What exhaust should I buy?
Hey guys I'm new to this form and purchasing a frs this week I've been looking around at various cat back exhausts and haven't found one that I really like for a reasonable price. I was wondering what you guys recommend I'm looking for the $800- $1000 range with a nice tone to it thanks

2) Search. These forums tend to accumulate knowledge, and so when you have a question do a simple search first. Alot of times, the best answers will be found in old threads that have gone over the topic in detail. If you can't find your answer or are still unclear, then by all means don't be afraid and post your question. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/announcement.php?f=38 |
I've seen this page but was wondering from owners of different exhausts their recommendation.
|
Here, let me search that for you.

I went with a top speed EL header and Perrin 3" catless, resonated exhaust. I love the sound. Take a listen, I'm the #24 black FRS.

That sounds really nice!

Don't be a lazy ass and search yourself.

Time for the Ban Hammer

So this is what the forum has become? Instead of helping someone who is obvious new, your first instinct is to jump them?
Give the guy a break, lest we comb through your posts and ban you for the questions you asked when you were new. In the section of the rules you pasted, it even says that if you: "...can't find your answer or are still unclear, then by all means don't be afraid and post your question." He did exactly that and you flamed him for it. Maybe you should get the banhammer for being a garbage representation of an otherwise friendly and helpful community. So to answer your question my young Padawan, I myself got the Takeda Catback ([ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxupIlfib94"]2013 Scion FR-S Takeda Catback exhaust - YouTube[/ame]) for right around 600, and it has a deep hearty tone. Plus at that price point, that gives you more money for parts! |
Thank you for actually replying with an answer instead of a rude comment its a little different hearing about an exhaust from someone who owns it instead of watching a video in my opinion I've looked up many exhausts and just wanted a second opinion from someone who has one. Im not being lazy i figured I'd ask before i buy an exhaust and see what other people thought. Also i should have put this in the original post I wanted to get an exhaust that wouldn't be too loud once I put in a turbo and other various mods. BTW your exhaust has that tone I'm looking for!

Sorry Kyle, but asking which exhaust is like asking which girl you should bang. Everyone has different taste and bias.
I have the TRD and nothing else and I LOVE the sound of it. I`ve heard it with a UEL header too and it sounds great with that too. I can`t tell you how much I enjoy the sound of it, although some did not like it and some found it droned, but that could of been either their ear hearing different things or a factory default or bad installation. I love it, it`s one of the most expensive yes, but I Youtubed for months listening to all sorts of combinations and the TRD was always the one that sounded the best to me. |
I have 2.5" Perrin catback without resonator. I also have a K&N drop-in filter, not sure if it really makes any difference in the sound.
Anyways, when I first got it, SUPER LOUD. My ears were popping from the super bassy sound that it makes at low revs. I've put about 2k miles on the catback now. The sound has definitely died down. The sound is very tolerable at low revs and with music on, I barely even notice it anymore. It will only get really loud if you are gassing it hard and revving it high. But then when you do that, the intake gets so loud that it starts overtaking the sound of the exhaust starting at around 4k RPM. However that loud intake sound might just be a result of the air filter + clearing out all of the cotton and foam out of the sound tube. As for the sound itself, it kind of reminds me of stock 350z/G35. Not the same sound but kind of reminds me of it sometimes. |
You probably should have searched a bit before posting this, however, that doesn't mean we can't be helpful. So here's my 2 cents:
I was in a similar situation, couldnt find a catback that was within my budget. I really wanted the TRD (not the quad tip, the one with the rounded triangular tips), but it was out of my price range. After a good amount of research, I decided on the Nameless Performance axle-back exhaust, and I am very happy that I did. It sounds beautiful, but isn't too obnoxious. No drone, rasp, anything like that, and it looks beautiful. You don't get quite as much performance-wise as you would if you went with their full front pipe/ overpipe + axle back, but honestly I have been very content with just the axle back (that being said, i will be upgrading the rest with their piping in the future). If you're absolutely set on a catback setup, this may not be the choice for you, but if you're a bit more flexible about it you should definitely look into it. I haven't looked back since I bought it, and I can't see myself ever wanting a different exhaust now that i have it. |

