It's the original Toyota emblem:

It's a modified version of the word toyota in katakana: トヨタ. I don't believe it was ever placed on the exterior of a vehicle, but I know on older Toyotas you can find this logo stamped on parts.

There's a thread in the DIY for baking headlights. It's a good 4-6 hour job depending on paint dry time. Worth it if you have a free afternoon @KyleCross
