2012 05:13 AM

wow thats pretty crazy!

My neighbor, "Is that a new Porsche".

Haha, loved it!

271 is a really low number if you think about it.

50 states * 5 cars each = 250 cars.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that all BRZ owners are on this site or the internet forums at all.

One more thing to note.. Dealers will frequently fudge their sales reporting back to the manufacturer. If it's a customer order, they can mark it sold as soon as it hits the lot.. regardless of when it gets picked up. They will obviously try to report the sold units in May if possible.. that helps overall sales figures and earns them larger allocations through the rest of the summer.

DantKR 06-04-2012 10:52 AM

Except BRZs aren't getting much more allocations until 2013 :(

Kimsey47 06-04-2012 11:30 AM

I'm one of them... Got mine on the 31st!

Not sure about this but my dealer had 4 allocations and each one has been pre-ordered. Salesman told me they would actually be getting an additional allocation to make the total 5.

So if we factor in 6000 cars this year and spread that out over 12 months then they should be 500 a month. Does that mean that there are still 230 automatics (I mean cars) that are still unsold on dealer lots?

Lonewolf 06-04-2012 03:23 PM

Most dealers didn't even get their BRZ's until the last ten days or so of May. So 270 ish over 10 days (give or take) is not bad.

Hehe. :laughabove:

I could've had mine in May, but no one told me the car was ready till the last minute. Running around trying to get insurance and financing in one day was quite frustrating. Well worth it in the end though!

Wish we had number plates at least for the first 1K in the US.

Can we tell by the VIN somehow?

idk, the last 6 digits will show a build number, but I'm not sure if the FRS and BRZ have the same VIN sequence or not

Jayde 06-04-2012 04:01 PM

The vin is the same. There's a character that decides whether it's a BRZ or an FRS.

I'm #635!

I am curious what type of monthly sales Subaru would need for this car to justify long term improvements and continued updates. 271 is not alot of cars although the limited allocation probably have alot to do with it.

Turbowned 06-04-2012 04:08 PM

Was it 6,000 in the U.S. alone or 6,000 world-wide in the first year?

Mitch 06-04-2012 04:57 PM

What I get from this: SCCA will have to give us a class by mid-August.

It didn't go on sale until the middle of the month, and at that only half the country got them in May. The monthly allocation was stated to be around 500 so I'm guessing in June we'll see around 500 sold (or more if they front loaded the allocation).

Also, I thought this was pretty awesome, Scion sales chart shows 86 FR-S's sold in May

Yep that was cool. But did anybody notice the LFA figures?

Have they really only sold 22 Lexus LFA in all of 2012??
