Considering a used 2013 BRZ
Hello all, I recently posted on the FR-S side for some advice on the price of the FR-S.
I have been considering getting a 2013 car instead of a 2014 one to save some money on the purchase. My initial budget was 25k + tax tag title, but I was not able to find any FR-S models in this price range when it was new and Automatic transmission (yes, I'm going to get an automatic)... While I was able to put the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t base at 24k, and the girlfriend heavily favoring genny, I could not let go of how smooth the drive felt in the FR-S. I've personally never driven the BRZ before, but I'd imagine it is more or less the same right? I've decided if I was going to get toyobaru used, might as well get the BRZ that has nicer interior and a push start. I've been able to find a few at 22k listed, and hopefully I can haggle it down even further. My question is, what is a fair/good price of a BRZ before and after haggling? and how bad is the depreciation rate of this vehicle? Thanks guys |
I got really lucky and bought a used 2013 limited BRZ for US$20900 with a INVIDIA exhaust, amoung other mods I would have done myself eventually. used BRZs are usually good because the previous owner has most likely solved the various issues with the car already (crickets, etc). Cars with mods typically go for less cash because stock is always worth more.
I have seen FRSs used under 20000 miles going for less than 20k in the Los Angeles area. Overall I would definitely choose a used 2013 BRZ for the price/fun ratio without having to deal with all the probkems the original owner had to go through. |
Cool deal. is that the limited with manual transmission you got?

Overall I would definitely choose a used 2013 BRZ for the price/fun ratio without having to deal with all the probkems the original owner had to go through. Ther the same car just badges differently with little differences between them. Yu just pay more for the 'nicer' features on the brz. Great pick up on yur end tho. |
yeah the one I'm looking at is the limited auto with all the spanking features... the windows are already tinted too

I'd go private party on cars like these honestly. Any enthusiast car I kind of want to know a little bit about the prior owner. I'd be less likely to buy a car that was stanced and owned by a 20 year old than a tracked and very well maintained car with more miles from an older owner. With dealership cars you really don't know anything about the previous owners and the dealerships won't care enough to find and disclose any issues that may show up long term (nothing against them, they don't have time to do that). |

also there is no cure for the crickets, if you already can't stand the sound don't bother getting the car. |
Don't buy it. LOL
It seems like the genesis is picked by more consumers that say "uhhh I am not sure what I want, and 200 doesn't sound like much horsepower" The BRZ/FRS are picked more by enthusiasts who say "I want that" 95% of owners I have hung out with agree. Less "gotta race from light to light" More "go away I have turns to concentrate on" |

I still want a sports car, and the FR-S driving experience was so smooth... Honestly I don't really care about HP hahaha |
Great condition, but I'm looking for A/T transmission and looking to pay much less if it is pre-owned. I also want to purchase from a dealer to get the certified ones so I have some warranty.
Thanks though! Quote:

If it helps, I bought my 2013 Limited Dark Gray BRZ w/ 1,860 miles for $22,100 plus tags and tax. Came out to $23,700 OTD. It is super clean, and the only mod on it is a 2.5" Perrin Cat-back Exhaust.

Thanks! What area did you purchase it in? Also what is this cricket noise everyone speaks of? |
Kennesaw, Ga dealership has a low mileage Brz limited with a lip kit in dark grey for 24k. When I talked to them they said they'd do 23k otd. I'd bite, but I have my heart set on WRB or white.

I just sold my 2013 limited brz 6mt with 27k miles for $21k in the Bay Area. Took about a week to sell so price seemed right. Lightly modded ($1500 in parts) hope this helps

Start by looking on this forum's classified section; maybe you'll find a great deal from an owner and bypass the dealership markup!

Is it weird that I wouldn't even consider the Gen Coupe? I just feel like if you're not after the handling of the 86, there are so many more muscle-y cars out there to choose from that will be better than the Genesis. If you're a fan of torque, I'd take a used BMW 1-series over a Gen Coupe any day. There are just so many interesting cars out there (especially in the used market) that you can get for $25k that seem like they'd be more interesting than the Genesis.
I also totally agree with Dave-- if you're going to buy used, go private party. There are really nice cars to be found out there for totally reasonable prices-- you've just got to take your time and find one of them. Go see the car / meet the owner in person if you can. You can learn a lot about the car by meeting the owner and observing how they drive the car. |

Also, I'm not considering a Genesis for its torque, but the other reasons... I don't really care about the HP
I don't see why it gets so much hate from this forum. It's got really nice interior, and sure, while the drive isn't like the FR-S or BRZ, it's fun to drive. I'm getting AT so the gear box doesn't really matter to me and it has a sizable seating area in the back. I also think the car itself is pretty... My main reason in getting a BRZ over Genny is from the MPG and the feel of the drive |
