buying a frs real soon! cant decide what color to get it,between red, black or white

which of the 3 colors shows its lines the best? and which looks more aggressive/sportier

lastexile1987 10-22-2014 10:34 PM

Black looks the most aggressive IMO. I got red and it shows the lines the best. I know its not scientific proof but whenever a twin passes by in a color except red or white, my fiance never notices or if I point it out, she can't even recognize its a brz. And no she isn't blind lol.

Demandred7 10-22-2014 10:43 PM

Red definitely shows the lines of the car the best. White I find hides them. Black looks awesome when clean, the tricky part is that black rarely looks clean unless you like detailing all of the time.

Texas BRZ 10-22-2014 10:45 PM

@Janmara: You only live once. Firestorm.

What about WRB? :(

Mim 10-22-2014 10:48 PM

Not a big fan of the red as it just doesn't seem rich/vivid enough to me. I'm personally going for a white one myself pretty soon (been a long year waiting).

My take on the white is the colour makes the car look a little larger than it really is, shows the lines and is lovely if you keep it clean. Also stay's looking clean when you add body kits.

Cliu91 10-22-2014 11:30 PM

Red if you want to be different.
Black if you want to look aggressive.
White if you want to look clean.

NWFRS 10-22-2014 11:30 PM

They will ALL look sick if you tint the windows, swap the stock wheels for some black ones and color-match the lug nuts. :-)

After owning my Asphalt FR-S for a year, I've decided that there just isn't a bad color. PT Cruisers look like sh!t in any color. Our cars just kick @ss.

DAEMANO 10-22-2014 11:32 PM

Black - the most upscale and aggressive
Red - the sportiest and least common
White - cleanest and easiest to mod but most common.

funwheeldrive 10-22-2014 11:44 PM

Halo white or Firestorm. Look at them in person and decide.

dentalprodigy 10-22-2014 11:51 PM

Firestorm/red is my vote. Other colors are not vibrant enough and don't make the car stand out as much. Red just screams “look at me !". Every time I walk up to my car in a parking garage, lot, driveway I am glad I took the gamble and went with red. Only thing is be prepared for the extra attention from the public and cops.

I like the white, but the paint is hard to match...
I recommend Ultramarine blue... lol, if not then black

jdd 10-22-2014 11:58 PM

I believe white has a higher re-sale value.

humfrz 10-23-2014 12:50 AM

White.

Why? ...... because mrs humfrz said so .......http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra.../notworthy.gif

Doesn't matter. You need to plastidip it to fit in on the forum.

Kuros 10-23-2014 01:18 AM

dont get black unless you want your car to be dirty 5 minutes after you wash it.

PeterFRS 10-23-2014 03:02 AM

funny because i originally signed the papers on a black '14 FRS.
dealer came back with option of White or Red.
went with Red, figured when will i ever buy another red car?
loving the colour so far, it really stands out im loving the firestorm red.
but like some people say, there really is no bad colour on the frs

Fortis 10-23-2014 05:28 AM

Asphalt :)

Tcoat 10-23-2014 07:41 AM

Well, white is technically all colours, black is no colours and red is a very specific colour.
The only good colour is Lava! (jokes)
As said several times already, there are good points and bad for each, but the car looks great no matter which colour it is painted. I can honestly say I have not yet looked at a picture and thought "oh that looks horrible in that colour"
If you have the cash there is also the option of wrapping it in pretty much any colour you can imagine.

Dadhawk 10-23-2014 07:50 AM

Wait, it comes in colors other than Firestorm?

Obviously I have a bias, but I do think red is the best color on the car in terms of showing off its lines. Also, red never actually looks dirty, it just dulls over time. The downside to red is the primer used is white so when you get paint dings (and you will unless you have protection of some sort) they show up as bright white spots, hard to miss.

To me, Black hides all the lines of the car (flattens it out), although the 5AD and other aero kits look best on black (it hides the ugly bumps and "add on" look of modern aero kits that I don't care for).

White and Silver (and their shades) scream rental or fleet car to me, but that is purely a personal bias from having rented too many cars over the years.