I have the 3'' Perrin catback and its awesome. Good rumble and no drone or raspy sound
|
If you dont plan on doing a full exhaust and just want a catback I recommend the Perrin 2.5 non resonated.
I have it and love it. I get compliments on its sound all the time. If your going to be doing headers and other stuff then get the resonated. |
It depends on your plans for you car. If you aren't going for power and just want some good sound the TRD exhaust was really nice when I owned it. However, you more than likely won't see any performance benefits from that system. The TRD exhaust will not do justice to actual performance or changing your setup to a turbo or supercharger.
The exhaust I am currently running is the Greddy Evo 3. I'm happy with the performance results and overall sound. I prefer a deeper throaty sound verses a loud and high scream lol. Plus, I really like the look with having dual pipes (2.75" diameter). There are many other companies that make great sounding exhaust that will benefit performance factors. As other have stated Perrin is a good exhaust. Full Blown Motorsports also makes an exhaust that will replace the catalytic converter and over-pipe (not just a cat-back). JM motoring has exhaust options as well as other independent vendors. $800-1K is a good range for a high named exhaust system like Greddy and Tanabe). You can still have a great exhaust without having to pay a high price as well. |

Nice tone, loud enough to let people know you are there but not alert every cop for miles and wont make mortal enemies out of your neighbors! Whatever you do get rid of that bloody sound tube (if haven't already) so you can hear what your exhaust is REALLY sounding like. |

I want the tomei 80. It depends on what you are looking for really. I want lightweight and good for FI thats why i made my choice.
|
@ less than 1000 i'd go with a motiv front pipe & a greddy supreme sp exhaust with the -25% deal on greddy's website.

Ya I'm just looking for something to get me through the winter. Once I start my build my buddy is going to weld me up a pretty sweet exhaust
|
Header and a tuner.
|
Sound clips haven't happened yet. I've been waiting on a local shop to have some open dyno time so we can see stock numbers and then results after the catback is installed. Stock dyno will happen tomorrow at lunch and If the lift is free then the Dezod exhaust will go on too :)
The exhaust WILL be on the car no matter what for the SouthEast 86 Meet in Columbia, SC at ProAuto on the 11th. It's killing me not having it on the car yet... Even at cars and coffee everyone that saw it in my trunk was blown away by the quality of the welds and overall product. |
So I looked on the exhaust compilation forum and couldn't find anything on it. I was wondering what anyone's thoughts were on the FT-86 SpeedFactory Daily Rage exhaust system? I'm looking for a new exhaust but I'm uncertain which to settle on. I'd like to do the TRD but at some point in the future, I'm planning on FI. Thoughts?

I got the Dezod Motorsports exhaust on the car Friday afternoon and took the car on a road trip down to Road Atlanta for Petit LeMans the following morning. I'm entirely impressed with it.
The install went without a hitch. Fitment was dead on and there was no struggling to get any boltholes to line up or anything. It fit better than most OEMs in my opinion. Everyone at the shop was also impressed with the fit and finish of the Dezod catback. There is zero drone on the highway. My buddy and I had no problem having a conversation with the cruise set at 74 in the hills of North Georgia. Everyone that has heard the car has been giving me compliments on the sound. They've said it sounds smooth but crisp. I even got a few compliments while driving thru the infield of Road Atlanta this weekend. Cold start isn't horrendously loud or obnoxious either, which is nice. Everyone also loves the look of the tips filling the holes in the bumper nicely. Overall, The Dezod Motorsports catback is a winner. I'm very happy with my purchase. And because I know someone will ask...No, there are no video clips of it on my car. I'm waiting for my buddy to get back into town so we can get a proper video done for you guys so you can hear how awesome it really sounds for yourself. I will also be at the Southeast 86 Mega Meet in Columbia this weekend if anyone wants to hear it in person. |
