FR-S / BRZ Tail as Turn +Backup Module

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuZz7Kih0Ck"]Tail as Turn +Backup LED Module for Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ - YouTube[/ame]

Just released! The new Tail as Turn™ Module PLUS Backup, for the Scion (Toyota) FR-S or Subaru BRZ! This is a unique mod that was 100% designed by Diode Dynamics in-house, and is manufactured by us right here in St. Louis, Missouri. Made in USA!

The Tail as Turn™ modules will make your nice LED tail light flash as the turn signal as well. With a ring of LEDs flashing instead of an incandescent bulb, you'll have a unique, modern look!

Then, since your old turn signals are no longer used, you can easily turn them into functional backup lights! The factory backup lights don't shine very well since they're right next to the ground, but by adding some up in your tail light, you'll drastically increase your visibility.

With the OEM tail light connectors, installation will literally take about 60 seconds, and does not require any wiring at all. I don't think you'll ever find an easier electrical mod! This kit will work with factory or aftermarket tail lights.

The base kit is just $40, which includes a pair of modules with OEM connectors, to convert your LED tail light into the turn signal, with extremely easy installation.

All kits also come with the extra wire and connector to add backup lights where your old turn signals were, but you do need to run LED bulbs, since you're drawing on the factory backup light circuit. At Diode Dynamics, we also offer the highest-quality LED bulbs on the market, backed by a 3-year warranty. For the complete Diode setup, you can add a pair of LEDs to your order, or use any 7440-size white LED.

Your order includes:
(2) Tail as Turn Modules with OEM Plug-and-play Connectors & built-in resistors
(1) Power wire to add backup lights
(1) CF18 turn signal flasher (optional)
(2) Diode Dynamics LED Bulbs (optional, needed to add backup lights)

Post up when you've made your order! Preorder promotion ends October 24th.

We'll offer the preorder promotion til Oct. 24th, which is the latest we expect to start shipping.

--------------------------------------------------

UPDATE TO PRICE AND PREORDER DEAL, OCTOBER 6TH:

We've seen a great response with this product, we we have doubled down on our investment. We'll be making more in our initial production run, and we have purchased some pretty awesome new manufacturing equipment!

Thanks to these improvements, we are lowering the price- The standard price for this mod will now be $30, a full $10 lower than we originally expected. We cannot offer a discount on top of that, but the TAILTURN preorder code will now get you free shipping with your order. Those that have already ordered, we will be refunding your shipping charge if you paid through Paypal, or your credit card transaction will be $5 lower when it goes on your statement.

We'll be sending an email out tonight to all those who have purchased as well. Sorry for the confusion, but we decided this was the best thing to do. When we found out we could lower the price, thanks to the new equipment, we decided to bring the price down for our customers, rather than pocket the extra money. We want as many people as possible to be able to afford our products.

Thanks!
Paul

I think I'm in. Cost of 7440 hurts a little. What is the difference between 7440 and 7443? In video you say you use xp80 7443?

FRSGT86 10-03-2014 01:01 AM

Waiting for the video before committing to buy.

7440 is single-filament, 7443 is dual. Either will work just fine since it's a single-filament socket.

You can use any LEDs, doesn't have to be ours. You can always get just the module now and upgrade your tail lights, then get backup LEDs later. Every kit includes the wiring you need to install the extra backups. You just don't want to use regular bulbs because you'll draw too much power on the backup light circuit. Thanks!

@FRSGT86 video is up.

Any idea how much wattage we can draw from that circuit? I am currently using HID power house max reverse lights and some auxiliary 5 watts LEDs.

You wouldn't want to exceed factory draw by much, and that is 36 watts for the pair of stock backup bulbs.

Standard 7443 bulbs by themselves will draw 50 watts, 40% more than the circuit was designed to handle. So even if you have LEDs in the lower backups, it won't be safe to run standard 7440s as backups. It's your vehicle, but that's just my recommendation. You may not a blow fuse, and it may work fine, but it's just not a good way to do things. We strongly recommend only using LEDs in the new backup lights to avoid any issue.

