Sony MirrorLink (XAV601BT)

Anyone else waiting the arrival of this bad boy? Its supposed to be out soon. Since the Bespoke and AppRadio 2 have been sort of a let down due to lack of support for more than a few apps, this one shot up on my radar. It has a few built in, but it supposed to mirror anything you have on your phone. Which seems all sorts of bad ass, if it works that well that is. I'm hoping it does, it looks like a really cool system. The Base Stereo is alright, but im hoping this will sweeten the ****pit up a bit.

Looks like Crutchfield has it in stock.

For the price, its definitely more interesting the BeSpoke, particularly because it works with Android. Pretty limited compatibility list though, and no dedicated Nav. I don't like Google NAV, it's just too hard to use compared to a stand-alone Garmin/Magellan/TomTom at least on my Droid X. Nice that it has two USB ports though.

Thanks i'll check it out. I'm actually waiting more for reviews at this point. Cuz Bespoke and AppRadio 2, just dont seem to be the way to go. Although i have no problem with it using the Cellphone to use its Apps, i think that will keep it up to date and give you more flexibility with apps. It's just those two have very limited support, i am hoping that with MirrorLink we will have more apps working just because theyre being mirrored. I'm using an iPhone myself. Fingers Crossed i suppose.

Oh i also think it's more expensive through Crutchfield. Bout 100$ i think.

There's much more info about compatibility here btw. The Crutchfield site made it seem like it was for Nokia Phones only, and come on who still uses Nokias. Well at least not as much in the US anymore.

I posted that a while back. Not much response but I've seen ppl around the forum fairly interested. Looks cool but I always have lots of criticism towards headunits. I'm hoping this changes my mind.

LeavingNormal 06-03-2012 11:03 PM

Yup i do believe you are the one who turned me onto it a few weeks back.

eriktherod 06-03-2012 11:16 PM

I have an AppRadio (first model), and while it is no where near perfect, there is a jailbreak extension (iOS obviously) that pretty much... does just about everything Pioneer SHOULD have. I believe it's called AppRadio Extensions and the 2.0 beta allows you to mirror and it will also relay touches back (interacting with apps).

I really, really like being able to use Waze in my car and am debating the AppRadio 2 for the FR-S. No iPhone compatibility on the MirrorLink?

The online demos suggest that its intended to be safe, so the intent is only to show programs that are setup for mirror link. Its an interesting idea, yet in the short-term there are not many uses. The Sony will be on my list of stereos to look at, but mainly just for the TomTom option.

LeavingNormal 06-04-2012 01:37 AM

Yeah I gathered the same, buuuuut they also demoed the least safe thing about it. Lol they showed the iPhone playing video. Which is usually a no no on the dash from a safety perspective.

Any of these "APP" headunits do DLNA for streaming? It'd be a better option quality wise than BT streaming. Just have an ad-hoc wifi network setup in the car...

LeavingNormal 06-22-2012 06:05 AM

Has anyone gotten one of these yet? They were released recently, and still no reviews.

Pscylo 06-22-2012 06:40 AM

We sure it fits in the car? Crutchfield isn't up to date on the existance of our cars yet. Thinking about picking one up.

It does fit... I just bought and installed mine last week. Its pretty good so far, only prob i would say is the audio quality. I liked the stock radio's audio quality better... but then again im still figuring it all out... will post pictures later.

Here it is...

BTW... I adjusted the audio with the built in EQ and sounds much better... Mids and Highs are amazing... Bass is lacking a bit but can be fixed with a small Sub. ill see if i can post a vid later on.

xxthrillxx 06-25-2012 09:03 PM

wow my bad, i didnt realize how big the image was...

In the pic i was using streaming Pandora from my phone to the HU. Its pretty cool because you can choose your previous stations as well as see the artist, title and album art...

You mind doing a vid review? I don't see much reviews going around.

tripjammer 06-26-2012 11:00 PM

Awesome bro! Do you got a video yet?

LeavingNormal 06-26-2012 11:15 PM

Looks great, do you happen to be using an iPhone? I was wondering if the mirror link was any good, and does the built in stock bluetooth work with it? also you're in my hood, where'd you get it installed at?

Im currently using an Android - HTC ONE S. Havent been able to use the MirrorLink yet... It only supports Nokia Symbian phones at the moment. It is supposed to work well with Android and iPhone sooner than later i hope.

I bought the head unit at Best Buy... but because i dont trust the high school kids installing my stuff, i took it to a guy who charged way less and was super pro. Its right down the street from my house on Inglewood Ave and 138th i think it is... ABC Auto & Sound.

Gonna go back soon and get a small Subwoofer installed.

BTW, are you asking about the OEM microphone (bluetooth) in the car?

LeavingNormal 06-27-2012 12:04 AM

Yeah the oem Bluetooth mic is what I meant. That's cool I think I pass b that audio place every day on my way to work. Might just get it off amazon.

I stumbled upon a link i think i saw on this forum somewhere, where you have to solder some wires into the OEM mic to bypass and make it work with the aftermarket head unit... looks tricky but do-able. Maybe ill give it a go later on.

I just got my OEM USB working today... waiting for the servo cables to do the AUX

***Friendly Note*** if you want to use the OEM USB... Once you have cleared the metal surrounding around the male end of the USB... you have to pull up the metal prongs just a bit so that they can make contact with the OEM USB... was breakin my head for a minute LOL :bonk:

the bluetooth in this thing sucks, I had this unit for about a week, put the mic in several different places couldnt come up with any good spots including the oem place where the road noise didnt drown out your voice. The head unit has some potential but wasnt for me. also the mirror link supposedly will only work with new phones. there few nokia's, and the galaxy s 3 are the only ones it supports

What was involved in the fit in terms of brackets, dash adapters etc.

Looks like a nice unit.

LeavingNormal 07-09-2012 04:59 AM

I wasn't digging the appradio 2 at first but I think I'll be going with that, apparently their jail break lets you use most apps on the touch screen which is what I wanted. Also dash command 2 looks sick.
