Subaru... SERIOUSLY!?!

They're taking the pi$$ right? I've just got my build slot & the cars estimated delivery date... Jan 10th :mad0260:

Kuros 10-02-2014 02:49 PM

What is the point of this?

stonenewt 10-02-2014 02:49 PM

FRUSTRATION!... I've been waiting for a build slot for almost 1 month after putting down my deposit. Delivery of my BRZ will take longer than my Elise... hell the delivery time of my 120d was in less weeks than it'll take to get my BRZ built, let alone have it shipped to the UK.

Come over to this side of the pond. @HeubergerMotors can help you find one fast.

You can also enjoy LHD and low taxes.

Sounds like normal delivery time for Europe, I ordered mine in April and it arrived last week..

If I was willing to compromise on spec then there are plenty of unsold cars that are on ship or with a production date. I'm not willing to pay for Nav or the Lux spec interior. What irritates me is why doesn't a pre-sold build bump speculative production?

gramicci101 10-02-2014 03:05 PM

Do dealers not have them in stock over there?

Come to the colonies, where BRZs are plentiful and you get issued a colt revolver and a cowboy hat just for walking through customs.

Any tea you might have is confiscated though.

strat61caster 10-02-2014 03:05 PM

3 months to get it built to your specifics doesn't sound so bad, it is after all being shipped 'round the world.

I'd be surprised if there really was a waitlist that long, after all a quick search came up with 10 BRZ's listed online as new on dealership lots and that was just the first website I googled.

stonenewt 10-02-2014 03:06 PM

100-150 BRZs are registered a year in the UK.

Subaru have a great system where you can see every car coming into the UK, be it provisionally sold or unsold. There was not one of the spec I wanted left unsold. Most of the speculative build are SE Lux & I'm not going to pay an extra £1500 for an interior that I'm not keeping.

Cliu91 10-02-2014 03:16 PM

It's okay. You're just pissed right now... but come January when you sit in your brand new car, you're going to forget everything cause you're too busy enjoying your car.

Speed2th 10-02-2014 03:27 PM

I was in London last week for 3 days and I only saw one GT86, zero BRZ

Come to think of it..

when I bought mine, I had a choice:

1) wait for the color/trim I wanted, pay deposit in April pickup end of August.
2) buy the car in front of me, it was a "car show display" vehicle that had some extra nicks. And people have sat in the seat.

So I think your 3-month wait isn' unreasonable.

Or come over anyway. Just don't burn the White House down like you guys did in 1814...

It's not like the Secret Service would do anything to stop him, apparently.

I got lucky. I drove a 13 they were trying to sell, said I wanted a limited 14 in one of three colors, walked behind the dealer to the unwrapped cars, and picked the grey one. I hadn't wanted the trunk liner and protective wrap on the rear bumper that it came with, but I could live with it.

stonenewt 10-02-2014 03:40 PM

I think what's annoying me isn't that it'll be 4 months from deposit to delivery, rather that I can see there will be unsold cars that have not started production are going to get built before & delivered to the UK before my car is built.

A total of 263 BRZs registered in the UK as of July 1st 2014.

That's because the orders for those cars were placed a while ago. Just because a particular person hasn't said they want X car with Y options in Z color doesn't mean the dealer hasn't said that. A person ordering a specific car doesn't jump that queue, they just get slotted in as a new order.

stonenewt 10-02-2014 03:58 PM

'Unsold' cars if not secured by a dealership before arriving in the UK will be put into storage by Subaru UK for immediate supply to a dealer at request. They are speculative builds & have not been requested by a dealership.

extrashaky 10-02-2014 04:21 PM

I placed my order in October of last year. Initially the delivery date was supposed to be in December.

In December the delivery date had been bumped to January.

In January the delivery date had been bumped to February.

Then it showed up two weeks early. The salesman called and said, "It's here!" I was out of town at the time and had to scramble to get back to sign my loan papers.

So three months doesn't sound bad to me, even by US standards. And who knows, it might come early.

The British are not allowed guns in the U.S. Apparently, we are not allowed to defend ourselves, but a hat would be cool.

... really? That sucks. :-(

I can see why they wouldn't want you to have guns though; last time we clashed you guys caused some serious problems for us.

I think I may have found the problem with your delivery date being in January....

Attachment 92370

"As soon as we deliver this tractor to Denmark, we'll be back to pick up your BRZ laddie".

wheelhaus 10-02-2014 06:15 PM

I believe the BRZ production schedule needs to fall in line with other models, so they're not made every single day. But when they do, it's done in batches of BRZ models/colors/trims. In other words, they don't make them in the order of when the orders are placed. So that may be the soonest your color/etc will be made. If you picked a different color, your delivery may be sooner or later.

I'm not 100% certain this is exactly how it works, but from what I've read it seems to be the case.

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 10-02-2014 06:28 PM

Guys it took FIVE days before I could take delivery of my car when I bought it, and I couldn't even get them to give it to me for anything less than $500 over cost!!!

Sorry I had to...

I am not sure you should trust me with a gun anyway! :)

GreenMonster 10-02-2014 07:07 PM

Here in New England, we still don't have any 2015's, and there's no word on when we're getting any. I don't think we can order 2015's even if we wanted to.

Aozora.BRZ 10-04-2014 03:46 PM

I am so glad the series blue came with everything I wanted, and got it the same week. I don't know what I would do if I had to wait so many months like some of you guys.

In any case it is better to wait some time and get exactly what you are looking for. :mad0259:

He's in the UK. Still upset about the events of 1776 apparently. But then again , I would be miserable too if I had to live on that cold and rainy island.

Mine took almost 6 months to be delivered. Order made 2nd of April, delivery made mid of September. Good luck!

There are plenty of unsold BRZs in the UK & there's a slow but steady stream of cars coming into the UK. It's just nothing in the spec I want.

Mr.Impreza 10-05-2014 11:58 AM

When i went to buy a BRZ/86, I went to subaru first because of my 02 bugeye, and they told me the wait time was 3 months and i said, no way haha
So ordered the 86 which i like a little more because i'm a initial d fan and a fan of the past of the ae86.
The one thing that wanted me to get the BRZ over the scion was the Subaru badge. I wanted the car in red either way so can't complain.

Tareim 10-05-2014 02:15 PM

I was hoping to order a BRZ in december, not looking forward to a 3+ month wait after ordering :( as myself like @stonenewt don't care for the fancy seats so would be going for the SE rather than the lux

stonenewt 10-05-2014 03:11 PM

What sabotages my spec is the fact I need an auto - it's a need thanks to a moron who didn't know what a give way sign (or was it a red light, I can't remember) meant :(. Go for an manual & there where two in the UK when I put my deposit down.

Tareim 10-05-2014 03:13 PM

I've test drove an auto, got a manual test drive lined up in December, hopefully there will be an available one to my spec when I can put a deposit down

I was told 14 months between order and delivery and i still paid my deposit.
It arrived after only 8 months and well worth waiting for.

Don't forget that the factory had to wait for the new production cycle. As far I am aware, new production started 1st of July. My order was placed end of March and the car was produced the 2nd of July. It looks there wasn't a very big waiting list. Then it takes 1-2 months for the transportation. I suspect that in the meantime (March-June) the factory was building other models ..

Speaking of specs, the best option in Europe is to buy the bare bones version. It is based on the Japan's BRZ RA (Race Altered) version with a couple of additions. If available, it can be easily recognized by the 16'' wheels. This version has no radio, less sound proofing and in the trunk it doesn't have even a mat. Overall, it is 30-35 kg. lighter than the ordinary spec. Too bad that Subaru Europe is not promoting this version correctly. For example, the name in most of the countries is misleading. In Germany this spec is called "active" which is irrelevant. Of course, I wouldn't recomend this as a daily driver car. As I mentioned, it is even difficult to store things in the trunk. I would say that this spec is just for the purist or the track addicted.

So where do the UK spec SE & SE Lux fit in? Factory optional extras, rather than dealer fit accessories, for the SE is the nav & the auto box. The Lux adds heated leather & alcantara seats. Both cars sit on 17x7j alloys with 215/40R17 tyres.