Yeah I have these in stock backup housing:
http://hidpowerhouse.com/shop/hybrid...sbrztoyota-86/
And these in tag bolts:

Will definitely use LED and most likely yours.

Ah, OK- well, those backup bulbs are not actually going to be drawing much power, they're probably slightly less bright than our middle option there. Any of the LEDs we offer would certainly add light overall. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

DarkestBuddha 10-03-2014 12:01 PM

if i wanted to make the turn signal bulb as a brake light,
what led would i need and what wire would i need to repin/splice

also
if i wanted the turn signal bulb to act the same as the circle LED (on with headlights and bright brake light)
what led would i need and what wire would i need to repin/splice

Yeah, you could easily do either of those things by simply splicing two wires in the module, not too difficult at all. But you'd definitely need to run a red or amber turn signal bulb, as you'll be pulling off the factory tail light power. If you're interested I can explain it further via email or PM. Thanks!

So if i do this, will my LED tail light flash in red or amber during the turn? We need amber turn signals here.

It will flash red, so this mod probably isn't for you. Thanks!

piotrr 10-04-2014 10:52 AM

That's what i thought, looked kinda amber-ish on the video that's why i asked. Oh well. :)

Ornelas66 10-04-2014 12:05 PM

Yesterday I placed an order for XP50 LED lights for my lower back up lights. I also ordered SMD5 for my license plate lights. I am looking to get the more light when I back up and now to convert my brake lights to brake/signal lights. My question is this, if I buy this kit, I should also buy the extra module and I should buy XP80 white lights. Will this exceed the watts and/voltage of my vehicle? Is it bad that I did not get the license plate lights you show in the picture, they were not available, and lastly, I did not get the free shipping discount yesterday

Any reason this wouldn't be compatible with the fourth brake light conversion?

No, a 4th brake light conversion should be simply tapping into the brake light circuit, so it won't have any conflict with this mod.

Actually it'd be a lot better to get this mod first so you can tap the brake wire on the module, not your factory wire.

Thanks!

Even with the brightest LEDs on the market in both the lower and upper backup lights, you'll still be using less power than the factory bulbs. LEDs use WAY less power than standard bulbs.

The license plate bulbs you got will work just fine, they've been on the market for years and are a proven quality bulb. It's just time for us to update things and carry a new bulb, but we still won't have them in stock for a while.

Thanks!

Ornelas66 10-04-2014 10:06 PM

Thanks for the help with the two orders. You guys are wonderful to work with and I cannot wait to install my new lights.

Mechixx 10-05-2014 12:25 PM

Hey there, one question i just thought of with buying this mod.
So since this mod uses the LED lights in the back and needs the hyper flashing module to correct it, do i need to make my front turn signals LED lights as well? I was wondering if installing this hyper flashing module with my stock turn signals up front, if they will go super slow?

The new flasher will work with or without LEDs in front. Everything will always blink at the standard speed with this flasher. It just eliminates hyperblinking. Thanks!

Food for thought ...

For those of us who really do want "plug-n-play" offer an add-on the has the two reverse light connectors and then the pigtail to plug into your existing red wire. That way those of us who really do no like the slice type connectors can avoid them.

Preordered on announcement day!! LOVE the signals and now I can get that 20% tint I've been wanting and still see out the back with more back-up light POWER!!

I also forgot I had some unused points which combined with the coupon code, made this mod dirt cheap! Thanks DD!

Yes, I specifically addressed this in the video- while it would make things very slightly easier, it would add around $15 to the cost of the kit, so we chose not to include them. We may offer it in the future, if we can get the price down, but right now we are focused on bringing as much value for your dollar as possible with this product.

One quick splice is just fine for a non-critical component like this, but you can certainly solder the wire instead if you'd like.

Thanks!
Paul

Really looks like an awesome kit, i was going to get new aftermarket tails, but your stuff has complicated things! Decisions.