Agree on your thought on the white and silver just because almost every car around now seems to be a variation those colours. Not that they don't look good on the Twins just that they are so common.
The only thought I have with the red is that it is the only non pearl/metallic paint.
The straight colour losses some of the ummmph that the others have in my eye. I get why they didn't do it as red pearl can take on some horrid highlights in the sun. Take a look at a red Mitsubishi if you get the chance and you will see what I mean.
Now having said all that, I would be glad to own any colour of these cars and would probably very quickly think mine was the best colour regardless of what my original thoughts were.

Black with the right rims and all chrome blacked out is, yes!
Kuros picture above is a great example.
Stock, not so much.
But like he said you better love doing detailing.

Whenever I see a lowered black FR-S with wider wheels/tires, it always catches my eye. Black visually shrinks the size of the car, so when lowered on wheels, it looks low and mean.

And yeah my old STI hatch was black and it was a pain to keep clean, but I'm assuming OP knows that. :)

I have never seen one for real, just pictures but am sure I would agree 100%.
If OP didn't know about keeping clean before they sure would after reading this thread.
One of my favorite things about the orange is it can get pretty dirty before it shows much. Not that I actually let it get that dirty (wife complaining about almost doubled water bill last few months) but it can!

cpafford 10-23-2014 09:02 AM

i personally have an addiction to red myself (every car i have owned has been red). Even though i went to the dealer wanting raven ended up with firestorm because firestorm was the only color they had in MT and after test driving and my personal addiction to red I had to have it. Like every one else has said the car looks great in every color except IMO the yellow RS1, its not bad just my least favorite of all the twins.

Hah you're making me wish I bought orange. I've always been partial to that color too.

My white car is perpetually dirty. :brokenheart:

Well Team Lava is always recruiting!
My wife followed me right after detailing one afternoon on a bright sunny day, with the sun at our back.
After 5 minutes she called me, both on hands free and said "damn you I can't see shit (she has a potty mouth sometimes) because of the glare from your car".
Knew right then I had bought the right colour.

Red does this as well. I'm always surprised how dirty it actually was when I wash it. It's almost like getting a new paint job (well except for the paint chips!)

Don't know if this helps the OP make up their mind though.

True true, I'll stop derailing this thread now..

jeffchap 10-23-2014 09:55 AM

I wanted red until I saw it in person. It just looked kinda flat. A slightly darker metallic red like the prototype pictures would have been awesome. They had a black one on the lot, and the metalflake in the paint really looked good in direct sunlight, so I bought it.

It still looks great when it's clean, but never again will I buy another black car. I've owned it only a year and a half, and I bet I've washed it 80 times.

Ultramarine was my first choice, but I couldn't find one with a manual locally. If I had it to do over, I'd probably go with asphalt, since they no longer make Ultramarine.

They still make Ultramarine in the FRS just the Subaru version that they dropped. Was sort of silly having two blues for them anyway.

Don't think we are derailing to much at this point as there are plenty of opinions expressed.
Sort of a subjective, quasi question anyway and colour is completely based on preferences.

MrAnthonyC 10-23-2014 10:41 AM

I am very happy I chose red. I have never had a red car nor really considered red an appealing car color to be honest..I usually lean towards just white or black. When I saw the red in person though I was sold..I am a bit OCD I like to think, and the fact that the interior has the red accents was one of the driving factors for choosing red as well. I know not everyone thinks that way..I remember reading somebody wrote "you dont paint your house outside to match your walls inside" and it kinda made sense, but for me the red exterior just makes everything come together more..makes it feel intentional. If I could match the threading and accents of the interior to what the exterior paint color was...I probably would have went with the blue or lava though.

I figure I will have mine long enough that by the time I retire it the stitching and accents will have faded enough to be a close match to lava!
Didn't even notice the red after about the 3rd day of ownership anyway.

I meant the red stitching and panels.
I would notice the red car instantly and probably drool a little!

To me there is nothing better than asphalt. Am I biased because I have one? YES! Is it a pain to make it look good? YES! But it's not too common and that's what I like. I love how it absorbs the colors around it. It looks sleek and sexy and definitely shows off the lines. You can make it look classy or mean. My favorite asphalt besides mine is @Fancy :coolpics:
