Q300 is a little too quiet

What changes can be made that's legal in California to make meaner sound. Muffler delete the q300? Kinda pointless to ruin a full exhaust system, right? Only thing I can think about getting away with is new headers.

Try a catless front pipe. You'll still have the cat in the header for emissions

Fizz 10-16-2014 06:00 AM

Some guys in here with aftermarket headers are bitching about how loud their exhaust sounds. Perhaps you could arrange a catback swap with one of them?

That's not Cali legal and actually, its not legal in any state. If there is any state where I wouldn't want to risk the legality of removing cats, California is it. OP, I'd try to see if you could swap catbacks with someone who wants a quieter exhaust. My suggestion would be the Perrin 2.5" resonated catback. It's still a fairly quiet exhaust but a tad louder than your Q300.

Does volume increase drastically with catless UEL header? Currently have OFH and want to know if Q300 will be sufficient for sound

I got catless uel headers with my q300. Made it slighly louder but by very little. So little i couldnt hear the boxer rumble. Just this past weekend i installed a high flow cat without the resonator. Now its louder i got the rumble and its amazing. If this is not an option for you then swap the q300 because nothing else works

Not with the q300

I have a catless jdl uel header w/ cstted nameless op/fp and q300 catback and its incredibly loud. Maybe im just unlucky.

Just curious. Is that the 1 piece nameless or 2 piece combo?

Jakeval 10-16-2014 01:50 PM

I'm under warranty right now, you guys think it's ok to put a header in and assume everything will run smoothly

If you get a tune to go with the header then yes, otherwise you'll have a CEL. I know that there is one OFH left in stock right now. Could do that with the OFT.

1 piece, non resonated.

lol.... yeah, no way this would be it.

Q300 is perfect if you're planning to run a catless header. Won't be too loud, but will enhance the rumble generated from having no cat.

A lot of guys have gotten Greddy EVO 3's and Invidia N1's and then found that going catless header makes the car way too loud and obnoxious.

Plus the Q300 retains the stock diffuser shape of the muffler, whilst the twin muffler designs remove that essentially making the rear bar act like a parachute for aerodynamics.

This may seem silly, but for a DD in texas, would my car pass inspection if I had a catted header, but catless front pipe?

It depends on the person doing the inspection but the laws governing the modification of removal of Cats is federal so it should fail the visual inspection in all 50 states. The cat in the front pipe is past the O2 sensor so it should pass an ODB2 test and most likely will pass a sinffer test.

There are plenty of people who run catless and have turned off the MIL through their tune and were able to pass inspection. Its a choice you have to make and be willing to live with the consequences if you get caught. I can't imagine that you'd have to much of a hard time in Texas passing inspection as long as you were not bragging to the inspection people that you were partially or full catless and had a tune to turn off that MIL. But you may fail and when that happens you'll need to replace the factory cat to pass, just to turn around and take it back off after you get your sticker.

Fair enough. My last question then is, are there any differences in terms of power output of a catted front pipe versus a catless?

None to very little compared to a cattless header.
